It is fitting that Lt Dan narrates this. A great patriot and supporter of the military. Much of my 2000 hrs in the tanker were mundane but every once in a while you got to do something where you really knew you'd made an impact more than just passing needed gas.
It would of have been great to hear from the pilot of the mission that save the F-4 Major Robert Goodman. I am sure if it wasn't for his decision and skills the mission would have never happened.
Though I wasn't a tanker crew member, I did fly with them from time to time. Great bunch of folks that never seemed to get the recognition they deserved!
We were drogue spare sitting at U-Tapao that mornng in 1967. We got to word to launch and prodeed to the Danang vicinity ASAP and relieve Casteel. We did. I was the navigator and I took the most direct route possible. We overflew Cambodia a bit, but that was no big deal. By the time we got on station the show was over. If I recall correclty, Casteel and crew landed at Danang for fuel. He is spot on about refueling non-USAF aircraft being a NO NO. Guess the outcome justified the act.
I really liked the story about the crippled F4. I know that I'd heard that a long time ago and probably thought it was a tale...Awesome stuff. It takes courage and imagination to come up with a solution like that...something Americans are especially good at!

Cold war against Communism and now we deal with Communist China?
Something wrong with our principles.

Great video. I crewed 135's at Ellsworth AFB in the late 80's and enjoyed working on them.
