this song makes my hairs stand on end every time. such a slick tune. nothing like Joe strummer and there will be no other artist like him ever. modern music isn't what it used to be. there are a few hidden gems but nothing to the extent of good music that there used to be back in the day.
People didn't absloutly realized what they were experinecing, they weren't even singin'... I would have loved to be there, CLASH AND JO FOR EVER.......
They thought M.I.A. was supposed to be there--bet they'd be lively as hell. When I was 17 and saw the Clash I knew greatness indeed was before me...and acted appropriately. That being said the Nuremberg comment is something Joe would'nt have liked.
Be sure that i love joe as much as any goodhearted person here.
Just want to tell you that yes - maybe we germans are best at making nuremberg rallies. i doubt it, you don´t, thats ok. But this is certain : rally-crowds are made up of people who love and cherish stereotypes. So there`s a place for you there too as you have just shown.
And one more thing : yes, its embarassing to see the response they get for their wonderful, wonderful music.
They are German, famous for being 'reserved' when watching a band, they like to be silent and take in every ounce of music to be heard. very laid back, and massive music fans.
you dont have to be in a stupid mosh pit to show ''enjoyment''
Who cares about the crowd??? Even mild Joe Strummer out rocks almost any other artist around. The Clash at the Bond times square in early 80's. . . they must have been so tight. Those back to back shows.. ..Now that's fucking rock n roll. We are talkin Elvis at the Lousianna Hayride The Stones in 60's California. . . . .Fucking Chuck Berry doing the duck walk. . .. Pile on the awesome. . .
Pessoas como joe strummer não mereciam morrer por isso ele permanece vivo eternizado em suas canções!!! agradeço a ele por ter feito músicas que me inspiram!!!
Like I've said in the past stupid fucks... they don't appreciate what they were listening. I hope Joe is resting in peace, he was the greatest vocalist in punk music. Long live The Clash!!!
wish i were there, never got to see a performance... born to late... :-( a quote that has stayed in my head for years now ... "Everytime you feel down and out, remember, your alive. Live everyday to the fullest....your alive man" - Strummer ... very rarely do I not remember this...
i don't see anything wrong with the crowd. the audience is supposed to listen to the artist's interpretation. nowadays people scream more than the singer. damn, listen to what they are telling you (if what they are saying is important - if you listen to robbie williams scream and yell as long as you want...)
lol, "I got the shoe!!" I absolutely love Joe Strummer. He was the greatest. Pretty simple statement, I know. But oh, so, true. MAN I wish I could've seen him.
lol, "I got the shoe!!" I absolutely love Joe Strummer. He was the greatest. Pretty simple statement, I know. But oh, so, true. MAN I wish I could've seen him.
And you know all those peeps who didn't know what they were witnessing are like, "I was there! It was great!" NOW. Sheesh.... what I would've given to see the mighty, mighty Joe Strummer live. Never thought we'd lose you so early, Joe. RIP
It was just lost on this festival crowd. They want that summer's in crowd rather than musical legends serenading them. Apparently big fans of Cinderella though. SUGGESTION - Go to the panto folks!
oh man i wish i was there... to see Joe live with anyband i would do anything for it... I envy everyone who got to see him... RIP... man you still live through your timeless songs...

