The barrel is way to short for my liking, and the barrel aint octagonal. So in my mind, theres no point in owning it if what you want is a traditional western repeater. I'm going to purchase an 1866 Yellow Boy this summer instead.
@warrenlikesboats I do like magazine injector on the side though, that is a really cool and ethentic. I dont no which is better though, a 45-70 govt or a 45LC??
i love lever actions. they were revoloutionary for there time and are amazing. i have a winchester 30-30 but i wouldnt mind having a marlin or something else
I just got my grandfathers marlin .450 he bought it and shot it a few times and put it away. He has heart problems and he said it was just too much gun for him. I purchased it off him and started casting and reloading my own bullets from wheel weights and it is probably my favorite gun out of the ones that I own currently.
Very nice rifle! I have the 1895GS, although I wish they had made a stainless version of the "Classic" 1895 first. I would've appreciated the pistol-grip stock, longer barrel, and heavier weight, especially when hand-loading heavier bullets.
Somebody at my range had a .45-70 shooting next to me. I did not know this, I thought it was a 30-30. So I'm sitting there shooting my M4 and BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! I turned to look at the guy and I said "What the $@(*!" he said, "Yeah, everyone says that." Definitly not a 30-30. xD
@fredhart Just bought the same gun and your right about getting the reaction. I fired it today, pulled it down and kicked the case out and looked up to see guys just standing and watching. Thats what this american classic is all about
The Marlin lever actions have always ejected to the side. The Winchesters ejected from the top and still do. It's not a matter of age but of manufacture.
The ghost ring sights are a necessary upgrade to this phenomenal gun. This is my favorite gun in my collection. Anyone who owns this gun MUST learn to reload it's ammunition.
@ristin59 Definitely a good idea. What's interesting is that revolver rounds tend to use relatively slow-burning powders. That's why snubbies make a nice fireball, and you often see wheelguns with 6" or 8" barrels. Even with an 8" pipe, you're wasting energy out of the end of the barrel. Put that same round in a 20" barrel and it will do amazing things--the ballistics are like a totally different round.
@fredhart I agree, I have a Simmons 2.5X20 on my own 1895 and a 4X32 22 Mag on my Ruger 10/22. They're outstanding scopes for the money, way better than Bushnell or Tasco. I think you'd have buy a Leupold to get anything better.

TheMrhotcutesexyboy 1 year ago
@TheMrhotcutesexyboy
No. You can only shoot ammo the rifle is chambered for in any gun. The .500 S&W won't even chamber in the rifle.

what is ur target made out of that pin hole ur talken abt mine has two holes there
curtispa 1 year ago
I just got one.
Thanks for the disassembly lesson.
Took it apart to clean as you did.
Man does it shoot nice.
Didn't have to adjust sights much to hit the target center. This was easy also.
No scope, I like the Iron sights.
Used the Hornady ammo 325gr.
It's fast. Has a different kick to it, more like a good shove.
Don't expect to get sore from it.
Good Idea to plug your ears. It's loud.

Thanks for the demo.
covered some good basics.
There are some great antihistamines out there to help your sinus congestion.
Hornaday makes some good ammo now for these guns.
