I always loved how NES sound effects were done. Since the 8-bit system had such limited sound hardware, just about every sound effect in every game was a clever use of pitches. There's a much easier (and more accurate) way to get the proper transcriptions of ANY sound effect from an NES game though - get the NSF music/sound file for that game, use a NSF2MIDI converter to convert each desired SFX to midi, and read the MIDI notes in a sequencer.
Great video and killer rendition of the SMB theme!
That's pretty interesting. I never even thought that those sound effects would actually be something indescribable. I just thought they were.... Sound effects...
@beatchef Or the end of the level piano run is just the "Mario getting a mushroom" sound effect slowed down like crazy. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH...
Thanks! Quite simple, never would have thought that the sound at 0:40 comes from a piano. But it's more fun trying to play it in the actual, really sick tempo. ;)
w00terz. This looks like a great track, can't wait for it to show up. I predict Nintendo will have Jack do the soundtrack to the next game in the Mario series... or they will not be able to reach the warp zone.
Jack, you're my hero. VS4 has been the best album I've heard in a long time. Every time I listen to it, I have a new favorite track. Every song on there is absolutely brilliant. Thanks for being so awesome.
AHA!!!! SO GREAT!! So that's how!

How is the video corresponding to the speed up if you are doing the audio in Pro Tools and the Video in FCP?
MichaelCampionMusic 11 months ago
@MichaelCampionMusic it's basically the same. 400% in audio is 400% in video. you just have to sync it up.
