Great Video, I got a lot my info on Worms, and Vermicomposting over at HomesteadearthDOTcom, Chris did a great write up on Vermicomposting. I got a few good ideas there and cant wait too build my own!
Gather them yourself from manure or compost piles. You need about two pounds to get some real action going in a home compost bin. They reproduce pretty quickly in the right conditions, but since they sell for about $20/lb, you'll have a hard time finding anybody that just wants to give them away.
Nightcrawlers are better. Go out at night with a flashlight and shine it on the ground. The worms are attracted to the light and rise to the top of the soil. Just like fish are attracted to light. You can easily find out if you have a nightcrawler population by trying this. You can get all the nightcrawlers you need in just a few nights or so depending on the population on your property. The best place to find them is in your garden because of the soil condition. Good luck!!
I like how they used the rocks in the bottom and then put a feed bag (woven poly)over them. There were holes punched in the lower sides. Were there holes in the bottom, too. Great use of an old plastic garbage can (maybe one with a hole in it). You get the idea of the layering.
