You can also buy a Mod Podge brand sealer (comes in spray form) that will let you hand wash, but it should not be used on the side of the plate you eat off of.
It looks like you used the matte finish mod podge, but i am not sure. So, do you use the matte finish mod podge or the glossy finish mod podge or any of the other ones??
I made these years ago--I also use a very fine sandpaper on the back after the fabric was all dry--then outside or a ventilated area spray the back with polyurethane spray. It makes the plate more washable--still no dishwasher. I also use a cool whip container or margarine tub to help hold the plate. I also used fabrics to match a room and hanger the plates with plate hangers. For example, my Mom had a sunflower in her kitchen and I used sunflower fabric.
this is a GREAT idea!!! you could do this with plates to hang on the wall for decoration!! OHHH...I had another idea for this...you could do holiday plates for all year round for really cheap! You can just go to the dollar store and get the plates and then to the discount section of your local fabric store. It would be great. Thanks
I loved this video. I do the same thing with plain plastic or metal switchplate covers. I chosse a fabric that goes with the decor of the room and cover the switchplate with Mod Podge and I have a custom switchplate. No more boring switchplates!
@crskirk You can wash off the top but you won't want to immerse it or put it in the dishwasher. Unless you want to remove the fabric and start over!! haha!
I DID IT! It was so much fun. We are having a placesetting challange at 2 of the guilds I belong to Christmas parties. And this was my inspiration. Thanks.
Thankyou for a great idea! Makes me want to run down to my good will store and see if they have clear plates! Is Mod Podge similar to PVA glue? Can't wait to try it.
Thank you for once again for making a wonderful informative video. Love your ideas, the techniques, patterns. Please continue to come out with more videos.
I just LOVE, LOVE your videos. It gives me confidence that I can do so many projects. Now if I could just have about 3 months to stay in my house and use
Excellent! Consider getting clear plates from Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any second-hand store. I get dozens of clear plates from these stores. Usually 50 cents.
I just imagined using iron-on transfer photo fabric on a plate :0) How wonderful would that be for the grandparents!!! No more picture frame worries :0)
I forgot to mention, "brayers" can be nice to smooth out the fabric after applying to a box or other flat surfaces. They are the hard rubber rollers with a handle sold in craft stores, "speedball" is a familiar brand name. They use these for printmaking. Have fun with your fabrics. Happy Thanksgiving!
I have done decoupage with my grandmother since childhood. There are so many things you can decoupage with fabric...boxes, "photo boxes", trays (think either wooden ones, or cardboard brown ones @ crafts stores). Just walk through the unfinished section of any craft store to see what you can decorate. I like fabric more than paper, as the quality of the designs are so nice. They aren't that hard to wrap as they are square (straight). Thanks Jenny for the great video to keep the craft going!

sharadtriyama 11 months ago 3
@sharadtriyama the technique/type of glue is called modge podge, but that specific brand of glue is Mod Podge.

I have done this and the plates all stick together and even to the counter top. What have I done wrong?

Hi Jenny.
I LOVE this plate idea. Can you do this with photo transfer paper? This would be great for a child's picture.
I LOVE your videos! keep up the good work.
