If they want the vintage sag of the tube rectifier they should use a tube rectifier for this amp, otherwise it is never going to sound the same is it, I have a vintage vibrochamp and these new champ xd amps sound nothing like it to be truthful, it has the nice clean and all, but that low end sag just is not their, I wish they would just make a ri of the vibrochamp rather than add digital effects as it just makes the signal suck, I think some like effects but others dont
@Zackr27 tubes sound better though and that is a plain fact, no solid state amp is every going to get the warmth of a tube amp and it is never going to have the touch sensitive feel of a tube amp either, a tube amp comes alive when you change your touch and it is much more of a touch feel kind of deal, were as a solid state amp has none of that depth about it, they still sound good, but they don't make the player feel as alive like a tube amp can, play a solid state amp then a vintage twin
I love this guy ... he's all nonchalant and he's like shooting flames with his guitar ..cheapo gear and ..he's like no ego...sorta like a mechanic telling you stuff he rules
is the Vibro XD considered a hybrid? I've read that only the Super XD is hybrid. I'm a bit confused. Maybe the DSP and the amp simulations circuit act before the pre amp valve. Am I missing something ??
@rogml Yes, I believe the amp modeling circuitry also serves as the preamplifier. This is sent to the 12ax7 which is the output tube driver. The ax7 is receiving the digitally modified signal, but it is still sent through class A single ended tube circuitry. I replaced my 6v6 with a JJ electronics and my 12ax7 with a mullard tube. So you can definitely still influence the overall sound of this amp by replacing tubes, speakers, etc in addition to the effects provided by amp modeling.
does this amp still sound good turned down? i need good cleans, which im sure it does, but i need to to sound good with gain turned down. since im in the barracks, i cant get too loud. and im sure its good for blues AND classic rock.
I assume you mean the XD models, as a Vibro Champ and Super Champ do have a few differences. The Vibro Champ XD and Super Champ XD though are pretty much the same in my books. Aside from the 10 watt difference, the VC XD has a smaller 8" 4 ohm speaker, the Super Champ has a 10" 8 ohm. The Super Champ also has a straightforward clean channel, which I believe is pure tube, but I've heard everything on that one haha. The tones might be slightly altered due to speaker size, both are great
@JustusFriedolin 5w would be better for a bedroom or recording. You can crank it up in an apartment without it getting too loud. 15w better for gigging for sure. But if i am gigging i want at least a deluxe reverb or twin reverb.
fantastic demo, i bought this amp just because of this demo. literally finished watching it and went straight to guitar center's website and ordered one.
secondly, you are a fantastic player. really great stuff, i wish i could see your hands better so i could see what your doing exactly.
I have a Fender Supersonic (60w) amp that I play through when I am with a drummer, but this XD is great for bedroom practice. It sounds awesome ; and is very versatile.
In comparison to the VOX VT series, these amps smoke 'em. They have more mids / low end and the cleans are harmonic / sparkly ... buy one. Fender nailed the tone with this one and they're totally worth the $200 for a 5w, $300 for a 15w. I have the 5w and can't play over a drummer, but u might be able to with the 15.
@ragingLIAM Yup I even use it for jazz. Just a heads up to everyone that reads this though, you can't use this amp with a drummer. Not loud enough for a whole band. But I still love it, great tone(s).
haha amazing... the first clean tone could just as well be a 2000 dollar boutique amp :) had this amp for a while, but didn't have enough experience to praise it enough... Really the best 5 watt amp out there, esp on voice number 4. took pedals like anyhting :) will buy one again for practice :) for reference, I have been through really anything, and have settled on a vibrolux for live use.. this is close at much lower volume :)
Dude thats not the best review for a fender amp ...... its the best review i`ve ever seen. Awesome playing (good amp by the way - just bought one). Every video is worth its time. Thanks for pos(t)ing ;)
Would I be crazy to say you can better buy this amp instead of a tubescreamer/blues pedal even though its a few 100dollars more especially if you dont want more watts...
Awesome demo man. Thinking of getting this, but the only thing holding me back is the lack of a headphone jack... Does it sound good on really low volume?
@bluesclaudio056 O.K.....I just came back. Cool is relative, right? I am an old dude and I think it is cool. Your mileage may vary. But, it is loud enough for my wife to hear in the yard, but not obnoxious. You don't have to crank it way up to get it going, either. For me, it is the best of all worlds without having to spend a ton of money on a ton of gear. Hope this helps! Go try one out in the store, if you can.
hey people someone know if it's possible to connect a footswitch for the channel to this amp ? cause I want to buy it but I need to connect a footswitch
Great demo, shows what some practice will do. This amp is an absolute dream for beginners as you've demonstrated it can produce whatever sound you'd be after. Thanks
thats a total of $400.00 worth of gear... Just proves people spend to much time worrying about gear and not enough time practicing!!!!! Good job brother great Demo
Jesus, the tones are amazing in this little beauty. And that's just a $200 Ibanez? Holy schmokes.....I think I want one of these amps for non-gigging/bedroom playing! Way more fun than my Randall!
i just got this amp yesterday. i plugged the cable for the speaker into my Marshall cabinet 4X12(JCM 800 LEAD-1960) and sound is outstanding! more defined... Perfect for my apartment. I will keep this combination forever. Cool thing is that it is so easy to plug the combo speaker back for night time playing. The cleans are way more colorful than my 100 watt Marshall Valvestate head that was previously plugged into the cab. I LOVE this Vibro! Go TUBE!!!
I believe this is the best XD review I've seen. Fender should hire you. Great playing and commentary!
How well does the simulated tube rectifier sag simulate when you turn the volume down on your guitar? On a real tube amp that sag disappears pretty quickly. Does it still do that on the XD?
Also, does the breakup and compression increase appropriately when the volume is turned up?
Agree with BornAgain4him -- I want one of these amps now.
@1984acl if fender hires him, we won't be able to listen how $200 non-fender could sound so good. instead we'll see like a relic or custom shop strat that cost 15 times more than one shown in the vid :(
@gjdud12 yea...i spent so much on my american guitars...and I knew what Ibanez sounded like...but like most Americans..I shop by price tag...if it costs more...IT MUST be better!!!??!!???

what do think...
I can ONLY afford one amp under $300. In your opinion what is the best / better sounding tube amp clean tone wise to get?
Does the Champ 600 sound better?
I'm a recording artist so would be ONLY using the amp to record with a mic in front of it / inside a baffle soundproof case, anyways.
Tone quality onto tape is imperative.
