  • Back when AFI was punk

  • Shut Your Mouth is their hardest, most passionate album. That span of time from that, to Sing the Sorrow are my favorite albums, StS included. But SYMOYE is probably my favorite album of all time.

  • Reservoir dogs

  • if you know anything about davey havok, you'll know he's still very into the hardcore/punk scene. just because someone doesn't tie themselves down to one genre of music doesn't mean they're selling out. the dudes are in their late 30s and early 40s, of course they're going to soften their style up a bit. they tried to create their own sound after davey blew out his vocals from singing like this. crying about how they used to sound wont change shit.

  • @Questicles There's that bullshit argument again. Look at bands like Slayer or The Melvins or Sick Of It All. All been going for way longer than AFI have and they're not softening at all.

  • @HoosierMF go then and make your own super heavy band and stay the same through all the time you want

  • Good ol afi

  • ahh back when they were good

  • see why can't they do more stuff like this. i fucking hate afi and i find songs like this that are awesome but make me hate the band more because they changed their music to the COMPLETE AND UTTER SHIT IT IS NOW >:O

  • badass way to start the album

  • Old afi>newer stuff.

  • AFI mature musically? ya right! they smelled money in the pop-emo genre and jumped ship.

  • @rhcp212 well said

  • madd double bass!!!!!

  • @umbora there's no double bass in this song

  • I honestly like this better than the Very Proud of Ya version, although i have to say I like Very Proud of Ya better.

  • I am so posting this video on the Miss Murder video comment box!

  • This is the shite!!!!

  • bands grow and change, it´s natural, likes and ways of perceiving things keep changing as years pass, so obviously you can´t make the same music you made 15 years earlier and it also gets boring, do you seriously wanna hear a record that sounds like it´s predecessor?

  • @fruittymonstah Doesn't have to sound like it's predecessor, just has to stay true to their sound. Although its really subjective because some bands sound good with different sounds, however I feel like most bands that change their sound change for the worse. AFI is one of those bands.

  • fuck... the drums don't sound like your typical hardcore band

  • @Therojo Yes, they do, what do you mean?

  • what could possibly go wrong? you could all go mainstream and gay. literally gay. not just stupid. actually homosexual. at least davey doesn't look like a woman anymore.

  • Why AFI.... Why..... WHY DID YOU CHANGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE -drops to my knees and goes on for a good hour-

  • It's sad that people think afi's first album was sing the sorrow.

  • man im fucking tired of seeing comments on here about AFI sucking now and that this was better. fuck the bull shit! i love AFI no matter what style of music they play or how they look. thats what makes AFi, AFI! damn it! and if you cant handle that then you shouldn't listen to them.

  • @milkit81 . If you say what makes AFI is the fact that you love them no matter what style of music they play or how they look, and people who can't handle that shouldn't listen to them, then that means you're saying they aren't a band defined by a particular genre or image- but they are. I can't think of an artist or band who isn't. And really, "no matter what style of music they play or how they look?" What if they started wearing tight neon pants and playing jazz fusion? You'd still love them?

  • One of the greatest songs ever.

  • i love how you can never get sick of afi. because every album they have has a different sound. afi for life.

  • wow... i thought their new stuff was decent, but AFI used to be punk?? whoa i need to hear more! i love punk

  • You could hear them getting darker and more gothic on every album back then. For me their peak was the three albums Shut your mouth and open your eyes, Black Sails in the sunset, and Art of Drowning. They sounded like no other punk band at the time. Really dark, melodic hardcore. After that all the danger left them and I could never get into it.

  • AFI was wayy different back then compared to now new or old I like all AFI tho <3333

  • i miss this </3

  • honestly, I like new AFI more then old AFI, IMO whatever they do is good.

  • AFI and all it's band members, promoters, and managers clearly all took the BLUE PILL.

  • very very very very very very very very very very punk, sorry all you answr-that-and-stay-fashionable-ophiles but AFI's horror punk days were AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @helloieatchicken AFI was never "horror punk". That term alone is reserved for the Misfits, and only the Misfits(the original old ones).

Davey douchebag Havok was a fan so decided to pretend he came up with the idea of horror punk, and called his band that.

They however, will never ever ever ever compare to a fraction of the Misfits(old), even the shitty live recordings on a shitty drunken night.

  • @staphinfection so you don't like AFI?

  • @staphinfection "They however, will never ever ever ever compare to a fraction of the Misfits(old), even the shitty live recordings on a shitty drunken night."

Do you honestly think the old Misfits songs are better than the new AFI? That's funny, because when I listen to the old Misfits I hear plain, dull/simple punk music with uninspiring lyrics and a vocalist who can't hit the notes properly.

