@jsiszero The majority of people in EU or US for that matter, don't JUST buy a BMW in order to achieve social status - even though it's a key factor for many high-end car customers. You cannot compare the luxury/build quality/ride/experience of a Hyuandai and BMW.

Anyway, a MB S350CDI BE is faster compared to a S400 Hybrid (0,3 sec. to 62 mp/h + 20 more NM) and more efficient regarding fuel economy (S350BE = 7,6-7,9 l/100 km - S400H = 7,9/8,1 l/100km). The lifecycle of a diesel is also better..

Show me a number where worldwide sales of luxury hybrids outsell their gasoline counterparts then you'll have some credibility.

A Diesel can outrun it / a lot cheaper / proven technology - still more efficient than a Hybrid. Hybrid technology is NOT the future.

I guess it's a different thing in US where you don't pay shit for fuel. Most don't give a f*** about the environment either - at least not yet...

Diesels are more complicated than petrol engines. You have to strengthen some components so that it can handle the amount of torque or high compression, and requires boost such as a turbo. More components, more costly. Operating costs cheaper, yes... but development and manufacturing additional components not so much. Hybrids/diesels are niche products, they are not accepted worldwide as of now. Gasoline engines have better economies of scale right now.
