  • @Mrenforcer78 You could check the relay to be sure that the line voltage is on the common terminal and the load voltage is set up on the Normally Open terminal. If it is an you're getting continuity between the terminals when the system is off then the relay is bad, as in stuck in the closed position.

  • how do i download these videos, i cant find anything that lets me download. Can anyone help me

  • @jasons1231 My videos are only available to stream on youtube.

  • Safety first! Don't put your hands in the cabinet until you verify no voltage even with the breaker or disconnect off. Also discharge you caps. I can give prime examples of disconnects not opening with the lever down! I've been cap bit a time or two also. Make a habit of keeping your hands off uninsulated parts of your tools even with dead circuits.

  • I HAVE A HEAT PUMP BUT THE HEAT WORKS AND MY AC DOESNT WORK. THE MOTOR OUTSIDE DOESNT WORK BUT IT HAS POWER. CAN IT BE THAT I HAVE A LEAK IN THE COIL AND CAN I FIX THE COIL

  • @mzkan82 If the outdoor motor doesn't work then you might want to replace it first.

  • thanhs dr.z i learned more watching your videos, than in school, keep up the videos ps start your own school

  • @blac704 Thanks for watching.

  • @anruiz85. check the amp draw , and compare it to the data plate. might be going off on internal overload. replace motor.

  • Wrong! you must pull the leads off the relay. Because your relay may be shorted to ground, there for giving you continuity to ground. You dont want to replace a blower motor when your problem is the relay!

  • hi i have a question why is the blower for a air handler turning off after been working for a few minutes

  • @anruiz85 The blower motor will cycle on and off when you have the fan setting on the thermostat to the on position.

  • Hello Dr. Z,

From what I gathered Resistance to ground is bad. Is it considered a short? Can you do another test to check for open circut in the windings of the blower motor? If there was an open though the motor wouldn't work. Im kind of thinking aloud. That is why he could smell plastic burning and breaker triping is probably because of a dead short in the circut. You do a good job on your video's. You should show an example of a very curtious tech and what to do when you arrive at the door

  • @woodstockslim Yes, any ohms from windings to ground is a bad thing and is considered to be a short to ground.

  • Hi DrZarkloff I want to thank you for your advice and the time you're taking for doing all these videos. My question is. When the a/c kicks on it smells like the heater kicked on and this happens for a few seconds then goes away. I keep thinking is the thermostat, can I get your advice on that?

  • @yoropro You might want to check to see if the heat strips are energising at start up.

  • my run capacitor is bad and so rusty that i cant tell what size it is how can i find out what size i need. thanks .

  • @dustydog118 The info should be on the label on the motor.

  • hi im a new student of HVAC and i have a cuestion maybe you can help me, whats the best for a domestic air handler a sleeve-bearing motor or a ball bearing motor for the same application? i think one is not good because of posible noise problem but im not sure thank you

  • @alfebre1 A motor with ball bearings is better than one with sleeve bearings.

  • hi DrZarkloff, I have problem w/ air handling system. the fan does not run. when checking the circuit breaker for air handling it tripped, I reset it but it trips again in less than 5 seconds. do you have any ideas what cause the breaker tripped. I went to the attic and inspected the control board, but could not figure out where the short circuit occurred. please help

  • @teachmebetter I'd suspect the blower motor to be short to ground.

  • @DrZarkloff , thanks for your advice. you're right. the blower motor is the problem. I don't know how the motor shaft poked through the back cover of motor. I believe the ac system installed less than 4 years ago b/c the house is built around 2006.

  • it is the correct replacement capacitor

  • i replaced a burntout evaporator motor and the burntout control board now the new motor keeps overheating HELP ME PLEASE

  • @cordaodeazul Did you replace the run capacitor with the correct mfd rating?

  • hi doctor can u show me how to install the high pressure switch?

  • hi doctor how do i install a high pressure switch?

  • DrZarkloff IS DA MAN!!!!!

  • i need dr z to visit me and fix stuff lol

  • Thanks. I wish that I could be a traveling a/c tech.

  • Hey Dr. Z got a question for you. When you first started as a tech were you totally lost at first? and, How long did it take you to gain confidence and not get help from some one else?

  • Yes, I was very overwhelmed the first time I walked into the air conditioning classroom. I wondered if I had bitten off a little more that I could chew. The instructor told me to never be afraid to dig into a broken system. It's already broken; I can only make it better.

I was a quick study. I felt right at home with residential systems after the first year. Commercial systems weren't too much of a jump from there.

  • cool video its awesome you help people in need! hey are you gettin much work? we are really busy with no cools here in az! love it

  • davidotypes,

Check the transformer for primary-line and secondary-load voltage.

  • I came across a condencer yesterday when the unit turned on it sounded like metal on metal in the compressor and when i touched the copper set lines the shocked me. it started to rain and I left it alone. I have never seen this before.

  • It sounds like you need to be sure that the condensing unit is grounded.

  • what if the blower motor, as well as the condensor are not working?

  • I would check all power sources first, the breaker, then make sure its plugged in or wired in. check make sure the door is on right some have a switch behind the door. then check if you have a condensate pump if its full and not pumping the float inside will cut off unit so it doesnt flood. after checkin those i would call a reputable HVAC company. not your brother in law or a cousin. lol

  • Thanks for the reply! I checked all per your recomendations, and all power is good. Both are still not powering on. Can it possibly be a bad relay or transformer? I have both in the same junntion box.

  • Comment removed

  • maybe you can check if you got 24v going to the unit from the thermostat? well hope it is fixed by now? if so, what was wrong with it?

  • Yes, it's up ans running! You actually nailed it, it was in fact the transformer not providing the 24v. I found one on ebay for 13 bucks, pretty cheap repair if you ask me.

  • He should check out the capacitor, if it's weak the motor won't run.

    Check:

    1) Power to the unit's cabinet

    2) Make sure the Tstat is calling for cool/heat

    3) Capacitor

    4) With power off make sure the fan spins and isn't seized

    5) Power in and out of any board

    6) Power to the fan itself

    7) Is the fan trying to start (amp draw check)

    Phoenix, Arizona

  • What technician doesn't carry a multi-meter? What a hack! Great video Dr Z!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • good vid but i think they should not be playing with that.

  • Thanks. He at least knows to turn off the power so at least he won't get shocked.

  • yer but what happens when he turns the power back on? lots of fire.lol

  • some one needs a shave:)

  • That's me on a long weekend.

  • ok :)
