This child has lived through more tragedy than you can imagine and thru her singing and faith she has gained strength. your amazing. i got teased and tormented at younger school, but i just kept going. and i'm better off for it. just keep going, your so good. and you have the ability to go far. keep up with what your doing, and follow that dream. come out of the hard times stronger and more sure of your self that you went in and just keep going.
I think she's quite good (especially for an 11-year-old), but I think it's riculous that she should earn more respect than any other girl of her age. I mean it's tragic what has happened to her and to her mother, and I honestly feel sorry for children like she, but it's an acknowlegded fact: tears do not create talent.
You are correct-tears do not create talent but a strong desire to stand above those that would push you down can. Carina is now 13 and though at the time of this show I had no other choice than to use the CD for her to sing to, she has since sung in many shows with just background music and done amazing. She has also appeared in her first stage play with a speaking and singing part and was great. Her confidence from her singing has helped her grow into a confident young lady.

I am trying my best, truly I am, for she's grown so much in years and voice. Unfortunately most of her performances don't allow parents to tape but we can buy the DVD of the shows but then they are difficult to upload. She was in our local Talent spotlight singing "Think of me" from Phantom and though she messed up her last verse she muddled thru and no one knew it but us. I think she was overrehearsed but I am trying to upload it so please be patient and thank you for the jolt of kindness.
It's funny but my daughter also sang "Think of Me" last summer and messed up the last verse. But it was at a wedding we were attending in Poland and nobody knew the song (let alone noticed a mistake!!)
She wasn't asking for MORE respect, just what everyone is entitled to. She has publicly performed numerous times in the last 3 years and she is growing in talent (last week on her 14th birthday she performed in the state regional solo competition and scored high), but more importantly, she has grown into a confidant young lady who no longer suffers from poor self esteem and her peers no longer tease her because she is different. Singing was her way of taking back her personal power.
bullys will pick on you because your different. but give it time, because later difference becomes interesting and people care. you gotta keep up with it; YOUR GOOD :)
i've seen wicked and i can hear that that in the backround, the good singing is kerry ellis. you need to sing it with just the backing to show of you voice more the singing just makes you sound rubbish coz ure being compared to kerry.
im a singing coach and i have to tell you to keep your voice steady and pick a song that doesn't strain ure voice to much.
ok i have worked with the cincinnati opera compony and he childrens theater of cincinnati i have been in 20 shows in all and im 12......i can' sing that.that was amazeing

Dear Friends, I am proud to say that Carina was just in her first musical play. She nailed the audition and got 2 parts. A supporting part with lines, the other singing and dancing in the ensemble. When I recieve the dvd, I will try to upload some of her performances for you. She's come a long way for she is now 13. She's done other performances but tech difficulties have prevented me from posting them. Thank you all for the support for it's given her the confidence to strive after her dream.

She's singing along with Idina Menzel on the track. She should have done it alone. It's much easier to sing a difficult song like that when you can match your pitch to another (amazing) voice.
Be careful hun not to damage your voice trying to sing in that range, especially if you're trying to belt theres a risk you'll damage your vocal chords.
Thank you for your good advice. She and I just had a discussion about this today because of the unfortunate news about Jordin Sparks today. She's 13 now and she can really belt a song out, but I now have support in you and others that have commented on that danger to let her know that it can have ramifications if done too much or incorrectly. I think she's quite good (especially for an 11-year-old), but I think it's riculous that she should earn more respect than any other girl of her age. I mean it's tragic what has happened to her and to her mother, and I honestly feel sorry for children like she, but it's an acknowlegded fact: tears do not create talent.

You are correct-tears do not create talent but a strong desire to stand above those that would push you down can. Carina is now 13 and though at the time of this show I had no other choice than to use the CD for her to sing to, she has since sung in many shows with just background music and done amazing. She has also appeared in her first stage play with a speaking and singing part and was great. Her confidence from her singing has helped her grow into a confident young lady.

Yeah, that's definitely true. And I wish her all the best with growing confident and learning more and more about singing! I mean, singing is my passion too and I've been bullied too, so I know what everybody's talking about. And I'm sorry for the way I formulated my comment: I meant, of course, that she should earn just AS MUCH respect as any other girl of her age =)

I am trying my best, truly I am, for she's grown so much in years and voice. Unfortunately most of her performances don't allow parents to tape but we can buy the DVD of the shows but then they are difficult to upload. She was in our local Talent spotlight singing "Think of me" from Phantom and though she messed up her last verse she muddled thru and no one knew it but us. I think she was overrehearsed but I am trying to upload it so please be patient and thank you for the jolt of kindness.

It's funny but my daughter also sang "Think of Me" last summer and messed up the last verse. But it was at a wedding we were attending in Poland and nobody knew the song (let alone noticed a mistake!!)

She wasn't asking for MORE respect, just what everyone is entitled to. She has publicly performed numerous times in the last 3 years and she is growing in talent (last week on her 14th birthday she performed in the state regional solo competition and scored high), but more importantly, she has grown into a confidant young lady who no longer suffers from poor self esteem and her peers no longer tease her because she is different. Singing was her way of taking back her personal power.

i've seen wicked and i can hear that that in the backround, the good singing is kerry ellis. you need to sing it with just the backing to show of you voice more the singing just makes you sound rubbish coz ure being compared to kerry.
im a singing coach and i have to tell you to keep your voice steady and pick a song that doesn't strain ure voice to much.
other than that ure pretty good

ok i have worked with the cincinnati opera compony and he childrens theater of cincinnati i have been in 20 shows in all and im 12......i can' sing that.that was amazeing

i've been in a similar situation like you carina, i've been bullied about my autism and i like thinking of the stage as a second home.and i have been in a musical and i have done a solo. i'm kind of like you in a way, since we've been teased before. there are people like you who have been in the situation you have gone through, so you're not alone! and great job!!

Dear Friends, I am proud to say that Carina was just in her first musical play. She nailed the audition and got 2 parts. A supporting part with lines, the other singing and dancing in the ensemble. When I recieve the dvd, I will try to upload some of her performances for you. She's come a long way for she is now 13. She's done other performances but tech difficulties have prevented me from posting them. Thank you all for the support for it's given her the confidence to strive after her dream.

Carina, you are friggin' AMAZING! Don't let the other morons who make fun of you keep you down. My mom suffered from depression while I was growing up and I got made fun of as well. It'll all work out in the end when you're on Broadway as Elphaba and they're working for minimum wage at some crap McDonald's. YOU ROCK!!!

She's singing along with Idina Menzel on the track. She should have done it alone. It's much easier to sing a difficult song like that when you can match your pitch to another (amazing) voice.

Be careful hun not to damage your voice trying to sing in that range, especially if you're trying to belt theres a risk you'll damage your vocal chords.

Thank you for your good advice. She and I just had a discussion about this today because of the unfortunate news about Jordin Sparks today. She's 13 now and she can really belt a song out, but I now have support in you and others that have commented on that danger to let her know that it can have ramifications if done too much or incorrectly.
