Woah, really? I know 1080p "real" movies can strain a computer a lot, but cartoons should eat a lot less power. What player and codecs are you using? I strongly suggest you download CCCP and use Media Player Classic Home Cinema for animated videos.

@LimeLemon93 a 1080p video file will take the same amount of resources to stream/buffer/play whether it's a cartoon, movie or music video. It doesn't change, at least in terms of the formats used on youtube.

The player he's using is the Youtube player, obviously.

@bonermont That depends on what codecs were used in encoding it, and what codecs you use for decoding it (and the program you use). The file ending (.mp4 etc) is only a container and does not matter much. Also depends on the complexity of the video, how much it's able to be compressed. If there are many different colours and shapes like in a RL video, it will take a lot of memory and processing power. If it mostly consists of vector shapes and few colours like in a cartoon it will take less.

I can for example not play modern films like Gamer or Inception on my old computer without severe lag, but all anime and cartoons plays perfectly. But if he uses the embedded YouTube flash-player it matters less, yes. I can't see why he would do that though, since you get much better quality and performance by downloading it (for example with RealPlayer) and playing it locally.

@LimeLemon93 VLC and the codecs that come with it. Oddly enough, I can't even watch 720 H.264 using the official codec that comes in Flash and Quicktime, but it works fine using the reverse-engineered x264 codec in VLC.

Well, as I said, codecs and programs make much difference, and are good for different purposes. Look into my advice, and remember that you could have downloaded the episode in 1080p and either converted it to 720 or compressed it some.
