I had the flower power imac back in 2001. 16 gigs of dedicated video memory, 40 gig harddrive, 500 mghz cpu and 256 megs of ram. That was shit back then! Fucking awesome. I could play quake like a mofo. Damn. I even had the the Harmon Kardon isub. That bitch had bass that would melt your face. I still have the isub but I trashed the flower power imac. Good times!

Got myself one aswell as someone handed out his early 2001 model. Otherwise the specs on that are identical to this (well excluding your hdd upgrade), but I think the graphics processor on the late 2001 models has 16MB of memory? Too bad, might have been able to run Warcraft III.

Btw I hate the 15" CRT monitor in these! I've been thinking of replacing it with a 15" TFT panel, but on the other hand I'd hate to ruin the authenticity of this by modifying.

Second of all, the iMac G3 was the computer that saved Apple from bankruptcy, it is also the computer that introduced USB devices to the computer industry so that we aren't using SCSI cables today instead of USB 3.0 devices. Thirdly, if these are "piece of crap computers", then why are you watching this video?

@Archongold i said it to that guy because he was thinking of buying one now! these are super ancient computers and they can barley go on youtube. i have one in my room which i believe is from 1998.

@deadguy718 You more than likely have a tray loader model from 1999 (when they were introduced). Those barely have any uses left in them as the PAV board always tends to die on it. The iMac I have is an upgraded Slot loader which has many uses, with 1Gb of ram in it, I was able to watch youtube with only a little bit of jerkiness.

@technology2012 For software, if you have 512mbs + of ram, then run Mac OS X tiger, if you have less, run Mac OS X Panther. as for normal applications, pretty much the normal iLife 06 suite works well with it.

As for tips, I can not stress this enough, make sure your iMac is on a stable surface, you dont want it falling and breaking the cathode ray tube display or the beautiful case. Also, if you are going to take apart the machine, take your time when opening it.

@monreaux123 If you are not willing to use an airport card, then look for a wireless card (USB) that uses the broadcom chip. as long as you use a wireless card with the broadcom chip, it will be recognized as an airport card.

its actually its the video processor that only has 16mb's of vram which causes the imac to run slowly on youtube. Sometimes youtube can work just install camino web browser.

@praedcher The OS that it is running also affects it aswell, Panther runs the best on PPC macs that support it, I experimented with Panther and my iMac could play youtube fine using Camino and running Panther.

No problem, I only tried youtube running on panther for about 2 minutes literally, It turns out that later when I dumped 1Gb of RAM into it, and a new HDD, it ran youtube fine running tiger using Safari.