Oh well, your opinion is of course as valid as my own, I just think it's interesting :)

  • This is my fav AFI song. I wish they still sounded like this.

  • I was a huge fan when AFI were a underground punk band early 90's first 2 albums very good.. everything else total crap. I cant listen to their Emo ass now a days. I saw them at Koo's art cafe in Satan Ana like 96 or so. Saw many good old school punk band play there.

  • Whats with all the haters? I love AFI's new shit and their old shit. It's both awesome. You guys just don't understand! Lol. Oh my god........

  • holy shit

  • who in the picture is havok? i cant tell...

  • @ThroughLidlessEye second from left

  • It's a pity they don't play this live often. Ah well, I got to see them play at Stubbs in Austin about 8 months ago and they were still badass. Davey can still scream like he does on Sing the Sorrow and sing fast like he does on this, so whoever said previously that Davey couldn't sing like this anymore was an idiot. They did ny-quil during their encore and fucking kicked ass. Despite what others say, I look forward to them conquering another genre of music like they seem to do with every album.

  • @DaveOfLayne thye play nyquil when i saw them, only fucking good song they played all the rest were bullshit sellout songs

  • Hey man every band changes their style. Its just who the are now, they definitely are NOT pussy's and for everyone's info, Davey is NOT gay, hes been dating the same girl for like the past eight years

  • @Sooner0724 No. Every band doesn't change their style

  • They used to be pretty awesome, but now they're a mix of a bit part misfits and the rest parts shit.

  • true fans would love all of AFI's music even if they change........

  • @oracle1775 You're an idiot. So you're saying that you'll love the band even if they play music that you hate?

  • @bobokk im not saying that "idiot".I like all the music that they made and besides it doesnt matter what they're music is, what matters is that their still making music. if they didnt change genres then they would run outta ideas for songs and would of started to fail years ago.

  • @oracle1775 You're obviously not a music fan. Only a poser would say that

  • i fukin love afi

brings back old forgotten memories of hope

  • Def like the Very Proud of Ya version better.

  • i like most of there stuff although this is better, and i respect straight edge butSilhouetteBLKO people like u that go around advertising there edge are plain bad and are just posers

  • i LOVE & MISS old AFI. =( it was my favorite.

  • Wouldn't a "real" AFI fan like, respect, and be supportive of their new direction? Ive been an AFI fan since I was 13, and through all their changes they are amazing. While this stuff is great, but so is the stuff from Crash Love. I can put every AFI CD on a playlist and listen all the way through knowing that this band is my favorite band, and there wouldn't be ONE song I would skip or dis. Old AFI and new AFI are simply amazing.

  • @LolItsADaniel: new AFI doesnt compare to what they use to be.. MTV RUINED AFI

  • Holy shit

how does a good punk band turn into a bunch of pussies

no offence to people who like their current music but this is weird knowing that this is afi

  • @marcushaselden agree wit u man

  • @marcushaselden NAH ...this is a band called Asking For It or Anthems for Insubordinates who after a long time of pussying out created a new band called A Fire Inside :) love this punk stuff by them :)

  • @marcushaselden I had the exact same reaction when I heard this.

  • @marcushaselden everything after art of drowning was not so hot STS was ehhhhh it was ok

  • @marcushaselden well i happen to like all of there music

  • @marcushaselden its the money dude!!!! idk how old you are but growing up for me AFI was the shit but now they're like emo rock bullshit!!!! but yeah it is wierd!

  • @marcushaselden man first album i listened last 1 i did ahah

when i was a kid lol

fuck i got this when it came out...

    so old ahah

then i heard they were gay lol and stopped listneing it ahah

  • @marcushaselden u said it brother! u fckin agree man!

  • @marcushaselden i know, i used to hate them with a passion, then my friend showed me this album and its good from start to finish, wtf happened?

  • @marcushaselden definitely have to agree with you there, when I got this album, I was all "holy shit, wtf?!?!?!?!?" status to see how they go from this to something more like Medicate or whatever else they got out xD

  • @marcushaselden I know, man, plus, i think their "transformation" was the most shocking of all bands i know that have turned into something different, that's just bizarre

  • @marcushaselden People change their styles. I used to play almost entirely punk stuff but now I play indie rock mostly. Hardcore and punk are still the genres I listen to the most but they just aren't as fun for me to play anymore.

People change and with them their music changes.

  • @maraudingchimpanzee You are not saying anything people haven't heard 1000 times. It does NOT change the fact that their music is pussy garbage now.

  • @flabbyballsack Okay. I agree. I just listened to Miss Murder. The fact that this band could fall so far is disgraceful.

