@anziferrum Exactly. When they did the RJ at the end of the reactor level (power2), up in that shaft is a hidden trigger that lets them skip the coolant facility. They assume it's a leftover shortcut used during level design. (I say "they" because I didn't do any of the runs, I just recammed / edited the footage for them.)
For more info, check out the FAQ linked in the description of this vid. (Link had broken but I fixed it just now.) Cheers and thanks for watching!
@Naroon201 ....you could pick your own model. you could play the game as a man in a sheep custome, a music box or a bagpipe with a bad disposition if you felt like it - you just had to get the model you wanted off the internet. =]
Read the description, it says "recam" which means that in the demo everything is seen from the world's point of view rather than the player's point of view, so you can see how the player looked like when he was performing the speedrun in the game.
Yes, develloped by id. It's indeed fair to say that Q1 & 2 didn't have much in common which is why most players who fell in love with Q1 never got to like Q2. Most players who did like Q2 were probably new to Quake games. Still a good game though, just totally different atmosphere and sounds. And I guess most Q2 players didn't like Q3 etc.
Imagine this: Someone shows you the game and they think you never played it before and you pull it off playing like in this video. Haha, imagine their faces.
lol at 21:48 she flips the door off, but anyway out of all te games ive ever played this is definetley my favorite its old school and original making it amazing, but you do it amazingly to quick to make it seem as epic as it is :P but great job, i could never do that
Respect to the cameramen. Exceptionally fast-paced vid, forcing you to strain your attention and not let go until the very last seconds. Simply good stuff.
Double-jumping is something very hard to master. And when dropping out ammo to prevent door from closing... it is cool. Just as running under a mob after pushing him up with rocket launcher... respect.

how can this be counted when who ever made it is cheating? you cant jump that high. if your going to cheat then you might aswell use Notarget and God, and Noclip while your at it.
I'm really (sincerely) curious, you guys who are convinced parts of this are fake... on what basis do you think so? All the demos that make up this video were available for intense scrutiny by a huge group of speed jumpers (you know, 10 years ago when they were recorded!), they were recorded using a special mod that detected use of cheats. So on what basis (other than "I've never seen anyone pull that off" or "I can't do that") are you calling these fake?
Since I saw the other Q2 speed run where the runner was floating up a wall by standing on a grenade, its hard 2 trust another Q2 speed run. 5:32 the lasers in the door were put there so U cant get through it unless you hit a certain switch somewhere. Dont tell me U can just jump over it. Since when can U jump that high on ur own in Q2? 5:38 He made 3 jumps, what did he use on that 3rd jump? Nothing was there above the switch! 16:42 maybe cuz of quad damage but still seems too high to be true.
5:32 - There's some kind of bug in the game where the lasers don't do their job if things are done in a certain order. Can't remember the specifics, but it's a bug they exploited.
5:38 - First 2 were a double jump on the switch, third was off the upper rim of the doorway (right of the button). Hard to see in the YouTube render b/c it's dark.
16:42 - was quad rocket jump off a tiny "lip" edge (imperfection of the level design); player damage absorbed (mostly) by the power armor.
Bingo, I found their FAQ, it explains all the tricks (including the three you ask about). I am adding a link to it in the info / description for this video. I remembered wrong about 16:42, it was just a plain quad-rocket jump; they did it off the wall in the water to actually reduce the height of the jump to shave time. Anyway, check the info for a link which describes every unusual / noteworthy thing they did to complete this. Thanks!
Thought you'd want to know, I found the FAQ put together by the speedrunners from back when these demos were recorded. Check the info/description for this video for a link. Cheers.
I seem to remember there were about 12-15 players involved in the "winning" demos that made the cut for this film; probably quite a few more participants than that who were keeping things competitive.
is this the same team that did the quake1 but also had that scandinavian guy do those one liners? that was funny as hell. did they do a q2 as well w/ one liners?
Man I miss this game. I used to play a mod called "Weapons" Very small community that played it compared to the whole game, But the mod was amazingly fun. This game with a hook is 30 times better. Although q2jump was another favriot mod of mine. This was how me and my father bonded :-) Now he's in COD4 and I play counter Strike. But my roots stick with quake. Agressive off the wall Gameplay =D
Man i grew up with Quake and Q2 is the best one. Me and my friends played it about 6 months ago. Stayed up all strafe jumping, rocket jumping, rail gunning and you still know how to do it. Oh great video btw!

Or does the reactor core "crashed" after you RJ'ed over it?
