Copyrights suck, but they are there for a reason. I'm not siding with WGM or you. I'm just taking both sides into account. Unfortunately just because a video credits the artist does not mean they are free and clear of copyright infringement. I've had quite a bit of success with just emailing people/labels and saying "Hey I want to use___song for this video and here's what its for" I've gotten quite a few no's or sure it will be $__, but I've gotten a few yes' too and for free.

Carmen Sandiego, WMG muted it because the theme was a true theme, which I never knew until a source had told me, which is explained in this video. This is true that it's old news, though I was helped spread the word about the bad news at the time.

But to answer your question, you'd have to ask WMG since I'm in no way, shape or form associated with them.

OK, after rewatching this, a few more things:

1. Earth? is a completely different show that had nothing to do with the World gameshow. Heck, Earth wasn't even a gameshow! It was a cartoon!

2. I double-checked Rockapella's Wikipedia article again and I found some evidence that proves that WMG is full of crap. None of the three record labels that WITWICS' theme was released under are in any way affiliated with WMG, nor are Rockapella's two other record labels that don't have the rights to it.

Indeed; they do not own any rights to Rockapella's music. WMG is just trying to justify their actions by surprising people with the information that the song is owned by a real group.

What they don't tell you is that Rockapella's material is not in any part owned by WMG and that Rockapella could care less about people posting videos of them on a kids program from decades ago. They have done many jingles over the years in which they relinquish all rights to their material. They don't care.

If WITWICS ever did return to PBS, or if PBS were to establish a classic PBS Kids channel with WITWICS and many other classic shows from my childhood, I would indeed be a very happy girl. It's a shame how PBS caters to very young kids nowadays, and their current lineup pales in comparison to their glory days of the 80s and 90s (and before that, though I wasn't born yet). When I first heard about the whole WITWICS theme song dispute, I was shocked. After spending the last 2 years watching a lot of episodes of this truly amazing series, WMG just had to step in and ruin everything just because they own (or at least think they own) the incredibly addictive theme song.

I have also been bitten by this bug.

THREE of my videos have been claimed by WMG, and ONE video I own the CD which the track came off of. This is after one year of hosting the video, and I HAVE NOT been paid anything to make or host the videos in the first place.

One was for a 30 second pause in a game play video, One for a Music Video in a game, and one for three songs used for a clan event in the same game.

Those three videos have been deleted on my behalf, and I will fight to the end!
