  • I'm really glad I just searched "hammer dulcimer" and found this. legit as hell

  • lmao what the fuck is wrong with the dude at 1:50

  • h o l y s h i t . wow. incredible.

  • could use a bit of tempo control. It was nice at the beginning, but it got a bit hectic later in the preformance. Speed isnt everything. I hope this is taken as constructive critisism and not an insult

  • @existingusername823 you ignorant fuck. You don't like change in your pathetic sedate life? :( aww well fuck you, get out there and learn about shit you have no clue about because as you are... you're a fucking ignorant prick. Embrace change, most of the people there were impressed by the skill and sleight of hand, you're just a douche who might be good at shit that everyone is already good at. Move out of your comfort zone, idiot. That is what life is.

  • unbelievable.... incredible..... I could think of superlatives to describe this but this is just purely wonderful. What a talent, superb control, not so many people play this but I've never heard it played with such passion and composure. I'd like to shake this dude by the hand, his playing is superb, maybe 3 notes wrong in the entire piece and when they're coming at 8 per second, that's no bad =P good on you mate. That has blown me away.

  • Hey awesome gift you have. Awesome song with lots of fire. Keep it up.

  • DUDE FILM THE GUY PLAYING YOU CRAPPING CAMERA MAN!

  • @kristinadamsfan heh yeah, crowd reaction could have taken a few seconds, not missed the entire first half of the piece :D

  • Played like an exercise and the audience seem bored stiff. If you want to see some enjoyable (and fast) playing try: Nicolas Senn - Czardas - 2011.

  • @leoseries57 its one thing backing a friend, but don't shit on others you fucking pleb.

  • @leoseries57 The audience was MESMERIZED you idiot.

  • @leoseries57 Ya the guy at 1:50 seemed really bored stiff....

  • This dude must've dumped all his points into dexterity.

  • 106 people were looking for hobbit porn...

  • Lovely music, but why the panning of the crowd? Takes away from the video personally.

  • 1:45 this guy gets it a little too much...

  • It's amazing how you can hear so many layers of melody, while it looks like random punching.

  • the camera man doesnt know anything about taping a guy playing

  • @pajenja I kind of like seeing how the crowd reacts to his playing. It doesn't detract from the video, it enhances it.

  • :51 he's like "Aww yeah shits about to get real"

  • Wow! Best ever

  • Episch!

This guy deserves playing amongst the old masters of the Alps.

  • 51 secs...one guy gets it

  • I like this performance better than the iTunes one.

  • Great!! I play the Persian hammered Dulcimer. the rules for playing the Persian type are very different. fingers should be stationary and wrist should move fast ,and you should feel the overall force with every part of your hand. I'm thinking about buying the American dulcimer and self learn how to play it with Persian method, and make more American friends as well.

    Peace.

  • that was an incredibly beautiful song.

  • Remember when you could watch a video without having to sit through a commercial

Remember when music videos were uploaded by users and not VEVO

Remember when all the info was to the right of the video

Remember you could rate a video 1-5 stars

Remember the famous yellow subscribe buttonRemember when the users controlled the site and now corporations?

    WE MISS THE OLD YOUTUBE!

Post this in every video and lets start a youtube revolution

    Thumbs up to keep TOP

  • @adamantane1985 I remember those good old days! HAHA!! It was awesome then!

  • @adamantane1985 Remember when internet websites were losing so much money they could barely provide their services any more?

  • @adamantane1985 Well if you don't like it, then put up the capital (human, financial, or otherwise) to start your own Google. Or do you believe you have a "right" to use other people's property? Look, I don't like the ads, but if Google doesn't make money, there isn't going to be a YouTube.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!

  • The people who disliked this didn't watch it all the way through.

  • Holy balls, this guy can play like a boss.

  • Holy. Cow.

  • no! what? oh my god

  • MARRY ME!

  • Fabulous playing Max Z-T~! 'Love that you play sub-melodies- a true dulcimer master. My favorite since 1st hearing Jamie Janover.

  • He looks like Paul Dano

  • 104 people have there thumbs up they're asses.

  • @HumanoidThe23rd "I never should have listened to that Dutch boy by the dike, and now I've got me finger stuck in me bum" -Beavis and Butt-Head reference

  • Awesomeness!

  • Interesting. The dude is clearly very, very good, but I have mixed feelings about the piece. The beginning section is quite beautiful, but at about the two minute mark when he speeds up it becomes difficult to clearly hear what's going on. I can still hear the basic pattern of the thing, but it sounds a bit busy. I have a hunch that it would be easier to hear 'properly' if he was using dampers. As it is it seems difficult to disentangle everything that's going on.