  • @marcushaselden if you listen to each album in order, it makes sense. all hallow's ep is still punk, but it's a lot closer to their current sound. then the art of drowning came out which was a lot more melodic, listen to days of the phoenix, which naturally lead into the sound on sing the sorrow, which naturally lead into the sound on decemberunderground. but it really is jarring listening to early afi then new afi

  • god they were so much better back then.

  • @Gabrieloftw i know right?

  • This is the best AFI before they went weird

  • Yep, such a shame. Oh well, they are not "that" bad now.

  • This isnt the afi thats sings Miss Murder is?

  • same ones before they lost their edge

  • god damn they sound nothing or look alike

  • @iBangRainbows it is

  • @iBangRainbows I'm afraid so, my son. This is a great example of what happens when you're... SCALPED BY POP!

  • Yes, this is the same band when they were actually GOOD.

Now please do the real AFI fans a favor and get out.

  • eh so wat they change that happens u cant stop it and they are still gud just different

  • yeah, they used to be a decent punk band.

  • old fav

  • Does anybody know if the original Wingnut Records release of this album was released on CD format?

  • it was.. but the cd is even more rare than the vinyl...

  • wow....what the fuck happened to them???

  • They went mainstream

  • well wth is mainstream then? what people like? bc this sucks

  • they played misfits songs!

    wtf happened to them

  • An Hero: you should all look into it..

  • AFI USE TO be good they suck fuckin balls now fuckin sell outs

  • sing the sorrow is awesome, but you need to off yourself immediately. gtfo douchebag

  • @locustreign92 CONVERGE

  • EMO!!! You have to be one of those emo kids that can't tell good music cause everthing after sing the sorrow was bullshit!

  • no way. they were a great punk band i dont know what happened to them.

  • So basically everything after Sing The Sorrow and before Crash Love sucks, right?

    :)

  • at raikirilketani.

    fail.

but, you are right, AFI is always gonna be good. i love ATASF~

  • new afi sucks compared to this i just started listen to afi

  • @codyz1112594 I have been listening to AFI for almost 12 years and seeing what they have become is sooooo disappointing.

  • guys davey was 17 or 18 when he did this as he grew up his music started getting more seriouse and meaningful i agree this is amazing and i wish they wuld go back to this but there new stuf is good listen to the words and push his apperance aside cause the new shit is pure poetry and amazing good luck people dising them but there good. enuf said

  • i hate when people say that shit.. "they grew up and matured" how the fuck would you really know.. do you know them personally..? doubtful.. its not a maturing factor.. its shit. simple. they changed for money.. sucks too

  • yes the lyrics might be more mature in their new album's songs, but the sound of their new music is still crap.

  • Suck my cock new fans but this is the real AFI not the new gay ass shit. CMON I FUCKIN DARE U ALL THE FLAG THIS BUT I SPEAK THE TRUTH!

  • dude, if you listen to their new stuff versus their old stuff, you cant see the similarity at all. what happened to them??? this is so much better...

  • someones sexual preference really changed the bands direction

  • lol thats true, took him that long to figure it out?

  • i guess so man its sad cause they use to be one of my favorite bands and now i'm embarrassed to say i even listen to them cause someone is going to mention how they love miss murder

  • This is one of my fave songs ever it got me into AFI....when AFI were actually good...

  • O boy what the fuck happend to these guys? there fuckin gay bitches now

  • I ask myself that as well.

  • I think we all do

  • Rigth what's happend with they? =T look it now, he paint him eyes blue o.ó wtf?

  • Geoff and Adam made this band great

  • he did stay real he cant sing like that anymore cause he had surgery on his throught ass holes learn ur afi

  • Why?

  • fucking sell outs, they shoulda stayed real.

  • I take it youve never been in the work force. I would rather get a paycheck playing music I absolutly hated then go out there and do the shitty 9 to 5

  • Uhm, you're fuckin' gay. Like the new AFI.

  • What ever happened to this AFI!!!!!!!!

  • they rock AFI for life

  • they did have another bassist but i think hunter is great

  • my solidarity now only comes in PAIRS

  • his voice is really high!!! back then

  • i ,love this song the drums are so fast!!!!!!afi the best 15 years ago!!!!!!

  • I swear I love the hardcore punk AFI.....I mean their new stuff is okay but I prefer this way MORE! this was before jade joined the band though, back when nick13 was in it I think

  • short and sw... well they're short

  • They should have kept their old look.

  • this is a wonderful album

  • afi kick ass

  • They did.. now not so much..

  • oh shut the f*****ck up!

  • they were a great punk band, and HAD an amazing bassist.

    Then cameth the emo years.

  • @GutrotGrimtoof the current bassist is awesome :D

  • @GutrotGrimtoof lol Davey wort most of there songs before they came popular and some songs that didn't fit there hard core stuff so he put them on the side and came up with cds for them
