  • Release the kraken!

  • I bet it can't run Pong on max settings though.

  • I bet half the guys here go to videos of old computers just to make fun of them and feel better about their own computers.

  • So no anti static bands used. Hmmm danger!!!

  • @FreePizza007 that pad thing under the mobo is antistatic not mention the keep these rooms in near perfect humidty and temps to keep down esd

  • Can I just buy one of those racks? I'd be set for the next 30 years...

  • Did anyone else think that those processors looked a bit like Intels? :p

  • @mike123asd

They use theese supercomputers for virtualy testing nuclear stuff ( launches decompistion ect. )

  • what are these computers used for? why would they need such a powerful computer?

  • @mike123asd actually i cannot tell you exactly what those supercomputers are used for. I'm not that professional. Just ask ur self, whenever you post a video on youtube, where will it go?.

  • But can it run Crysis?

  • @arcade90909 at 180 fps

  • @arcade90909 no

  • Wohooo :o, there is a lamborgini standing to the left of the man

  • Thanks for showing us you job :D I like it !!

  • 48 CORES!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @kicksilvermetal The new bulldozer fx servers have 16 cores each cpu and 8 sockets, so 128 cores

  • Antistatic precautions?

  • @gekizai That lab is desmagnetized already i think.

  • i wish my heatsinks came off that easy, i cring every time i take a gpu cooler off

  • Dell Laptop FTW! :)

  • So thats how asians are made

  • Imagine how many porn movies i could watch at once with this bad boy!

  • This computer makes my laptop look like a calculator........

  • @MrFiggman Not even as fast as a calculator in comparison! lol.

  • I think this place is near my house. They Crack encyption algorithms.

  • moving station is smart speak for moving something 2 feet

  • Maybe, JUST maybe it can run crysis

  • One word,Minecraft.

  • nice!! now can i have the quad-core ones?

  • Gimme one of those old opterons?

  • This guy is not an engineer he is a technician, engineers don't do this mindless work.

  • @melnick1985

    what mindless about this guy?

  • lol im studying MCSA and MCSE any chance of a job ?

  • Supercomputer can perform perfectly at Antarctica, Alaska, Greenland, Arctic, North Canada and North Russia.

  • he has nice job

  • they should be able to play BF3 now

  • ok play Starcraft 2 on max settings or play crysis 2 :P

  • @FriezaReturns00001 play both at the same time

  • Need that screwdriver.

  • look at all those processors!!!

  • where can i get that MotherBoard???

  • so basically this video is to show you how this is exactly like upgrading a normal computer

  • Thats amazing.

  • Can You donate some cpus for me D:

  • can i have my 45 fps on cod now?

  • I wish I had his job! :)

  • OMFG WHO THE FU*K USES 8 HEX CORES AT THE SAME TIME THIS IS GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY CRISIS ON 50 "100 monitors at the same time JUST YYYYYY!?!?!?!?

  • @GTBenergy wow u people just don't get it. These systems are not designed to play games.

They develop real time models of the human body, outer-space, complex math calculations etc. and btw, crysis cannot utilize more than 4 cores

  • @Revanchist8525 Crysis 2 can utilize 12 cores in theory. 6 Physical cores and 12 digital cores, it's called "hyper-threading".

  • This is why AMD works so well in the server space. These same people will repeat this same simple process to upgrade their systems from 6x8 to 8x8 / 12x8 / 16x8 with Bulldozer module-based CPUs later this year.

    Try that with Intel....

  • will it blend?

  • @edilloc Question is "Will it explode"?

  • @edilloc haha that is the question!

  • @edilloc lord i hope so. now i can have six core smoothies in the morning

  • guy on video really GAY!

  • is there a gtx 480 running in the background ?

  • @machielste1 no just an Xbox 360

  • Comment removed

  • those processors he's putting in there can be had for the low low price of $3000..................each!

  • Send the old ones to me :)

  • Oh gosh if I could do this everyday, I'll be a happy man

  • @saik0pod Same here man..

  • A neckbeards dream :'D Forever alone...

  • I love the fact that Cray is still around. It is kind of sad though that pretty much everything is now either Intel or AMD. No more MIPS, Alpha, or custom Vector CPUs. Kind of a monolithic world. I guess there is PPC on the high end IBM boxes and GPUs / FPGAs. Thanks for the video!

