half-seat canter shows the strength and balance of the rider. you can google "hunt seat equitation" to get a better idea. it's a great base for riding.
Heya, I just wondered if you could explain to me the theory behind the 'hunt seat' as in why do you canter so slowly in a foward seat and rules and judging etc etc, we don't really have anything like it in england and i was just curious :) x
so sorry for your unbearable loss, i just couldn't believe it that there were more Sir Winstons out there. I have a bay gelding Sir Winston and i was trying to find him on youtube but instead I came upon your beautiful boy I to show in Hunter and Flat but winstons fav has always been jumper I dont know what I would ever do without him I have had some outrageous offers but i cant find myself ever considering one of them. Them Sir Winstons are pretty Special!!!!!
Yeah, he was definately special. Glad to hear there are more Sir Winstons out there, the name just fit him so well. Regal, smart, and kind. Too bad you came across that hunter show, it was a really off day for both of us. But, it turned out to be our last show together, so I'm glad to have done it. Thank you for your kind words.
Well, I never think I'll be ok with his loss, but I am trying my best to move forward with riding. It took me over 2 months to get back in the saddle and start up lessons again. Which, on a lesson horse is quite difficult. But, I'm coping. Thank you for your condolences and encouragement.
Your welcome. :) I know how hard it is to lose someone so important to you, especially a horse. But, I know for sure that you will find another horse that will be close to your heart just as your horse did. And I assure you he is in a better place now. :)
I love you and your horse... I am about to pick up HS again and I was scanning equitation videos, I love this! I love the music, too. It sounds like the vocalist from Radiohead...who is it?
It's Smashing Pumpkins "Stand Inside Your Love", Rufus Wainright "I Don't Know What It Is", and Smashing Pumpkins "Landslide".
I am trying to get back into myself again. Unfortunately, my wonderful horse passed away so I've been out of it since then. This was actually one of our worst rides in a show. He was really something when he showed!
Yeah, he was amazing. Someone with more experience deserved him, but he was kind with me being a beginner and with the stupid stuff I do. And yes, my friend says "quack, quack" because of my turned out toes and flying legs. It got better after I got back in to serious training, but kind of doesn't matter any more since I don't have Winston.
You remind me of me and my horse. I have the exact same problems. I always turn my toes out, and my legs swing like mad when I canter. I find myself continually reminding myself not to do that lol. My horse Murphy was given to me and he's an older show horse that knows it all. He's so forgiving, and just loves to go and work.
Yeah, I've finally fixed my duck feet and the leg swing. It still comes back to haunt me every now and then, but it's much better. Winston was definately patient with me!
Yeah, was not a huge chestnut lover until I got Winston. He always had the most beautiful coat at all the shows. He was such a beautiful boy, miss him like the dickens.
third and second...kind of an off day for both of us. It was freeezing and really windy. I couldn't even hear the announcer and I got the classes backwards. Still was enjoyable, would give anything in the world to have another show with Winston, but unfortunately, he passed away recently. Miss riding with him much.

I'm so sorry to hear that your horse passed away! You did really good for equitation. :) I hope you're doing okay with the loss.

I'm super sorry you lost him. He reminds me a lot of my mare.
I'm not used to seeing equitation like that at the canter. Other thing I noticed is a lot of hand movement (strenghten your calves).

Were you suppose to be standing up like that in the canter?
samagirl89 4 years ago
No, like I said in the previous response, I got the classes backwards. You can do a 3 point for the hunter class, but not for eq.
