Normally I would'nt be too suspicious, TV shows are going to think up all sorts of weird plots. But, given the many many cases of people using works of fiction to spread political ideas, particularly in the modern day, and the fact that 9-11 was an important event in American history, I would not put it past them. I'm sure there are a lot of conspiracy theorist's who would jump at the chance.

I think the Network is just playing to what people already know. The mojority of people, and I even live in a very midwestern town, think there is more to the story than planes hitting the building and making them fall. So even if the network got backlash, it is a small majority. So it makes sense to cater to what the populace thinks anyway, helps ratings. And it isn't like the network is gonna say what really went on anyway.

I don't think the story arc was aimed to point an accusing finger at anyone for the events of 9/11. Though, the idea probably did come from conspiracy theories, or simply from the fact that most villains nowadays have the idea of creating a better world through excessive destruction and fear.
So, it probably wasn't Kring saying "Bush blew up the towers... here's proof!" It was more of a necessary plot point.

The allegory to 9/11 is obvious, and the unification, political and motivational, caused by 9/11 is a fact.
The question is whether the attempt here is to mirror this mainstream reality and insert a fictitious, underlying plot of manipulation, or whether it's to promote or at least reflect a school of thought in the minority that such a thing has already happened.
Considering the way things work in the business, I'd say it's both, chiefly the former with a clever nod at the latter.

No, Star Trek does the exact SAME thing with their plots. Look at episodes of Star Trek that aired after 9/11, you'll see what I'm talking about. Voyager is the most obvious of these real-life plot insertions.

Are you seriously trying to say this is worth noting when for years we had the X-files and its "3 gunmen of the apocalypse" (or something similar) who believed every single conspiracy in existance... they even came out and said the same thing every ep