  • HOLY HELL!! my asshole exploded when i saw this video. sweet tunes broski

  • I would love to see anyone do that on a guitar rofl. Makes u respect some of those old time musicitians we never heard of don't it.

  • @gwiatss two hands > one hand

  • this is as fucking awesome as possible

  • wow...that was amazing, this guys has so much skill

  • Geez, I wonder what the peak NPS is in this song...

  • lol you guys, sitting here arguing about technicality. :V watch the video.

  • woah O.o

  • Too much man

  • That's the hottest hobbit I've ever seen. His skills leave the maiden moist and wanting. I raise my glass to you Max Zbiral Teller.

  • sounds a bit like something the band Yes would play

  • Fantastic. Always wanted a dulcimer. More so now. Cheers.

  • Absolutely incredible! I am speachless. You are not just talented young man, you are truly gifted. I have heard and seen some good performers...but...WOW. Post some more please.! We Canadian love music too....WOW.

  • not only crazy skills, but also a damn good song. Its sweet when he stops it then starts again.

  • woww max..!

    tat is incredible! :)

herd you 4 da 1st time...!

    awwwsssomme!

  • from a metronomic standpoint, its very dirty, the notes are not even, but it is still impressive, and keep your head up, it looks bad in a show

  • @MaskedJalapeno lets see you keep your head up and play something like that then!

  • @MaskedJalapeno the "dirtyness" that you speak of doesn't take away from his performance. Music isn't always about time, but expression and passion. He is very musical. Having his head up doesn't ruin anything....it's MUSICAL! I have been playing marimba for 15 years and i find it difficult to keep my head up constantly...looking down at the instrument is just part of it.

  • @iluvperkushun you are correct that music isn't always about time, but in a technical piece like this, it's necessary, i am also a percussionist of 9 years, and in all instances, I've been told by pit techs, band directors, college professors, private teachers, that keeping your head up is essential, keeping the head up, but looking down at the keys, or strings in this case, this problem is that the whole head is down, disabling all facial connection with the audience, which isn't musical at all

  • @MaskedJalapeno I think it's cool that you're also a percussionist. I have recently been fascinated with the hammered dulcimer because of it's likeness to keyboard percussion. You mentioned that you have had lots of teachers (pit techs, private teachers etc...)...Who have you studied with? What college did you attend? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just curious!

  • @MaskedJalapeno Also, keep in mind that this guy is a national champion. Despite the bad timing and not keeping his head up, he must be doing something right.

  • @iluvperkushun It's cool, I'm actually still in high school, but i have studied with Mark Ford, She-e Wu, Ney Rosauro, just to name a few, I am aspiring to go to either Central Florida, I connected really well with Jeff Moore, North Texas, or Michigan, I'm working on Rumble Strips by Stout

  • @MaskedJalapeno never seen anyone play the hammer dulcimer whit theire heads held up

  • @iluvperkushun bad timing?....it's a free piece man, no real tempo. and how could you keep your head up at all times when playing that fast? he is amazing.

  • @insidiousvertigo i was saying that it's okay that he keeps his head down. It doesn't take anything away from the performance.

  • @MaskedJalapeno

Miles Davis played with his back to the audience... Making or breaking the visual connection with the audience is a musical decision in it's own right. It makes no sense to say that one is less musical than the other. If you were taught to always make that connection, then that holds inside of the tradition that you are working in. I also noticed the dirtiness that you talked about, but I didn't think it detracted from the performance. Overall, your comments was interesting.

  • @MaskedJalapeno Yeah, you're a little too green to be commenting on a professional dulcimer player. In the future, I'd watch the comments unless you play it yourself. I have grown up in the music business and around hundreds of dulcimer players and sweetheart....it's not about looking at your audience. THAT would be musical theater with jazz hands. It's the feel of playing that ridiculously hard instrument and bringing it to life. This guy is brilliant and deservedly a National Champion.

  • from a metronomic standpoint, its very dirty, the notes are not even, but it is still impressive

  • LAJKÓ FÉLIX!!!

  • master! learn me!

  • whhooaaahhhh... holy shit haha

  • Kudos to you man for speedy hands and awesome skills on the dulcimer.

  • wow

  • Absolutely beautiful music played by such talent!

  • This is incredible! This guy is faster than the framerate of the video! Does he have extra sets of arms?