  • D'oh! BIOS update may be required!

  • I want your job!

  • WOW! I want your job! Lol!

  • i want to apply job... :D can u tech me...

  • WTF, he is not wearing anti static gloves?

  • @niKobayle is that bad

  • @niKobayle

    cuz he have no shoes

  • Comment removed

  • hummm cray 8 socket mobo :D

  • dream job

  • 2:08 - Fail :D

  • i glad im not a computer scientist o and how much calculations per second can each of those processors do

  • what is his job title ?

  • Awesome video. I want this job

  • 2:00 "it applies the same amount of heatsinks to each chip"

don't you mean cooling paste, guy?

  • @aavindraa I think he is simplifying it; he means it makes the heat syncs evenly remove heat from the processors is my understanding.

  • i only have sempron.. :(

  • how about multiboxing on it?

  • RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Thevirus1234 I scrolled down just to see the comments... yours was what I was looking for. !!!!

  • Opteron fails, Get intel Xeon 7500 its 12 cores, haha just eat opteron 6 cores

  • @quangluu96 6 cores?, opteron its 12 cores long time ago

  • Increible O.O

  • i have p4 with 1gb ram :D

  • ok give my your process if dont need it

  • I have a simple Core 2 Duo processor on my computer :(...

  • What's up with the crysis shit? Of course this freaking beast can play crysis. hell i think crysis will play with it instead

  • Impressive, but can it run Crysis?

  • @tanzfete Lol No it wouldnt run Crysis. It will shit Crysis out with a note saying, "Give me a f&*ckin challenge will ya, not this school buy shit!"

  • Just wait till they upgrade those to the new Bobcat architechture.... 16 cores a piece, 128 cores per board, 3072 cores per cabinet. THAT would just be amazing.

  • @TaylorCourage I'm pretty sure they'll upgrade to Bulldozer..

  • That's a lot of CPUs there on the table...

  • I wish i worked there...pay me $20 an hour doing what i like to do

  • @saik0pod anyone would get bored after a couple a days of that. even bill gates.

  • They should dish out those old processors for cheap

  • But can it run crysis?

  • I wonder if CRAY would give me one if I gave them some gold coins and 3 gold bricks. If the economic collapse effects CRAY and they lose billions, then maybe they will give me some motherboards for a extremely reduced price...LOL.

  • Imagine playing Doom on that!

  • Bare Hands?

  • dat muthaboard...fffff

  • nice

  • I want one! How much for a board with no processors, memory, ect. How much for JUST the board?

  • Imagine doing this everyday!! How fun! Best job in the world? Maybe, maybe not.

  • This CPU update the guy just did enabled Kraken to answer to the Ultimate Question of Life the Universe and Everything!

Ok, now let's play tetris on it!

  • @AlexandreNegrao haha awesome! thumbs up!

  • @AlexandreNegrao I thought the answer to Life the Universe and Everything ummm was 42 =/

  • HOW MUCH DOES THIS DUDE GET PAID? THAT LOOKS FUKIN FUN AND SWEET AS HELLZ!

  • 8 CPUs on a single board...mind blowing(at least for me)

  • i need one of those and a tear 1 fiberoptic connection to the internet.

  • Where is gpu XD ?!?

  • will this make me run AVA?

  • Seems it's easier than most PC :/

  • nice upgrade

now they can play crysis on max settings at a decent frame rate

  • Still not 60 fps, not until we can harness the power of Chuck Norris in a super computer.

  • @chunchuck2000

Lol, this is what I was thinking when I saw the vid hahaha.

  • @chunchuck2000 ahahahhaha

  • @chunchuck2000 ..and Brink, if they don't run ATI...

  • nice

  • I'm looking for a chemical cheaper than liquid nitrogen that can keep a unit cold, any ideas?

  • @VanHollam tried water?

  • I have one of thoughts for far cry 2

  • So easy to upgrade, unlike Intel that like to add one pin per week to their CPU designs, ensuring that nothing is ever compatible with anything else.

  • why do they throw away the old CPUs? is electricity REALLY that expensive?

and couldnt this just be done by a robot for 1/2 the cost?

  • @monoham1 THEY DON'T THROW THE OLD ONES, THEY GO BACK TO THE FACTORY WHERE THEY RE USE IT AGAIN

  • @monoham1 it could easily be done by a robot, but it is just too simple for a worker to do it, why would they spend all that time building a robot to do this when the can get over a thousand of these done in the same time?

