@HenryJackification no, you are wrong, these guys are a fantastic band that is highly influenced by the JMC, nothing wrong about it, the JMC where highly influenced by the VU, again nothing wrong with it, just is the way that works.
Yeah, they are getting the aesthetics from them, I just think that these guys are pushing it way harder than the jmc ever did. I love the jmc to death, but this is way more aggressive whereas the jmc were a bit more laconic most of the time.
@HenryJackification well sure, that is evolution, but have you ever listened to cracked by the JMC? It is pretty extreme, and several of the textural arrangements on Psychocandy are really dense and grindy. Also, the world has gotten a lot more tolerant of aggressive music, think about it , when Psychocandy came out Metallica was scary bad devil music, now it is played between innings at baseball games. It has been almost 30 years.
I'd say they're influenced by the Jesus & Mary Chain more than anyone else. They are almost like an extension of them, which is is not a bad thing at all. I love it. Favorite new band
This group is awesome. If anyone doesnt think they are then they have closed minds...in my opinion lol. I love music, its truly the greatest art form. I am a huge Beatles fan, but I listen to anything psychedelic and shoegaze had always had a element of trippyness to it that I crave so much. My Bloody Valentine is so cool but they havent released an album in like 20 years. APTBS is harder edged and just as good. This band would give Justin Bieber nightmares! What more need I say?
I' ll see them in 3 weeks cause of what I read about them, bit I will dicover something ....new ..Waow !I like it and I'm already sure I will love it!!don't know why..;a feeling ...what do you think guys????will it be a nice discover???
@junkiesatwork I certainly hope we are, and I hope your band is too. If not please stop. This band is awful in my opinion, seriously 7 min of pure noise wank that goes no where.....Man they're cool! @junkiesatwork Jimmy? Well, it sounds like your the dick Mr. Junkie, did I insult you? As if insulting me proves anything! I play music, backing up other musicians/artists. I don't believe their drummer sucks, necessarily. I think the drums fit really awesomely with the music. But in this video, the vocals are kind of quiet, something to do with the mic, sucks. :/
@rayolacer I've seen APTBS live twice; I'm a total drum snob and I remember my jaw being pretty much open while watching him bash away. He's one of the hardest-hitting drummers I've ever seen, and reminded me of Helmet's drummer when I saw them in '95. The drums are just not recorded very well in this clip, so they sound kind of flat and dry.
very awesome band, i saw them yesterday for the second time , their sound is really brewtal and the songs are beautiful. yesterday they end the show with this song. sonic times
Can someone please tell me what effect pedals I should use to create more or less the sound of Oliver's guitar when he goes totally mental. It starts about 4:50.
What you accomplished here is a force to behold. The sounds I heard were akin to a 40 ton half stack entering the Earth's atmosphere with the treble on high, fed through a fuzz pedal, dragged through the fallout of an atom bomb, and all fed directly to my cerebral cortex via a rusty wire. I loved it and I love you. Thanks.
Have APTBS got an album out yet, though? I only say that The Horrors are already doing this because they got the album out on the shelves first, like Joy Division before them.
Really though, a lot of elements are shared between shoegaze bands, and it's like saying that all metal bands 'sound the same'.
I was going to see these guys in England this November, but my plane arrives the day after, and then they leave for the rest of the Europe tour. Nevermind, they'll no doubt come to Australia.
APTBS got one(selftitled, collection of previous recordings)out in 2007 and the new one must be coming out around now
about sounding the same. The beauty is in the details, although i doubt any of the new ones (cause it seems to be the new big thing) will ever get better then JaMC, MBV, Ride,....
but i must say, APTBS, like seen and heart here, have some verry interresting sounds to
Horrors to, altough ist more hidden.
in a horrors soundcheck the guitar made a sound that made me cry hehe
In terms of comparisons, putting the musical elements aside for a second, I've gotta say that performance-wise, from what I've seen of these guys, The Horrors have them beaten. They put on a fucking great, energetic gig, which actually turned out to be one of the best gigs I've been to. These guys, in classic shoegaze tradition, aren't much to watch. Maybe if the singer didn't have to play guitar as well, he'd have more of a presence?
The show isnt really the main thing for me. If there noise is beautifull you can just close your eye and fix your brain on what's left of your ears and cry hehe
Nah, personally, I go to a show to see the band first and foremost, not to hear them. If I want to shut my eyes and listen to them, I'll put the album on at home and listen to it in perfect quality. A live performance is about giving the audience more than just music. It's about forming an emotional connection with the audience through interaction and expression, and truly sharing the songs with them, rather than sitting comfortably behind the fourth wall.
peter hook had a beard in early JD days and looked quite a bit like the singer/guitarist for this band but their sound has more to do with JD than their look anyway. love this anyway....
why always arguing. you don't like it, check out something else. you like it, you have time, send a comment. It's indeed influanced by Joy Division, also from Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. But this is something new, 2009 version of all these bands together.
