That is called a vertigo shot. You can search for professional examples on youtube.

Basically, it is done by moving the camera away from the subject while zooming in on it at the same rate. The perspective shifts and creates a surreal look. We can't do it very well because we're using a hand-held camcorder that does not have a precise zoom control.
