  • Land has been redistributed to over 350,000 families. Or as the anti Mugabe crowd like to lie, '5,000 friends and cronies of Mugabe'.

President Mugabe is a hero of African Liberation. He is up against the trillionair banking dynasties that are even taking down Greece and parts of Europe.

And that includes through the media, like Mugabe And The White African (The Economist), or The Interpreter (from Hollywood, with Nicole Kidman, directed by Sydney Pollack).

  • Painted a Devil by devils.

May be he is not a Saint , I see South African blacks with no homes. No land no future . But I think He did the right thing, land reform is oK. By all means.

  • strange to say but this speech was made in 2008 and today in 2011, Robert Mugabe has only given land to his croonies and himself and not the average Zimbabwean...he talks a gud one but the fact is he is as gready as the colonial powers he claims to resent.

  • @nabonkhosi

None of what you have said is correct. There are around 350,000 families who have received under both Willing Buyer, Willing Seller, and Fast Track land reform. Therefore, the claim that only 'friends and cronies of Mugabe' received land, is a slur to delegitimize the land reform process. It are the 'new farmers' who are the engine behind the rebound in agriculture today.

  • @nabonkhosi

Also, this speech was not in 2008, but in 2000, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church.

And the reason the speech sounds good, is because it is true.

  • Did he say 12 million acres? WOW, that's a lot of land.

  • @TruthFan no he said hectares which is a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more then 12 million acres.

  • @TruthFan 12 million hectares is like 30 million acres

  • "We shall take the land and pay no compensation!" Brilliant

  • BLACK POWER!!!!

  • What is the crowd who claims mugabe was not elected democratically trying to prove? Hu Jin Tao, Putin and his predecesor, Saudi crown princes, kuwait princes, etc. none are elected and they are our allies. The economy of zimbabwe went bad when the usa put a credit freeze on zimbabwe. Member how the credit freeze affected america in the housing collapse. America is the richest country, what do you think the same does to a 3rd world country?

@tigerone, exactly, zimbabwe is a rural country.

  • @scaramoucheblue

" What is the crowd who claims mugabe was not elected democratically trying to prove? "

They are planters who want their estates back, and diamond miners who want to secure their huge concessions, both in Zimbabwe and the DRC, Angola, South Africa, Botswana, etc.

The people are being robbed of their natural resources, that is what all these 'wars' are about.

  • when was this ???

  • @gary11181

    " when was this ??? "

This was at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, 8 September 2000.

  • Landreform started in 2000, and the economy did not collapse. It only collapsed in 2002, when the economic sanctions in the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001 put the government on a credit freeze in 2002. 2002 is the year the 2001 surplus ($322mn) turned into a deficit ($-18mn). 2002 is the first year tobacco exports decreased. 2002 is the currency fell more than it had in the 6 years before.

And that was an act of sabotage from the Bush Administration.

  • Hes a great man!! I feel tears..

  • You know the media has created a situation where you can no longer even state an obvious fact like that, because it is immediately construed as supporting all the lies that have been told about Zimbabwe.

This is what the ZANU-PF did:

    1) Deliver political independence in 1980

    2) Democracy - one man one vote, where no democracy existed before

    3) Universal education, leading to the second lowest illiteracy rate on the African continent

    4) Effective land redistribution

  • @tigerone1970 Mugabe, opposed the general election in 2008 and staying in power uses the police force to terrorize anyone who is against him. He arrested goverment officials through false accusations to stop them getting into office.

What he gave Zimbabwe was a dictator under the guise of a democracy. A man blocking the needed change for Zimbabwe and clinging to power through fear.

  • @renvaar

    Renvaar,

What I think you are trying to say is that there was a runoff after the for the 2006 general elections. They are held every 5 years, and Zimbabwe has not missed an election since independence in 1980.

Morgan Tsvangirai received 50.3% of the vote, which is just short of the 51.0% (50 plus 1) which would have avoided a runoff election. That's the law. MT decided not to contest, which is not President Mugabe's fault.

  • I am sick and tired of this 'dictator' and 'tyrant' crap, especially from the crowd that swore there would be no democracy in Rhodesia, 'not in a thousand years' - in the words of Ian Smith, who illegally broke away from the Commonwealth, to avoid democracy and the sharing of power and wealth in what is now Zimbabwe.

In the mean time, Smith's heirs have done everything they could to destroy Zimbabwe, including helping draft the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001...

  • ... which put the government and economy of Zimbabwe on a credit freeze, after it had been made dependent on the IMF and World Bank during the 1990s first. Debt is used as a tool to force compliance to political and economic objectives.

Which in the case of Africa is the privatisation of it's raw materials. The President has refused, and that is why the world has even heard of Zimbabwe.

  • That is why Zimbabwe had to be brought down, through economic sanctions, a decade long propaganda campaign, financial and technical support for the political opposition (which is represented in parliament, very odd for a 'dictatorship'), and financial and technical support for the MDC and NGOs. All coming from the US and UK.

  • @tigerone1970 During the 2008 presidential election, with the first round taking place on the 29th of march, Tsvangirai took 48% while Mugabe took 43%. Tsvangirai pulled out during the second round due to violence against his supporters. MDC said they won by 50.3 to against Mugabe's 43.8, but the final count said it was 48 to 43, hence the second round.

  • @renvaar When Mugabe first lost he immediately starting arresting anyone he thought would get in the way. The police force (which he controls) is accused of violence against his opposition, as well as the zanu-pf. He is also accused of vote rigging because he ordered 9 million ballot papers when only 5.9 million people are elligible to vote.

I don't give a shit when it was held or the statistics. The point I was making is that while the zanu-pf is run by a Tyrant...

  • @renvaar

Ok. " 9 million ballot papers when only 5.9 million people are elligible to vote. " There is an enormous amount of propaganda going on against Zimbabwe, so the key is to always have references to information. Why would anyone order 9 million ballots, where would they order them, and who delivered them? Even if he had 25% (1.47mn) of the vote and the MDC 75% (4.4mn), he wouldn't need more than 2 mn extra ballots.

  • The truth is that incumbent parties in Africa are very popular in the rural areas, which is where most people live. Over 1 milion people (including all relatives) have directly and indirectly benefited from land reform. Getting the land back secures a lot of votes.

Also, the MDC has made an alliance with the White Farmers, many of which served in the Rhodesian forces. And unlike what the Rhodesians say, Africans are not clammoring for a return to white rule. They are unreformed in outlook.

  • Hail Mugabe!
