What a great story!!! You are so clear and I love your storytelling style!! I am a NERD too and wish you luck! Ever interpreted a meat packing class??? THAT"S a cool (well really it was very COLD!) assignment! Haha!
Lol. You're crazy for enjoying something like that! It seems that you enjoy something in life that most people don't enjoy!
I'd like to ask you if you ever had experience where a hearing person has said something SO STUPID toward to a deaf community? Please send a reply to my video called "What was a dumbest thing...?"
@YesWeCantaloupe = oh goodness no... each entity must provide accessible services for all persons (ie: wheelchair ramps, braille signage, interpreters, etc) It's not a high paying job, but it's not a lower one either.... one of those things you should really love doing - and be content with making a modest living at
wow, what an amazing story. I like your attitude and playfulness. I am studying to be an ASL interpreter- I hope I can someday interpret fun classes, too...although I am not sure welding is quite for me....keep the stories coming!
Hi I enjoyed your story. I am a NERD and a BSL interpreter in UK (originally from Calif USA) and I can relate in a lot of ways. I don't need all the fancy hi profile jobs and some would kill for em. Kool for them> BUt then I am not sure I wanna crawl round whilst the client has hot molten metal, either, so Im somewhere in between. I wish all these kinds of vids were avail in BSL, thinking of makin some vids as there aren't many xxxx
Lol I love ur story! same here, I'm work on plumbing, work on copper pipe with hold torch on fitting and solder (silve string) fill joint. I got burn myself from drip of solder on my arm and touch copper pipe when they are too hot!
Be careful when u are interpreter in Plumbing class during student are practice on copper or u can catch of fire from torch!
I've never even HEARD of NERD. That's awesome! Your story was excellent. I've been deaf my whole life but, alas, didn't learn sign til high school and since I have trouble with understand sign sometimes-I thought I'd need your captions. Totally didn't need to-your signing is absolutley FANTASTIC!!!!!!
I remember when I was in gym class as a hard hearing student in mainstream and one of the interpreters were standing in the middle of the basketball court. We were running back and forth and there was this hard of hearing guy I know and he ran ahead of us, running close to the interpreter. Then the teacher said we have to do like 3 more paces. The interpreter interpret that to me and then she turn around and was about to interpret and was bump/hit by him so hard in the face. She got a black eye.
I was in same welding class as my deaf friends. Tomboy cool scar. LOVE THAT PART. One time other way around. I got my deaf friend earring stuck my hair, but he forget sign to me he just yelling so I freak out and yank my hair around more. Then he just grab my head til I understand. OOPS !!!
No, I am a NERD (Not Even Related to Deaf) :) I grew up in an interpreting family that was HEAVILY involved with Deaf Culture. Most of their friends were Deaf and it was all I knew for a long time :) LOVED IT!
Hey Thankz for putting the captions!!! I been on a mission for the past 2 weeks learnin ASL jus so i could understand this video haha... your facial expressions are hilarious
I watched your version with non-captioning first. FUnny SToRY! Then i noticed that u had a captioning version i was curious how you worded your words~ Interesting... You worded it way differetn than i would. It is interesting how u worded it~ But i like the non caption version better bec if its cc i get distracted by the caption and look up and down at your signs and the words even if i know ASL~! if you know what i mean lol~! =)
omg that's hilarious! I'll remember to be careful in situations like that!

Is interpreting well-paying? I wonder how deaf people can afford paying for him/herself AND the interpreter.

You mean did I get hurt often? YES.
Was it always in welding class? NO, I am clumsy and it happens everywhere.
(but I did accidentally sit on a metal shard in welding class, and it got stuck in my skin! The Deaf student pulled it out for me though!)
