the lady who runs the shelter said that someone had dropped off two litters of kittens that morning and asked if I wanted one they were out of room.

There will always be show, work, competition and stray dogs.

I worked voluntarily in an animals shelter, I never saw any cat being killed but I heard that cats are "rescued" from other countries by flying them to Germany. 2 points here: There are not enough suffering cats in Germany so they have to import it from other countries and they try to pressure people morally. She had like most breeded cats genetically inherited diseases, she had lots of them: Polycystic kidney disease (PKD), Hip dysplasia which caused arthritis and she had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), the most common heart disease seen in pedigree cats bought from "professinal" breeders.

Your cat is not going to know whether or not it has testicles or not. In fact, a person probably wouldn't be able to tell if a cat has testicles or not. Also, it's not mutilation. It's a simple operation that takes perhaps 5 minutes at the most. Your cat wont even know he was out.

Also, neutering a healthy animal does make him any less healthy. It's pretty much been proven to improve their health.
