@MrTuxilo estoy completamente informada, para tu informacion durante la formacion de dentistas (que dura 7 años tal como una carrera medica) se nos enseña los pro y los contra de usar aleaciones de amalgama, es claro que si uno usa metales directamente la corrosion y toxicidad son inminentes, sin embargo la amalgama tiene una longevidad ideal para un material odontologico, se usa en ciertos casos especificos, no es como que los dentistas usen la amalgama en todos los pacientes!

As a patient, would you prefer to have repeated re-filling of a composite cavity (bc when placed on your posterior teeth a white filling is really prone to easy fracture) that would possibly end in a root canal, post, cap and crown and end up costing you in the long run +$1200 (if you are lucky really...)?!?!

No, you want to preserve your tooth as long as you can, that is why as an educated person you would choose a filling that has been proven to last anywhere up to 30 yrs if done properly.

kinito....composite still doesn't last as long as amalgam. physically it just isn't possible and will never be possible..why? because amalgam is composed of metals such as zinc, silver, tin, while composite is composed of silica, like glass... metal vs. glass.... metal wins.n cassie, they pile on a bunch because when you condense hard, it pushes the mercury layer to the top...and you want to carve off the rich mercury layer in order that there is less mercury in the filling itself.

Dude, amalgams have been used for over 150 years, and the most reliable formula has been used since the 1970's. Yes, it doesn't look so good compared to composites, but they will last a very long time. (Mine have lasted for over thirty years.) Composites look nice, yes, but they cost more and last half as long. If you want longevity, amalgams are the way to go.