This is probably my favorite live video of Joe. The Clash were awesome but the pressures of being a popular band soon took its toll. Here Joe seems most happy doing his thing with the Mescaleros. This show could make a great live dvd. I dont care about the crowd reaction as the band mesmerizes me! The best.
I just came across the videos of this concert a few days ago, and I am just blown away! This is all I've been playing non-stop ever since. @frusciante7 you're kidding me right? It saddens me how many people out there think MIA's paper planes is actually original. Heres some advice as an aspiring music fan... know that nowadays...especially with acts like MIA, if it sounds great....its most likely taken or sampled from someone else.
@spacem0nkey77 Erm yeh did i say anything about it? I just noticed that the notes at the beginning of that song and those from the beginning of paper planes are the same... Damn cool off man xD
Let's see....I'm in the front row....watching a fucking legend try to make a connection.....a fucking poet the likes we won't see again for who knows how long....and i think i'll turn to the girl behind me and have a conversation.
@canadianroot Thks. The last friday I saw (spanish tv) "Joe Strummer, The future is unwritten" and still i guess why I losed her music after The Clash. Joe was a great man and musicians, please!!!
@greenfish88 Pretty difficult tune to play on a les paul live - an asian melody on a western instrument. Besides, Joe Strummer was in The Clash. If you want wanky perfection, go listen to Pink Floyd.
its funny how when this song first came out everyone bagged it......but now that joe is dead and the clash are long gone everyone that shat on it is now saying 'oh they were the best'....personally i liked the band in every carnation they had.,,,from start to finish...and further to the mescaleros and joes solo stuff.
"I got the shoe......Cinderella"! Roflmao....Great performance by Joe&Co. Shame about the crowd as I've seen Rockplast performances from Rory Gallagher that have knocked the crowd out. RIP Big Man!
@TheLargeJesus that might be true ... but that's just not the right audience for someone like joe strummer .... I bet 99% in the audience didn't even know who strummer was; I personally would sell my grandparents for having strummer playing that song to me ....
Just love this video, had to swing by again and listen to this. Joe is so amazing...he cared about what he sang - he wrote what was in his heart and what he saw - he didn't set out to change the world, he just had a message - and that message - it changed a lot of us. I saw an interview once with him and he called his inspiration his "3AM thoughts". I can't think of any artists today that are this relevant, or would even get any airplay if they tried to challenge "the man". RIP in Joe.
Joe seemed to be suggesting that the crowd were going wild at the back but not at the front. Loved the moment with the shoe where he calls out for Cinderella!
I agree with the below comment - we need the spirit of Strummer to be carried on and live on in another prominent musical figure. Music, culture and dominant modes of thinking today just make me recall that Atari Teenage Riot song: Too Dead For Me.
I'm not much of a fan of the Clash's material after London calling, but it makes me wanna kick someones ass that people dont know the beginning riff was from Joe, not that MIA skank
not german assholes, most of the crowd are only too young to know Joe, sad but true. I was there and it was one of my emotional concert moments of all time!!
@swill689 too bad all the indie bands are a dime a dozen, and we're just addicted to specific sounds we've heard instead of being original.... but you're DAMN RIGHT
That opening riff, guitar and bass, then drum.. Made me jump over the walls of Glastonbuty 99, to get in up close to it!
I had just arrived on site, and you know that feeling, when you hear great music? The hairs on your back and tingle up your spine.. Nothing beats that.
Joe is appealing to the living dead (the audience) with all his heart!!
Can't help but think that an audience like that would drain you of the will to live! But I'm certain, however soul destroying it appears, Joe could deal with all kinds of crowds in his time!
Thats not true check a Silvermond show in live ... zum bei Spiel :-)
These guys in the video front of the big man ...hm they just dunno anything about anything and waiting for the actual german Tokyo Hotel group to get amaized and ... pfhhh Oh God knows how happy I`d be to see him to listen how Joe sings that time.... I miss him even if I did not know him but I miss him a lot and it makes me miserable to know I would and could never see or hear him again in live....
this song makes my hairs stand on end every time. such a slick tune. nothing like Joe strummer and there will be no other artist like him ever. modern music isn't what it used to be. there are a few hidden gems but nothing to the extent of good music that there used to be back in the day.

not german assholes, most of the crowd are only too young to know Joe, sad but true. I was there and it was one of my emotional concert moments of all time!!

@swill689 too bad all the indie bands are a dime a dozen, and we're just addicted to specific sounds we've heard instead of being original.... but you're DAMN RIGHT

@DainChristian Other way around. M.I.A. sampled this song done by the Clash back in the Eighties.
