goldsmith watered down his own score with 5 with first contact being the only decent alternative scored tng movie. i also hated them not using straight lasers for phasers, really stupid the white lasers in the new effects tos episodes as well. star trek needs to return to gene's version or suffer the wrath of khan and go bodly where no one over 25 wants to watch star trek anymore. star trek used to be loved by all ages not made for 18-25 non star trek fans.

Every 10-20 mins somebody gets shot in the face,do some drugs while trying to maintain a good morale compass in a world of chaos. @kr192101 The difference between the new Uhura and the old is the new used sex and insults to get her way with men and her superiors (very stereo typical TV/Movie woman of the 60's-70's). The OLD Uhura (Nichel Nichols) used her brains and talent to get ahead, something rarely seen in movies and TV, it was this that made her a "hottie". As far as the shows are concerned I own TOS & TNG. I like Voyager & DS9 as a distraction, but I hate Enterprise (I call it “Rentaprize”)!
the choice to criticize the style or visual presentation (lens flares, shaky cam, zoom-in shots, etc) is rather weak. these are just superficial choices the jj abrams team came up with to make stuff "fresh" and accessible to the audience.
the problems to focus on are the things like plot, the classic star trek morality issues , acting, script, etc and most of all the NOT-SURE-WHETHER-TO-MAKE-A-REBOOT-OR-REMAKE conflict, which i think sums up most of the complaints of fans of star trek.

The thing is, you've missed the only bad point about this movie, they've completely missed the fact that Start Trek was always actually about modern day Earth, set to a futuristic setting. In this movie, they simply tell a story, a very good story, but none the less, there was no underlying meaning.
The skinhead Romulans were a great idea. Romulans were basically Mods in Space (they likely wear earth tone pullovers and brogues when off duty), so it figurted that working class Romulans (at lets be honest Nimo was essentially a Rig Worker) are skinheads.

Example of good new shows White Collar, and Castle; none of these shows have explosions in every episode. A classic sci-fi shows that did not have explosions in every episode are Twilight Zone, Babylon 5, and Quantum Leap. Just because it lacks explosions does not make it a bad show.

@au25 Sorry I should have said Space Soap Operas with Explosions. In the 1960’s-1980’s TV shows were made so that each episode could be enjoyed by new comers. Star Trek is about what makes humanity; the characters are just along for the ride. Also the “random red shirt guy” is a Trek joke. Most were not just red shirts, they had names. It may have been random for the viewers but not for Captain Kirk. As for TNG little kids would not understand the complexes of the show.

Gordi was based on a real handicap man who learned to use his disability to improve his life. As for The Holodeck, it's explained in the first episode by Data "Much of it is real" If the safety protocols are off than the computer makes real bullets and real guns held by force field holograms controlled by the computer's program. Unlike Data the computer has no moral programs.

Also the Borg don't "jam phasers", they block them with shields and the phasers do work most of the time. Sorry but this movie really did Suck. It put Sci Fi movie making back 70 years. The only difference between "Flash Gordon’s" bad cliff hangers and the action in this movie is you don’t have to wait a week to see how the writers forget what they wrote for the last scene.

They turned the great values of Star Trek into a teenage romance drama on Space with bad directing, storyline and acting. This movie was NEVER intended for Trekkies, and it went out to be just like that, not a Trek movie. And they have nothing to build on in the future other than more timelines, and stealing/going back to want Gene's did, distorting it because they cannot invent something original by themselves.
It's really tearing me apart to see what they have done to Star Trek, they ruined a part of my history. I just can't begin to describe how much I hate Abrams, Paramount and all the stupid twilight teenagers who know nothing about Star Trek and claim that this movie is it. One, when Nero was thrown back in time, all he had to do was TELL his PEOPLE about the Supernova. 25 years later = FIXED. That's how LAME this movie is. You can unwind the "plot" in one stroke.

Here is an idea for the next film. A deadly form of tribbls that can live in space and move at warp speed attacks federation planets. Mean while Uhura and Spock are having martial problems. Uhura gets bit by a tribble and starts to mutate and the only cure is whale barf from the blue whale. It turns out whales are tribbles natural predators and are released in the galaxy saving the day. There have been bad trek movies that doesnt mean XI is good theres all kinds of things wrong with writing its poorly written for example Nero goes back in time to get revenge on spock for not saving his planet instead of goin back and saving the planet, they shoot kirk onto what appears to be hoth and runs into a hoth wompa and future spock, vulcans are emotional and prejudice, Bones character relies strictly on the fact that you've seen the series same with Ohura

the choice to criticize the style or visual presentation (lens flares, shaky cam, zoom-in shots, etc) is rather weak. these are just superficial choices the jj abrams team came up with to make stuff "fresh" and accessible to the audience.
the problems to focus on are the things like plot, the classic star trek morality issues , acting, script, etc and most of all the NOT-SURE-WHETHER-TO-MAKE-A-REBOOT-OR-REMAKE conflict, which i think sums up most of the complaints of fans of star trek.

Example of good new shows White Collar, and Castle; none of these shows have explosions in every episode. A classic sci-fi shows that did not have explosions in every episode are Twilight Zone, Babylon 5, and Quantum Leap. Just because it lacks explosions does not make it a bad show.

@au25 Sorry I should have said Space Soap Operas with Explosions. In the 1960’s-1980’s TV shows were made so that each episode could be enjoyed by new comers. Star Trek is about what makes humanity; the characters are just along for the ride. Also the “random red shirt guy” is a Trek joke. Most were not just red shirts, they had names. It may have been random for the viewers but not for Captain Kirk. As for TNG little kids would not understand the complexes of the show.

Gordi was based on a real handicap man who learned to use his disability to improve his life. As for The Holodeck, it's explained in the first episode by Data "Much of it is real" If the safety protocols are off than the computer makes real bullets and real guns held by force field holograms controlled by the computer's program. Unlike Data the computer has no moral programs.

Also the Borg don't "jam phasers", they block them with shields and the phasers do work most of the time. Sorry but this movie really did Suck. It put Sci Fi movie making back 70 years. The only difference between "Flash Gordon’s" bad cliff hangers and the action in this movie is you don’t have to wait a week to see how the writers forget what they wrote for the last scene.

They turned the great values of Star Trek into a teenage romance drama on Space with bad directing, storyline and acting. This movie was NEVER intended for Trekkies, and it went out to be just like that, not a Trek movie. And they have nothing to build on in the future other than more timelines, and stealing/going back to want Gene's did, distorting it because they cannot invent something original by themselves.

One, when Nero was thrown back in time, all he had to do was TELL his PEOPLE about the Supernova. 25 years later = FIXED. That's how LAME this movie is. You can unwind the "plot" in one stroke.

I just have to say: F**k JJ Abrams (x100). I went to Wil Wheaton's page about how "Star Trek 11" was going to suck before deciding to watch this piece of excrement. He was 100% right. Fortunately, I didn't spend a dime on it. This was the first Trek movie that was actually painful for me to watch. This Man murdered every single thing that is "Star Trek": Deep, thoughtful plotlines, life lessons, overcoming adversity in the end, and so on.

the big reason reboot suck and sequels fail isnt the actors or story. its the music. the music to this, terminator after 2, the bond series after moore, superman all sucked is they removed the great music that made thier franchises great. Star trek needs to follow star trek tng tv show and use the music to star trek 2.
