I'm a Norwegian citizen and want to apologize for my governments lack of responsibility in this matter, and for a greedy billion-dollar industry that just thinking raw profit and take no measures to develop methods according to preserve a healthy environmental balance.
Open-net ocean farmed salmon harms wild salmon and wildlife such as orca that depend upon wild salmon for food. It also reduces surrounding ocean water quality. And, farmed salmon has been found to contain high levels of contaminants such as PCBs and PBDEs that are harmful to humans. We support harvesting sustainable seafood and farmed salmon is not sustainable.
the salmon farms, I stopped ordering salmon in restaurants because 95% of
them will serve you the cheaper, inferior,
unhealthy farmed variety. when You
purchase fresh salmon in a market it is
easy to distinguish between wild (vibrant
dark reddish orange) & the farmed (pale orange). the farmed salmon actually receive cartenoid supplements to turn their flesh orange. If they did not do this
I say the same as Arild below here - pressure the Norwegian government on this matter, as it is a disgrace. Our minister of fishery is an owner (her family as far as I know) of a large fish farm in Norway.
great work. i really hope the goverment in norwaay does something about this. Norway is one of the richest countries in the world, and they have no problem affording it, but some people in other contries do, and this is a discrace to take anything from them. right now i feel a little worse about livingg in Norway
Many years ago when I toured a fish farm near Campbell River I was disgusted by what I saw. I always remember what my father said to me as a child 50 years ago- the wild Pacific salmon will be gone in your lifetime.
While this is just an excerpt from the film , it seems somewhat one sided. I would like to hear from the industry side to make a fair judgement on this topic.

the flesh would be almost a greyish color.

Damien Gillis strikes again. Another fabulous piece of film advocacy.

The problem is the same as always, the power the short term profit has over the future.

This is an example of the kind of truth we need to be hearing. Please pass this information on to your friends and family.

Good video, heard about it through the facebook group. Hopefully it'll spread the word. Thanks for including us in the Atlantic as well!
