  • People, this is art. Not politics. Everybody is tight, grooving and it sounds very good. Enjoy it!

  • People are crazy. This is awesome. Gonzalo is incredible. Great arrangement, great playing, sweet groove....what do you people want, freekin' elevator music?

  • This is cool but check out Gonzalo with his usual-suspect cuban players - Philipe Cabrera, Julio Barreto, Horacio -el negro- Hernandez, etc, etc.

That's where his cuban-jazz really takes shape and is fully realized.

  • On the longest track from Rubalcaba's Avatar CD, the band stretches out for a 12-minute exploration of Yosvany Terry's composition "This Is it." The harmonic approach is mostly modal, with the solos taking wing over the throbbing vamp of bassist Matt Brewer, who periodically jumps into fast swing time but never settles into any rhythm long enough to let the soloists get complacent. The result is an agitated, jittery performance that throws off lots of sparks.

  • Beautiful stuff... this is what is all about you guys! if you like this check a band that I found not long ago from NYC... search for Afromantra Azul Infinito... the drummer is the composer and his music is really cool and the band is smoking! take care, Raul.

  • whose the drummer

  • bass play is a beast

  • This is very easy to listen to. I dont know what you guys are talking about

  • @shawn195 agree, easy listening:) they guys below just dont have a trained enough ear:)

  • @diegohostettler - typically pompous reply from a self important 'musician' who cant understand why anyone would have different musical taste to his :) :) :) :)

  • i wish there was a way you can find which CD this selection is on.

  • like this one from when he was like 18!

    GONZALO RUBALCABA-COMIENZO

  • Comment removed

  • The do fine but check him out when he's playing with Cubanos.

  • bueno

  • maestro gonzalo... you´re the best!!!!

  • It seems that BAJPiano does not know anything about music....

  • Nice

  • Yeah BAJPiano! Do it better. I am sure you can!

  • @matimike well the guy is entitled to his opinion ! - I mean obviously theyre all highly skilled, highly talented, accomplished and excellent musicians....BUT.....I also do find this particular tune a bit boring too, but again thats just my opinion..and Im a HUGE jazz fan at that !!

  • @DonkeyMagnet99

Again this modern progressive jazz .... give the CD a listen or two or three ...

  • @emon55 yeah I know it is and I like a lot of 'modern progressive jazz' too as you call it - just dont like this tune

same with wayne shorter's quartet - cant stand any of it - cant listen to any of it - dont enjoy it AT ALL !!!! - but early Wayne - thats a different story - love it !!!...and his band members I love Brian Blades Fellowship Band and really enjoy the Danilo Perez Trio - but in Waynes quartet - just find the overall sound painful to listen to

  • @DonkeyMagnet99

I hear you ... the Cd version is more dynamic.

RE: Wayne Shorter quintet - I agree ... too much happening there. Give his Alegria a listen. much more Wayne SHorter than the quintet is.

  • @DonkeyMagnet99 I've never heard of anyone not liking Wayne's Quartet, though I do suppose it is music for musicians.

  • @Bebopopotamus - just move your eyes a little down this page - emon55 doesnt like it either - and I am/was a musician

  • @DonkeyMagnet99 What do you find so hard to listen t about these groups?

  • @Bebopopotamus - I really dont find this tune 'hard to listen to' - just dont particularly enjoy it - no reflection on the obviously extremely high calibre musicians - the soloing doesnt move me much either - just not to my taste - dont find myself nodding my head or tapping my feet - I'd say the same thing about the recent/current wayne shorter qtet too - dont really understand why its such a big deal NOT to be into this ?!

    What DO I like ? - B Marsalis qtet, K Garrett qtet.......

  • @Bebopopotamus ...... J Redman qtet (especially when he had Mehldau & Blade- absolutely phenomenal band), Brian Blade Fellowship, Jaleel Shaw, W Weiskopf, SF Jazz Collctv, Ralph Peterson, Jeremy Pelt, and from 50s/ 60s - Miles, Trane, Jazz Mssgers, Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, Sam rivers, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy, Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Chick Corea, Monk......... am sure I've missed a lot out but this should give you some idea

  • I find this really boring.

  • @BAJPiano This very modern progressive jazz and sometimes takes a listen or two before one can understand what's happening.

  • @BAJPiano Then you aren't really listening to it.
