ive had mine since it came out, and its never had a screen protector. The screen has never had a single scratch on it. I swear the screen is indestructible. I even let my friend take a hammer to it. nothing
people who use screen protectors are the biggest idiots in the world, it amazes me the people the fall for purchasing one.. prolly the same ppl who STILL buy EmergenC for being sick even though they were sued and publically came out saying it was a placebo
@MattLydon2010 That isnt Droid 2 software that's just what the droid on Android version 2.0 looked like. The look changed when the Droid got Android version 2.0.1
How do you have your "Unlock" screen to look like that? I had a Droid and had it replaced with a new one and both still have the drag right to Unlock feature.
my droid has fallen onto hard surfaces many times, and has been through alot, theres a tiny unnoticeable scratch on the screen that can only be seen if the light hits it's just right. so I can never even see it, this is on of the most durable phones I've ever had and seen.
nice vid! ive got a new milestone yesterday and was really worried about getting scratches on its display ! Now im a bit relieved! We need more people like you who sacrifice their mobile phones for a good cause! :)
But do you still recommend a screen protector foil?
Okay, so stabbing at it with your keys didn't scratch it, but when I put mine in my pocket it got 2 little nicks. If I was wearing chainmail pants this would make sense, however, I usually stick with standard 'cloth' clothing. Perhaps it's only vulnerable to soft things. For your next vid, you should rub it with a kitten.
@phoenixmar Or maybe perhaps you had a grain or two of sand or something in your pants. Glass is made of heated sand so only something as hard as or harder than sand can scratch it. The next vid should show him scratching a droid with a diamond.
The screen does crack. But it is obviously pretty resilient, nice video. I have been rolling without a screen protector for a while now with no scratches and was wondering if it was just me being super careful to not scratch it.
@IamtheANTIDOTE2556 and i believe when you update to froyo "home" is replaced with "launcher"...which is a lesser version of "launcher pro". this is a testament to the awesomeness of the free home replacement. :)

Ok, so my wife and I were watching this and the first question was... Why in the hell is he doing that to his phone??? LOL! Is this is a test phone, your personal phone or what? Great Video bu the way! :)
i dropped my droid phone and i don't have no scratches on it but it did get a big crack on it i was so sad so know i got get it fixed for like 50 dollars and the last droid i had got a chunk take-in off the side of it so i am so getting my phone covered in ghost armor and with that 1st droid i had i had a lot of problems with it it was crazy cuz i got it right when it came out

