Lots of people say that music is dead these days. That's not true, there are plenty of great bands out there, you just have to look a little to find them. Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Phish, Joe Bonamassa, John Frusciante, Wilco, System of a down, the orb, pat metheny... It's just the pop music that sucks. I'm not an electronica hater, I like the less in-your-face, more chill stuff, but I can't stand modern electro-pop.

The good music in each genre tends to less publicly popular and have a more cult based following, but even with that said it is still personal preference. I wouldnt mind if someone liked Justin Bieber, but only if they liked his music for themselves rather than liking him because other people do and its popular.
