at :30 hes pacing. a pace is when the same legs on one side is moving at the same time. looks good. i'd love to have my rackin horse steppin that high. id will lots
I love the temperment of the breed ,but i do not like how they are trained with tight nose bands, pulled mouths and short reins. They can't breath and they have to open their mouths while being ride. I do not like the torture the riders put them through.
I have never heard of Icelandic riders using tight nose bands as you describe - on the contrary the Icelandic bridle is so simple only consisting of a nose band and head piece. I live in Denmark and have just been to the Danish world championships in Icelandic riding - there are different bits used and also hackamore which is a headpiece without a bit. Icelandic riders have huge respect for their horse and would do nothing to put them in any discomfort. Perhaps you should have a closer look!
I do not like rough training of horses. Good results can always be achieved with compassion and patience. They do horrid things to Paso Finos in S. America too.
@allexx123 you'll be glad to hear there's a little revolution going on when it comes to that. Icelandics have been trained for very long to raise their heads when they told or pace. My own horse was trained this way, but i'm getting lessons with her to make her tolt with her neck bent down (can't find the english term for it, sorry). The woman teaching me has been to several demonstrations showing the differences in the gaits, and how the "old way" makes them walk wrong, and right with the new!
@allexx123 continuation: She also told me that in Iceland, the traditional trainers have seen the major difference it makes for the horse itself, how it doesn't force its back into a strange stiffness but relaxes more. It may be a slow change, but it shows how it really works better for these lovely horses :)
Also, their current training not really "bad" for the horses, as they get through life without any pain, and they naturally throw their heads back in the wild. ;)
yes, because it is not pretty common knowlegde in the horse world that icelandic horses can carry more weight than the avarege horse in ratio to their weight ?

are you crazy? bad studies then, because they are most definately NOT weak!

Weak? You are mistaken. These tiny 14 hh horses are easily as strong as a 17 hh draft horse. Believe me, your studies are very wrong.
