  • I don't get it. I thought there was no such term of "Black Metal" in the early 80s. I know Black Metal history but I was always confused by this. Besides getting the name from the Venom album, who really coined the genre name?

  • @kathartic713 its tough to say, black metal really became a legit genre in peoples eyes in the 90s but everything from black sabbath to mercyful fate/king diamond. I guess bands like Bathory would be the first legit black metal band and also made viking metal lol.

  • @qu7aker When it became a legit genre was when it started dying... R.I.P. black metal. It was best in the early to mid 80s... Ok, was nice in late 80s and also early 90s. And then there are a very few bands who actually make good black metal after that. BLACK SABBATH??? They were never considered black metal. They didn't have an evil image. They were basically pot smoking acid dropping hippies on a foundation of jazz, soul and blues. Mercyful Fate yeah!!!

  • @cometothesabbat Thats opinion based and yes Black sabbath created the evil sound you hear in black metal and there lyrics and imagery also helped like having burning upsidedown crosses.

  • @qu7aker Nobody except you ever saw Black Sabbath as black metal. They're probably my favourite band in the world but they ain't black metal, and nobody except you think they are. Their lyrics are usually more christian than satanic and they have used a lot more regular crosses than upside down ones.

  • @qu7aker I think Venom was the first metal band to have this dark and satanic image and lyrics. Maybe. They were like Satan's children or something. Black Sabbath were more like children of the universe. They never sung about being in league with Satan, that's for sure.

  • @cometothesabbat But you cant deny the fact that sabbath created metal including black metal as well. Im not saying there black metal but they made the blueprints of what is to become black metal. Take there song black sabbath and speed it up and you get a black metal song. regardless venom, bathory, hellhammer/celtic frost, mercyful fate/king diamond, and mayhem are what started real black metal.

  • @qu7aker Yes I agree. Venom is the first real black metal in my opinion, because they were "in league with Satan", but Black Sabbath is the most important band in the early evolution of metal.

  • @kathartic713 There was term of Black Metal... from pretty early in the 80s, but it was no fixed scene. Black Metal was just a name put on any band who played dark, evil, satanic stuff, whether it was heavy, thrash, speed or death. Actually the term black metal existed before death metal. Read "Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries", it's full of mention of bm from early to mid 80s.

  • Sattanist

  • Haha. The stuff he says about Hellhammer. It's funny that he put out a book a few years ago where he talks about how embarrassed he is of Hellhammer, and as soon as all these people started getting into old Hellhammer and Celtic Frost he puts out a book talking about how they were the fucking best. You can tell even here that he's trying to push the band into the mainstream. Cold Lake was inevitable. Regardless, Nothing beats Hellhammer/Celtic Frost from Death Fiend to Into the Pandemonium.

  • Satinism? The worship of the material Satin?

  • Left Fag hand!!!

  • God he's funny to listen to...

  • Sartan-ism. hahahaha :D

  • Metal A Headbanger's Journey "Black Metal" :P

  • Very poor aud and vid quality. I think I'd get more out of ARE YOU MORBID the autobiography. Tom Fischer is a very good writer himself, when you read his liner notes. He, himself use the other CELTIC, with a "C" rather then "K" though there's debate that both are correct. I like it more with a "C" which sounds like Cirrus", etc.

  • Wonder what show this is? They never show Metal on our UK TV now. I doubt they even show 'real' metal on SKY.

  • @maidenslayer More then the USA Craptacular FTV! hahaha (MTV) I got a tape of Much Music out of Canada from Sat back in the late 1980s, that was far better content

  • i love how he says satanism

  • @meslayerdeth Sounds like "Satinism" to me lol.

  • Hating cliches is now cliche'

  • lastima la caspiada de celtic.... pero el buen material es el q dura para toda la vida!! "morbid mega therion"

  • Morbid tales is basically what got the ball rolling for me absolutely fascinated buy these guys .I rember when i bought this album,(coming home from rehab) the lyrics were inside it was so cool."GILLES DE-RAIS PERVERTED SON,HOLY MAN". I WATCHED A VIDEO AND TOM STATED HE WAS O.K. WITH PEOPLE PRONOUNCING THE NAME EITHER KELTIC FROST OR CELTIC FROST, I ALWAYS PRONOUNCED IT CELTIC.TOM DEFINITELY NEEDS TO PUT OUT A DVD OF HELLHAMMER AND CELTIC FROST CAREER.
