  • my girlfriend googled "drol" out of boredom. In our language means "turd".

  • Drol and Bandits. Aik Beng was the man.

  • Oh WOW. Been a while since i've seen this game, and the first time ive seen it in color.

  • If you know how the graphics and sound on an Apple ][+ work, it's a miracle that games like this could even be accomplished. There was no dedicated graphic or sound chip like on the C64, everything had to go through the CPU, pixel for pixel. The sound was solely created by switching the speaker on and off in intervals.

  • @ninamaya

This is nothing, actually. You should check out Castle Wolfenstein or Bilestoad on the Apple II. Wolfenstein had graphics and digitized sound. The digitized sound had a lot of static, but it sounded like discernable speech. Bilestoad had some impressive sound (for the technology) and complex sprite graphics. I always wondered why the Apple got some of the best games, since it had the worst hardware support. Popularity had something to do with it, I'm sure.

  • Icame so close getting level 3 done so I could see the 3rd cartoon. Was at the door and a leaping seahorse came out.

  • there were only three levels and when you got through those three the game was so hard it was virtually impossible to finish the fourth (a repeat of level 1)

  • Talk about a flashback.. I loved this game. Must find an emulator :)

  • Oh! How I used to play Droll on my green monitor!

I do remember spending nights playing Mask of the Sun by Broderbund as well...

  • Muito massa...joguei muito isso no meu Tk3000 na década de 80 - 90.

  • Thanks for posting, played this game a lot back in the day but completely forgot the name, just stumbled across this - brings back memories!

  • This game looked better on a green monochrome monitor.

  • This game is called Drol? It means turd, in dutch...

  • Much of my early childhood was spent playing this while listening to Devo "Time out for fun" :)

  • i remember playing this game way too much!

  • Great game or...just nostalgic memories

  • thanks so much for posting this. I was looking for hours at different IIc videos trying to find this game.... I was spelling it droll.. love how the sound memories come flooding back....

  • Thanks for posting this! I wasted a good part of my young life playing this game.

  • Ii can't stand people who disable ratings.

  • Alright. I enabled ratings on this one. A lot of the videos I put up are just trying to show bits of old games. Ratings didn't seem to fit well, because I wasn't trying hard to win them or anything.

  • I understand that, but it doesn't seem right when people stifle judgement of their videos. Just look at the stuff by VideoBrinquedo.

Anyway, videos like this tend to average between four and five stars.

  • i used to play this game in my apple II. If i remember correctly there were 4 unique stages and after you finished them you started all over again but with monsters moving faster, more monsters etc. The difficult part was at the end (every 4th stage) where you had to get at the bottom row to escape but there were some carnivorous plants at the entry points! Only one entry point was safe.

  • There were actually only 3 stages. The first stage involved saving the daughter and the turtle, the second stage was the son and an alligator, and the third stage involved going to the mother at the bottom right row.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how many "levels" there are. I know that the game simply continues with each stage getting harder. But after each 3rd stage, does the game simply continues on and on, or is there an ending?

  • Wasn't there a fourth stage with swords, knives and other stuff chasing you? Anyway, I'll try to upload a video of my own when i have the time.

  • This reminds me of Mappy very much.

  • What I meant was, after every third stage, you see the mother hugging the boy and girl before the witchdoctor removes them from the screen. At that point, there are some comments such as FANTASTIC - BUT YOUR PROBLEMS AREN'T OVER.

  • How many levels? I don't know. I didn't see comments between levels. Don't know where you got that.

  • How many levels were in this game?

And can you provide the comments that were shown at the end of every level?
