The earliest Arthur episodes reminded me of "The Busy World of Richard Scarry" (same company and producers, but it wasn't aired on PBS.)
Hmm, having seen the classic episodes with the newer opening/closings, I wonder what it'd look like with a newer episode using these old opening/closings?
Holy shit...this takes me back. After PBS made Clifford, their programming started going down the tubes. Bring back Mr. Rogers, Arthur, Bill Nye the Science Guy and Wishbone! Greatest kids shows ever.
@sclublnbtfan really? It's still around? I agree, nothing beats the older styles of tv shows. Anyone remember waiting until Saturday just to watch cartoons in general? I sure do! lol!
@FluffMaster101 im totally with you i was born in 1994 and i still remember when i was 3 or 4 that Polaroid and juicy juice were the first sponsers and that there was no thank you said after the viewers like you thing!
Why can't they do the funding like this..... Funding for Arthur is provided by the national endowment for children's educational television. The Arthur vining davis foundations. Major corporate underwriting for Arthur is provided by..... (juicy juice 100% juice for 100% kids). And by the corporation for public broadcasting. And by the annual financial support of PBS viewers like you.
And that Corporation for Public Broadcasting logo (you know that old circle sign) that was freaking me out. But I did like the viewers like you sign. Plus I didn't know it was also provided by the national endownment for children's educational television and the Arthur vining Davis foundations.
Man didn't remember when it had the part about ordering the Arthur series on VHS. All I remember is they show you the website and the then the library message.
Man, this is VERY old. The CPB circle is retired (and creepy), the PBS credit ("...and Viewers Like You....") is now improper without saying "PBS station" and "Thank You" Libby's sold their "Juicy Juice" drink to Nestle and is no longer a sponsor (plus the billboard is an acid trip), the Arthur title screen doesn't have trademark symbolsafter the word "Arthur", you can only go to the grown-up PBS website to "vist Arthur online", CinAR is plastered with Cookie Jar....
(adding to the previous commment) And ohh baby the P-pals on the station ID and the 1993 PBS Kids logo is used instead of 1996 (Programming error or wasn't in use then?). Of course most of this can be found on the first volumes of the Random House Arthur tapes (minus the P-pals and opening funding, plus the online plug was after the funding in the videos). EncoreVisions, are these premeries?
@thevisualboy37: Yeah. It's Superman (Becky "WordGirl" Botsford as a female Clark "Superman" Kent, with Todd "Scoops" Ming as her Lois Lane, "Captain Huggyface" Bob as her Krypto, and--I guess--Tobey McCallister III as her Lex Luthor) Meets Schoolhouse Rock (vocabulary wise) Meets Powerpuff Girls (art style).
Being as objective as it's possible to be for an adult, my problem with newer PBS kids shows is that they seem rather shallow. There's not much meat on them. (That goes double for the animation, which is usually full of digital shortcuts that really look bloodless and antiseptic). And they''re much more nakedly curriculum-oriented than older shows were---it seems to me that older shows usually mixed the curriculum more seamlessly with the stories than newer ones.
