I totally understand your confusion and share your sentiment. I think that video she's replying to and the N word is going to be confusing because the way Americans act as opposed to the other side of the world is different. As an American I cannot speak on what white british girls say to black british girls and I can't comment on how black brits view the N word since from my knowledge it originated here between the American ethnicities.

OK, well some people forget that there is a difference between the words 'n*gger' and 'n*gga'. The one ending in er is the degrading term used to insult a black person, whereas the one ending in 'a' is the sort African American version meaning 'brother' or 'good friend'.
And PLEASE remember that not all black people say this. I am Black British and it is an offensive term anywhere you go!
But tbh both words should not be used between ALL ethnic groups. Hope I've cleared things up :)

I agree with her when she says she doesnt understand why black people use the word between each other - it's such an AMERICAN thing - I'm black and british and when ANYONE says the work it kinda makes me cringe - it's just so unecessary and I really dont appreciate that particular aspect of American social norms being exported around the world - it's not 're-claiming' a word - it just seems completely uncecessary.

The reason white people shouldn't say the word is because that is what white people referred to black people as during slavery times. Black people now call eachother it because it can't really be classed as racist as they are black themselves. Its just a term they use. However, I stick to not calling anyone a nigger/nigga because to me, it still defines lower class race.

I'll come at this from 2 perspectives. As a black man & a child of the 70's most of us from that time period find the word offensive. Some people say they use the word to "make it ours" & still others say it doesn't have the power it used to have because 'everybody' says it now. I disagree with BOTH of these premises. I not only find it offensive when non blacks use the word, I find it offensive when BLACKS use the word and none of my friends use it around me.

I'm african and don't use that word and the people that i've heard use that word are white people, and was meant to be mean. And there is a big difference between "the ni**er"and a nigga... not saying that its ok to say either.

You don't see Mexican's calling each other "Beanas" instead of "Beaner's" or white people calling each other "Cracka's" instead of "Crakers", since the "er" gives it a negative connotation. African americans started using the word to take the sting away fro it they started using it in terms of a friend or what not . If a white person say it its offensive bc the way it was originally used by white people. Kind of like some ppl bestfriend can call them a bitch if someone else does its offensive.
