Tralasciando il periodo post zoo tv fino al post Popmart, in cui il cantante ha risentito delle conseguenze di una patologia, oggi la sua voce è meno potente di quella del periodo relativo agli '80, ma ne ha guadagnato in duttilità ed elasticitàa: basti vedere le note alte che riesce a prendere e mantenere nelle esecuzioni live come, ad esempio, Mysterious Ways, Miss Sarajevo, One (la parte finale) e all because of you.

All of your theories could play their parts in why his voice sounds how it does, but I think the more obvious reason for his sound here is poor vocal technique. He strains an obscene amount. This kind of poor technique is noticable in many singers though, Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Brian Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, along with many, many others. Not to say they aren't great singers, they definitely are, but their technique is deplorable. Anyway, I love U2!

Bonos voice is not so strong anymore because he smoke and he smoked a lot in the 90s because he wanted to have a darker voice. His voice is not so strong in this consert because it was a long and non stop tour. After that one person in Edges familiy got sick så they rested few months. After that Bono had a veeeerry strong and good voice.

U2kie - I agree with your comment I think that heat is a factor in his voice no question, compare Brazil to that off milan or America were the heat is not as severe he is hitting the high notes. Also I am sure that being in south American he was sampling he local produce that could be another reason for the voice. Bono is generally fantastic live to say the least the band in all the brazil previews I have seen have been amazing as usual I think that the dry heat of Sao Paulo was a major factor.