  • @MrRcaddict normal framerate is 24frames/sec ... so how many times he hit that thing in one sec to be off the framerate. you do the math. Amazing

  • The Great Grandfather of the Piano, I respect this instrument fully.

  • excellent!!!! and what a cutie ; )

  • FUCK whoever didn't like this guy! I'd like to see them try to do anywhere near as baller as him. I'm pretty sure they're just jealous dulcimer players.

  • I for one, could give a shit about the audience. A majority of people don't go to concerts to look at the audience, it's to see the performer! You and Comedy Central need to learn this fact >.<

  • -sighs- if you have to show the audience, wait til the performance is over.. and pan over the crowd as they applaud.... ...as you did at the end... -shifts eyes-....

  • n'importe quoi , faut penser a faire du cirque c mieux loooool

  • NINJA FAST

  • amazing!!!!

  • what i want to know is where do you find a teacher to give lessons for such a rare instrument lol

  • Did you have to pan across the whole audience.

Here is a tip for you. Take the camera put it on a tripod. Get the performer in shot hit record and leave the performer to speak for themselves.

  • @lumpybruisychickeny1 The performer had everyone's attention.

  • @davstromos Who cares! I want to watch the performance not the MF audience

  • Awesome!

I'd love to know how much on of these beautiful instruments costs.

  • @maccermacnab

    300-600 on up.

  • This guy's compositions sound more metal than anything else, especially extreme metal.

  • such a beautiful instrument, I don't understand why it isn't more popular!

  • @cintmint

Because it's not used in pop or rap...

I just think very few people have ever heard one played. How could one not otherwise be won over by its beauty?

  • that's so good it almost scares me. how the hell does he do that

  • he moves unnaturaly fast towards the end. really impressive.

  • Wow! Nice sounding instrument and real nice playing!

  • Absolutely magnificent.

  • WOW! I am completely flabbergasted by that young man's performance! That is fantastic! I just watched that vid again with my GF in Germany and I'm gonna watch it again with my son on Easter day. Fabulous!!!

  • Very cool!!! Beautiful and soulful too! Certainty beats the dickens out of anything one might hear on pop radio station today. Great job Max! Bravo!!!

  • awesome !!!

  • I can't believe there's a negative comment on this video. This is exquisite and highly advanced playing of the instrument. Maybe you gurus should post some of your talents and prove me wrong! GEEZ!

  • I think the song needs a few more notes!

    lol!!

Seriously though, its cool to see a young guy jamming on this instrument. Keeps it alive and he's obviously pushing it in directions that are unconventional for this instrument. Kudos to him!

  • I am just learning about this intrument. It sounds nice although it seems a little limited in what you can do with it in terms of melodies. Perhaps I will see this it not the case in time. As for the person in the video, that was very impressive. As for the person behind the camera, that was very poor. You wasted about a minute at the beginning showing audience reaction. People want to see the performer, not the audience other than maybe a few seconds to show how impressed they are.

  • cogitodubitoamo-You're a freakin' idiot! I just got done listening to "toni arpad, master of the hammered dulcimer", and, guess what? HE SUCKS!! He's the exact reason why I never used to like the hammered dulcimer in the first place! He plays like a Romanian gypsy! It wasn't until I saw Maxs' "apple juice" video along with "dizzi dulcimer" that I actually realized what an awesome and beautiful instrument the dulcimer truly is!

  • Hes in College?

  • I'm renting one of these next week for two months. I can't wait to start playing, I love the sound and Max is such an inspiration for up and coming HD players like myself

  • O.O

  • that was the shitttttt!!!!!!

  • You being an expert on playing this instrument, right?

  • Wow!!! That is some FAST playing!!

  • love the sound of it

  • To be honest with you guys, I don't care whether the instrument is out of date, or whatever, because the dulcimer, along with the violin and piano, are the most beautiful instruments in the world. Respect the dulcimer.

  • +1

Have a look for Yanni - great music!

  • @DragonerPhoenix EXORBITANTLY AGREED.

  • @DragonerPhoenix You forgot cello.

  • @DragonerPhoenix yeah, who gives a crap when an instrument was made? Some sounds are timeless. Go listen to a video of someone playing the Duduk (there's a great one off one of Yanni's live shows).

  • @DragonerPhoenix speak for yourself

  • @Damanik3 What does that even mean?