  • @TheSCSB That, and they don't change out the processors very often..

  • The programmer looks like a microchip in circuit debugger, version 2 or 3 cant really figure out, what kind of firmware do this PIC run ? power regulation ? programable clock signals ?

  • OMG AN dell laptop is that an intel platform ?

  • the boards would be custom designed. the real magic is not in the cpu but in the data transfer between processing nodes. realize that that system will work a problem with an extremely large dataset, that will be distributed across the nodes. Then they will collect that data and integrate it somehow(algorithm dependent). all with MPI or map reduce function calls.

  • EASY UPGRADE WAS EASY. THESE ARE SOME HAPPY TECHS.

The way AMD hangs onto their socket designs ensures that customers return to buy faster processors for their existing boards and setups.

  • Wow, so they don't need to upgrade the motherboard or the chip-sets. I heard its really easy to upgrade with AMD, but i had no idea it was this easy!

  • i want one of that "old" opterons :D

  • Why aren't they watercooled? Isn't that the fastest supercomputer in the world? They could push it even further with watercooling.

  • @ub3r1337pwn4g3 Supercomputers don't get their performance from marginally higher clock speeds, but from massive parallellization. Running stable is far more important than an extra 200 MHz in core speed.

  • @Tigaernach equally as important iis the ammount of electricity per overall performance... an extra 2 cores per chip must really add up after 100 000 chips...

  • @ub3r1337pwn4g3 i know! i found myself thinking of the chips as cells in a brain here.. then i started thinking if it was a brain theres no way the cooling would be that size compared to the cells...

then again, the less electricity the better, and they dont need to worry about durability

  • server mobo, common to have multiple chips per board (could be tyan). However, not designed for gaming use.. so games aren't actually going to run faster on them.

  • This guy's voice makes me cringe :P

  • in these labs probably i don't even have enough money to buy just the thermal paste... what a nice linux workstation with one of them.. XD

  • I'd like to play mw2 with that xD

  • what kind of pc is that 8 Processors ..,.....?

  • simply insane 8 processor per board

  • 8 way mobo cool.

  • its amazing he has such a hi position and should know exactly what hes talking about, but he clearly calls thermal compound....... heatsinks, more than once.and even heatsink compound.

  • My dad works for a company with these sort of thing. He brought me to office once and I was like "Aren't those like $5000?" He was like "Yeah... want one?"

and then I JIZZED IN MY PANTS

  • @NoneImparticular Damn I wish I your dad was my dad :(.

  • @NoneImparticular

those "sort of things" actually cost ~200$, idiot. And how can you jizz your pants since none of the software you use can handle hexa-cores

  • @marduk505 dude if his dad can get him a processor or 2 i think he could get the software on a fucking stick ;)))

  • @marduk505 There's a good amount of software that can handle 6 cores. There are dynamically scalable programs as well, that can handle as many cores as you throw at it.

  • slow computer bro

  • wow...

  • litt usikker

  • rem @ ecute byte

  • can it play crysis ???

  • No. :D

  • @bigbad1000do7a No, it runs Linux.

  • Amazing stuff.....

  • I think thats what they do when they program the "operating parameters "

  • what's that used for?

  • Heavy number crunching simulations.

  • Cray - A place I would love to work.

  • Ahh this is nice stuff man thx for posting!

  • The IBM Roadrunner should upgrade there AMD processors, i think they are running dual core 2.** GHz right now alongside IBM Cell processors

  • Comment removed

  • oh my god 0_0

  • AMD wants to grow up to be like Intel

  • @MrMakavellii AMD FTW!

  • @MrMakavellii Intel wants RISC, but people are dependent on x86 binaries.

  • i got it already (2 amd opteron quad core) and i made a gaming rig with it. That thing is very fast and my framerate is high (9500 gt) on crysis.

  • Fail, opterons will blow for gaming.

  • @NateN34 it don't xD so yeah it blow performance xD pretty nice framrate for a 9500gt i got the same performance as a i7 ;) so yeah it blow

  • Why would you use opterons for gaming, and also only use a NVIDIA CARD WITH AMD? get dual 5970s :)

  • think how faster i can download my porn
