where is this theres some nice solid cars there. up in northern michigan where we do it its hard to find a car thats big and solid. the big cars are nice but ive always done better with mid to late 80s front wheel drives. our derbys are run what you brung so if you have a 95 dodge neon your gonna run with full size wagons and 70s cars. and alot of times the the neon will win.

ford ltd's stink my cousins bf has ran 2 of them and lasted like 2mins in each heat crown vics are nice cars but i would say that 70's Chevy Malibu's are front end solid cars the trunks are small but do not fold up or down just straight in if using crown vics its best to notch the middle of trunk so it fold up and in

For anyone interested in doing a demo derby,

Crown Vics/LTD's are AMAZING.

I just ran a 94 Crown Vic (set up for stock, but ran it with modifieds),

won in my heat, and placed in the finals.

The only advice I would give is to tie the rear frame together via 9wire.

Then again, I prefer fuel injected to carb cars.

Oh, and to those arguing about it below, some dude

ran a 71 Chevelle with no cancer or damage in a derby I was in.

I killed it quite fast.

It's funny how all the drivers come out and do some donuts, but all the '80s model cars just do these pathetically weak circles. It's tragic how watered down cars became after the '70s were over.

The older cars obviously had more work put into them with more experienced drivers 9 inch rearends geared just right good running engines etc. But yeah 77 on for GM, 79 on for ford and Chrysler the cars took a sad decline in being derby worth although they are still competitors and even win derbies against old iron. Especially the newer fords.

I hate seeing people smash up awesome old cars. They're irreplaceable. I'd much rather watch them smash up a bunch of old Escorts (AMERICAN ones, not the cool English ones) and Neons and Camrys and stuff. That way, I can watch shit getting trashed without wanting to cry for the poor car.

@justforever96 it's better than people just sending them to the crushers. You would be surprised of the cars sent right to the crushers. If there were more people that wouldn't send their cars straight to the crushers there would be a lot more cars. A lot of the older derby cars are lucky to have floor boards rusted out beyond repair. Same with trunks and frames even. Thus patching all of that up. Cash for clunkers a lot of nice cars were destroyed in that even though they just went back to 84

@CoachWagner09 Oh, I totally agree with you on the crushers. This is definatly preferable to that, since they are at least getting used for something. But don't they end up there after the race anyway? So it's not that much better. You theoretically COULD fix ANY car, no matter how rusted out it is. I wish you could buy decently restored cars for cheap, but oh well. It's way to expensive to save a car that is gone past a certain point.