  • @DragonerPhoenix it means not everyone thinks the dulcimer is the most beautiful instrument. and personally i think violins sounds like piss

  • @Damanik3 Okay, that's your opinion. But all I have to say is, shut up, troll. :D

  • @DragonerPhoenix No such thing as an out of date instrument, only people who can't play them. The Dulcimer is beautiful!

  • @DragonerPhoenix dont forget the harp also. the hammered dulcimer, harp and shakuhachi are three of my favourite instruments

  • @DragonerPhoenix All instruments are beautiful. Except the harpsichord!

  • fett nice!

  • Beautiful theme and very original composition!

  • AlanKt please remove my videos from your response video , Thanks ...

  • wow amazing

  • Nomm098: it's not even about the instrument, just look at how much this kid puts into what he's doing, and the music being made is amazing.

  • Amazing

  • It was nice until he started going fast

  • That's what she said.

  • LOL!

  • Will someone please tell me what kind of hammered dulcimer this is? While searching around to purchase this instrument, I found several types...

  • Comment removed

  • - @ Nomm098 -

While that might be true, I think it's important to recognise that he's hitting all the strings accurately at the speed he's playing without bumping into the surrounding strings.

It might not be everyone's style of music but it is, nonetheless, very cool.

  • Ohh yeah, I didn't even think of accuracy :P

  • lol thanks for that, I think you take the title of 'Most Supremely Dumb Comment Ever Posted on Youtube'.

  • You haven't read enough YouTube comments. ;)

  • Nomm098: It took a lot of effort for me not to respond with a comment calling you a jackass. I guess I failed.

  • Very impressive. If I had hands that fast I would never leave the house! : )

  • Man you're insane in the membrane!

  • holly shit this dude is good at this !!

(some people have some serious discussions going on here :p

that surly isn't the meaning of the video >> quite amusing though )

  • oh my fuck, you are amazing man, keep groing that dulcimer thing man it rocks

  • looks like a huge flame war goin on here... just enjoy the music peoples...

  • check out "Toni Árpád master of hammered dulcimer". he owns all these bullshits.

  • the first minute of camera has nothing to do with him you idiots. your all fukin stupid. the amazing thing is that he can play that well. and stop relating drums with his talent. theyre completely unrelated! thats like saying having a good trigger finger means you have good penmanship. youre all stupid

  • 1:55 onwards - what is the man in the bottom left hand corner of the screen doing with his head?!

  • spazzing the fuck out.

(he's probably either related to Max or an over enthusiastic fan.)

    Head bangin' yaknow?

  • i want to get one of these for my friend chris he's always playing with drum sticks really fast and I bet iwth practice he'd be good with one of these. too bad they're expensive lol oh well at least i'll tell him about it... amazing videos... adding to my favs

  • drums is nothing close to hammered dulcimer you chuta. go learn something

  • You're the idiot.... wtf is a chuta?

Go learn something huh? Get the fuck off your high horse. You don't know anything about me, but if you did, you'd be all over my nuts like you are with this guy right here. asshole. Drums aren't anything close to a hammered dulcimer? the dulcimer is a pitched percussion instrument, try finding the relation of drums and a hammered dulcimer in that..... a 2 year old could see the relation of a hammered dulcimer and drums. goddamn internet idiots

  • exactly, once a chuta, always a chuta. its polish. you are definately a chuta. yest esh chuta

  • you wouldnt imagine cuz your a dumbass. my mom plays hammered dulcimer, so clearly i dick around with it on a fairly regularly basis. its tuned like a piano, and anyone that knows shit knows that you cant just hit any two keys together and they will sound good. on a piano or a dulcimer. you have to be precise, just like the kid in the video. wrong notes would be noticed you idiot. stop making yourself look studid by getting your info of wikipedia. im talking from experience

  • yeah who ever flimed this is shiiitty

  • the dumbass who shot this vid should learn how to take an effin video...

  • this is goin' on the blog. holy shit man! that is amazing.

  • why is it for the first minute or so the camera man goes and films the audience? what a noob.

  • so why was the camara man lookin at everyone but the star of the show.. like what the fuck and then he started lookin at his face.... i want to hit the shit out of the guy that did it.. but yea.. this shit was tight.. he's be a good drummer. tenor drums preferably.. lol

  • deeeeeamn

  • Free Bird!

  • this dude is SICK. kinda like old soul that is some powerful stuff. WOW

  • nothing about being fast. i can go that fast. but i can never be that accurate. nice work :D

  • that was pretty tight

  • dude you rock

  • incredible . five stars

  • Fuck You.
