I was thinking of getting one of these but can't decide between Linux and XP. All I need it for is to file away Word documents with incrusted photos of properties and also skpe. What I am not sure about is the quality of pictures and if the word documents allows pictures to be inserted or just pictures which you can type on and use as a slide show?. Anyone know about this?. Thanks
If you're working with a lot of Word documents, and you have an external (USB) CD drive to install Microsoft Office, I would go with XP. Linux comes with Open Office, but if you are used to working with Word, then that is probably the best route to go. As far as Word, the latest version allows you to do pretty much anything you want at all. If you are asking about the quality of the webcam, the version I got has a VGA cam which isn't that great, but I think they upgraded it since then.
Hi Kev. Today I bought the Samsung NC10 with 160 GB and with windows XP. Thought ti the best way to go with my work and compatability with office work, hope I made the correct choice!!. All the best and thanks for your help. Kevin.
There is already a chat program installed that works with the MSN protocol, so there is no need to install anything else on the Linux version. On XP, you can install whatever you like.
This laptop is not meant for gaming. The XP version may be able to handle really really old games, but with a video memory that is shared with RAM and is between 8 and 16MB (i think), you're not going to be doing any serious 3D gaming on these machines. If you want something to play games with, get a PSP or desktop replacement, netbooks are NOT for games at all.
Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.. having tons of exams at once makes me feel miserable. Even though the Acer Aspire one sucks at gaming, it is great for what it is made for, and I really like mine, though if I were to get another I would get the hard drive version with XP.
If you got the XP version, you may be able to run ancient games, but don't expect to be able to run anything that needs more than ~32MB graphics memory. It's made to surf the web, check email, and do the basic stuff.
Yes, you can move around the icons, and change the background easily. It takes a little more trouble to add more icons or remove them, or to use the default Linux desktop. It is highly customizable, but it takes some knowledge of Linux, or some help from others who have it.

Armagetron runs brilliantly. I have it on mine :D

me too :D
I brought one shortly after posting that first comment, and play armagetron all the time <3
also @ Kev, why would it matter if i buy the XP version?

The Linux version seems to have less RAM dedicated to graphics memory, but I am not completely sure about that.
