This was by far one of the easiest ways to remove a background, however you so lost me at the point where you deleted the BG. I blinked and the BG was is a the alpha channel mode so I backed up but realized that you had failed to explain that part =(...

@SuchaCaligrrl after you have the path selected, simply go to edit and cut...everything else is gone.

after you invert your selection, go to your layers and right click the layer, select "add alpha channel" then hit delete to get a transparent bg.