jack ass its a tempered glass screen its not going to scratch as easy as a regular phone with plastic and this next part goes to 925728dragonfly: yes the screen will shatter i know from personal experince it wont brake out due to the glue but yes it will shadder and look simular to a spider web
Im thinking about the Droid it looks aweosme and like a super phone i hate apple items and i wish it would die :) how is the droid and is it worth the money to get
most scratches on screens even this good usually come from small particles of sand and dirt and just grit that is in a pocket. Usually keys or a lighter or anything else of that size will not damage a screen unless it has a very very sharp point. The dirt in your pocket acts like sandpaper against the screen. If you did a sandpaper test i bet you would get some scratches. :)
@Moppin919 Yes, right now I am squinting at my Milestone and cursing heavens, because when I bought it I was comforted by this very video not to buy a screen protector, and now there is a milimeter long scratch on my screen that is so narrow, that it acts as an interference aperture and messes with the light coming through it, so, especially on a white screen, it shines in all colors of the rainbow..! F*** it, I'm buing a protector now..
Well while in Miami, I dropped my Moto droid 2 stories off a balcony, it landed on the top level of the parking garage, in a puddle of rain water about 3 inches deep. The phone slide open and there was water between the LCD and the screen it's self, but no damage besides that. That was about 3 months ago, and the phone still works perfectly...
The Droid has an actual GLASS screen...not the crapulent plastic ones on most phones. its very hard to scratch glass. You would literally need to scrub it with sand paper, and even that might not work. Glass is a little heavier, but as you can see, it is also a lot more durable.
I got my droid a day or two ago. I'm a clumsy person so I've dropped it at least 5 or six times outside on the concrete and inside on my floor...(which has carpet on it...well not good carpet...I live in campus apartments...)
It's held up pretty well. No scratches or anything =)
Thanks for this tho. Would you suggest I still buy a screen protector?
@spinewhiped That lock screen was the old android 2.0 lockscreen. The droid now has 2.1 and only if you root your phone can you get that lockscreen back. Kind of a complicated process if you don't know anything about rooting.
@925728dragonfly I DID have a defective phone but not anymore. Not sure if a knife would scratch it but if you drop the droid the screen will more than likely crack/shatter due to the hard fall since the droid is so heavy. I wouldn't recommend trying :P
@elduvall7 I seen that happen to my friend. I bought the little red case that goes on the front and back, hopefully if i drop it real bad that will protect it.
@elduvall7 Dude, don't worry about him. He obviously can't even spell "buy" or "you" etc. so he must have not passed the 3rd grade. Don't worry about children. This is a great video btw!
Even though I know it's defective, I actually felt my stomach lurch a little when he started going at it with that key. Glad we could see this, though; it's very reassuring!
Thanks for posting this. I hate screen covers and have been going back and forth with what I should do. You answered my question...no cover needed. Hope you were able to get your defective droid replaced without any problems.
I love how retarded some people who commented on this are. He clearly says that its defective and he has another one that he keeps maintained. Read your shit youtube.
OMG I feel so bad. You were just trying to do a simple test to show people if scratches appearon a droid screen and YOU (the one doing something nice) got scratches where it was not meant to be scratched. Sorry that that happened, good video tho.
LOL I'm just kidding. But still; please don't ever do that again. I have like OCD, and am squeamish, so I can't stand looking at things like this. I am trying to get my hands on a Droid right now. But remember, PLEASE NO MORE KING KONG SLASHY-SLASHY ON THE POOR, BEAUTIFUL THING, OK? Thanks!!!! :)
Really. That literally made me cry. You slash the crap out of that beautiful, brand new, EXPENSIVE phone like nothing, and I am having a hard time even getting my own Droid. Thank you for making me have sympathy for the poor phone. Thank you. Yep.
Hey everybody. Got my droid, lovin it. I got a case for it, but love it without the case. Does the metal part around the screen really get scratched that much if I leave it caseless?
I like the fact that almost all the people commenting here are materialists who go crazy just by watching this... Why would you care for what this person did to his phone? He bought it so I don't think there is no reason to complain if he wants to smash his keys on his phone...
Nice video btw. Great to know that the Motorola Droid has a durable screen :D
lol, my screen protector got scratched on my droid, took it off today to replace it with a new one. got bubbles in it. then threw it away and found out the droid has gorilla glass! no need for a protector anymore!!!
Gosh, isn't the internet filled with such nice people? I did this test because it was being requested by many forum members at the time and this droid was defective anyway... so I no longer have that droid and I take really GOOD care of my current droid. If you can't be nice, then you should probably keep your mouth shut as it doesn't provide anything worthwhile. Thanks to all of you with constructive comments!
Hey man, thanks for the test...i spent my money on one of those ZAGG protectors just to find out that I didn't need it lol!!
These other people should learn how to listen to the video instead of watching it with no sound...you clearly stated the phone was broken already......

Sorry that that happened, good video tho.

oo so its as scratch proof as the storm, thats good

LOL I'm just kidding. But still; please don't ever do that again. I have like OCD, and am squeamish, so I can't stand looking at things like this. I am trying to get my hands on a Droid right now. But remember, PLEASE NO MORE KING KONG SLASHY-SLASHY ON THE POOR, BEAUTIFUL THING, OK? Thanks!!!! :)
MomoKun121 1 year ago
Really. That literally made me cry. You slash the crap out of that beautiful, brand new, EXPENSIVE phone like nothing, and I am having a hard time even getting my own Droid. Thank you for making me have sympathy for the poor phone. Thank you. Yep.

Wow, why so emotional? I wonder what happens if you watch the "Smash my PS3 video"

Hey everybody. Got my droid, lovin it. I got a case for it, but love it without the case. Does the metal part around the screen really get scratched that much if I leave it caseless?
Thanks!

Thanks for risking your phone's life.
Perhaps I won't invest on an expensive grimy screen protector from Zagg.

@elduvall7
Hey man, thanks for the test...i spent my money on one of those ZAGG protectors just to find out that I didn't need it lol!!
These other people should learn how to listen to the video instead of watching it with no sound...you clearly stated the phone was broken already......
stix2002 1 year ago
@elduvall7 Thanks so much. This was exactly what I was worried about when I bought this thing. This video was useful.
