@LynaMahariel None of the marriages were secure though. If it was between Mary and Elizabeth only Mary could have easily destroyed Elizabeth's claim because her legitimacy was shaky. Even when Elizabeth was queen there were so many women who claimed the throne because they insisted she was a bastard.

Even without the Pope, monarchs were not entitled to become the heads of their own churches, and arbitrarily prescribe their own sacramental laws. When the Byzantine Empire broke with Rome in 1054, the Eastern Orthodox Church still empowered its clergy, not its monarchs, to do such things as a result of the Apostolic Succession. Monarchs were not ordained clergy, thus, Henry had no right to dissolve his first marriage and personally authorize five more. Catherine was indeed his one true wife.

It is true, Anne boleyn was never truly queen of England and neither were any of Henry's other "wives". They were his playthings, nothing more. Also, Anne and Henry's marriage was never valid. None of Henry's marriages were really valid except his marriage to Katherine of Aragon. Katherine of Aragon was the only true queen of England. When she died, the queen of England died. PERIOD. The only true heir to the throne of England was Mary.

@28804ecorrell I agree a 100% with you, I so do, sadly everthing and a lote of people did not want Mary as Queen, and when she did she was old, she had a hard life, a life Elizebeth never experianced, I so believe that Marry T is truly a misunderstood Queen, if The Abasider of France had lived long enough to see Mary as Queen, I 100% believe things would be diffent, for her.

@28804ecorrell Henry abolished a church, and made a new one just to marry Anne, making his church- Protestant- the Church of England. Therefore, they were all Queens of England. Unless he never created a new branch of the church. Elizabeth, Edward, and Mary all had legitimate claim to the throne.

@28804ecorrell you could say that anne boleyn's marriage wasn't valid because henry was married at the time, and at a push anne of cleves' wasn't because she was supposedly precontracted to someone else, and katherine howard because she had sex out of wedlock before she married henry, but why would jane seymour's marriage not count as valid? or katherine parr? edward was a perfectly fine heir to the throne

That fact that Mary refused to recognise Anne made her even popular! I guess Anne realised she needs Mary in order to be more popular with the English.
