  • Wait... let us clarify something... at 37 seconds of the video, you say the driver of that van is suppose to stop... however, I read that if there is an island that is the length of an LRV, a vehicle may proceed and pass at 10 MPH. Cars only need to stop if there is no island or an island isn't long enough to allow safe unloading of passengers.

  • this is a stupid law just like the stupid cops in this video

  • California is too strict on issues like this. More likely that you would get rear ended by stopping than hit grandma by not. But if California says to do something, you better do it or they are going to fine you two week's pay!

  • just bullshit to raise revenue

  • Looks like people are wanting to go to Teaway on 23/24th and Irving lol

  • all it is , is a money grab

  • Chinaman tells cop, you a motherfluca

  • At least some of these places have a island, try Taraval and 19th, no island...

  • I see an issue.. not with the drivers but a decent place for the LRV to stop. Kinda silly to stop in the middle of the street. How safe is that?

  • @chechnya Maybe they should move the tracks closer to the curb?

  • ha looks like all the cars stopped ahd asian drivers

  • @MaddDogg81 Its in sunset district in SF. Pretty much only Chinese people live there now.

  • @Brigada510 I know what you mean. I lvie in BC and in Vancouver there's so many asians there

  • It's just like stopping at the back of a school bus then? Same rules?

  • wow an asian who can't drive? no way

  • Give. Me. a. Break! Why the hell build in a standing island then?! You mean cars the lane between the island and the sidewalk is off-limits when there is anyone on that island? That's bulldookie.

  • haha most violators are FOBs

  • That's one way to get the City out of debt. Deploy SFPD on more sting operations. Instead of fighting crime in donut shops and robbing people of thier burritos.

  • At 0:35 and 1:28, the island is long enough to handle passengers getting on and off the train. They should NOT be getting a ticket! Stan, please READ THE ENTIRE Code 21756 again. In part (c), it says "Whenever any trolley coach or bus has stopped at a safety zone to receive or discharge passengers, a vehicle may proceed past such trolley coach or bus at a speed not greater than 10 miles per hour." The miniman was NOT speeding. I hope the SFPD isn't work ordering the MTA with this crap.

  • @puffpuffin1 Sorry Puffin 1 the concrete island was not not considered a safety zone because there were not any safety barriers to protect the pedestrian ...... and all the sinage instructed drivers not to pass the LRV unlike the designated safety zones that have a 10MPH speed limit sign posted....... I did not pick the location the SFPD picked that location I just shot the video.

  • @TVman1981 I can't find what the legal definition is of a "safety zone", but it sure is confusing. That long island and the sign does make it confusing about what a driver is suppose to do. Something needs to be done to fix this confusion...

  • @puffpuffin1 doesnt matter. if the train stops and unloads and pick up passengers anywhere, you must stop or else face a ticket. I bet you 100 % that at least once the train will stop at a non safety zone to pick up or drop off a passenger.

  • It would be nice if you could do a 90sec segment on how to drive around/with these muni trains in general. I never know if I should be getting out of their lanes or what

  • Please do a sting on Muni too.. for the graffiti vandalism.

  • @ustfu And rude Muni passengers too .

  • That neighborhood looks like you'd stop alot of Hondas and Acuras.

  • There really needs to be neon green or neon orange signs at all the "safety" islands where streetcars pick up/drop off passengers telling drivers to STOP for non-moving streetcars.

That, or the school-bus-style flip out blinking STOP!! signs.

  • This is BULL$HIT. how is the center island not a place of safety per CVC 21756?

  • GO SFPD!!

  • The message sfpd are trying to send is: don't use local roads cause its retarded. Nice tactic to stop drivers and give tickets: using a bumper sticker.

  • @757K STATE LAW!!!

  • Yes I wish the drivers care about my safety.

  • @TVman1981 The other day I was driving alongside the middle of one of these streetcars, and it stopped and the doors opened. For a split-second I didn't know what to do, as I was along side it, and they are just so long. Its easy to figure out to stop if you are coming up from behind, but when you are alongside and they suddenly stop and open the doors its not so easy. I ended up pulling up to the stop sign and waiting for the doors to close. Would that have been a ticket?

  • @carlspanoghe Yes

  • @TVman1981 Ridiculous.

  • @TVman1981 Your not suppose to stop in an intersection. its a double wammy. How do you justify your do gooder self ritchous bullshit video that clearly is the fault of the city & road comission. Your just a apple polisher with no REAL justification. No blinking lights, Muni butted up to the intersection. This is CORUPTION to ticket the people. And your an ass kisser & a moron to label people do badders & how BAD people are for making conscious decissions on the fly. Go jerk off to your bible

  • @757K California Motor Vehicle Code 21756 states that the driver of a car that is overtaking a stopped streetcar or trolley must stop their car at a safe distance behind the trolley and wait for all passengers to board and exit the trolley or bus before driving again. You cannot pass a trolley, streetcar or bus unless there is a designated safety zone for you to use. State Law...

  • I've had my driver's license for ten years now.

No moving violations or parking tickets (so far.)

I had no idea this was a law, I'd probadly get a ticket if I were driving on that street.

  • Newer school buses have those retractable light up stop signs attached to their back ends...Why can't MUNI Metro cars have those?

  • @KendrickSF Most of these people looked like they used the Monkey See Monkey Do excuse. Putting a lit sign will only stop a few of these cars and not stop the problem.

  • @KendrickSF 50 dollars to install it and hundreds in lost revenue from fines.

  • @KendrickSF Great point. And the street cars seem to be new too, so it is just a design flaw :)

  • I am a huge supporter of Transit. I did not even know this law. Whom ever uploaded this, thank you for the knowledge.

  • my friend got her leg run over by a truck as she was getting off the Muni on judah

  • wow, I wonder if Stanley Roberts' work actually got the police to pay attention to this problem. I'm all for making the streets safer for pedestrians and people who take mass transit.

  • Driver said he drives there all the time and why is it a problem now? How ridiculous. It's always been the law and I guess he inadvertedly admitted on camera that he has been breaking the law all this time and finally got caught! EPIC!!!

  • Awesome video, like always! :D

  • this is hella racist!! only asain drivers got busted!! what about the damn NIGGAS!! or REDNECKS!!! OR THE RETARDED BLONDES!!

  • @goddamit911 Hella racist? Try looking up the word hypocrite in the dictionary. Geeesh.

  • @goddamit911 Because we know how to be elusive and our eyes are able to see way better. Don't hate, it's just the way it is.

  • Damn, they busted a lot of Asians.

  • @Spokker it was in sunset.

  • @Spokker

ASIANS CANT DRIVE!!! I was a pedestrian in a cross walk and I had a green and I got hit by an Asian Woman making a right turn on red. She did NOT stop nor look towards her right hand side to see me, just her left side to look for other cars coming from the other directions. I think Right Turn on Red should be illegal. It is very dangerous for pedestrians. ASIANS CANT DRIVE!!!

  • If you can't follow the rules, you don't Drive to San Fransisco, Periode, leave your car at the train station in San Jose or Oakland and take a train into San Fransisco, and ride buses, Cable Cars, trolly, or muni.
