  • This is art!!

  • He's such an animal!!!

  • damn yo

  • Sergey Bubka = 1 Olympic gold + 6 wolrd championships gold + 35 world records

  • Comment removed

  • Ukraine proud of you!

  • Holy shit, he is fucking flying

  • when he was over the bar the pole was out of site!

  • He made it a point to shave as little off the world record as possible, so he could continue to beat it and make more bonus money for world records. He was also an alternate on the national 4x100m relay team. It has been said he had 10.2 100m speed.

  • i think steve hooker will get the record eventually...

  • @trevorwinton yeah it's either him or renaud lavillenie

  • Wer ist der GRÖSSTE ?

    S E R G E Y

  • I don't if it's true but one of his friends claims he passed 6,25 m during training. Does anyone know of that ?

  • When he was falling to the mat he should of given the other competitors the fingers

  • and the ridiculous thing is that he makes it look easy...

  • He could've definately gone higher if he kept this kind of form towards the end of his career!

  • The metric system has down syndrome... 20 feet SOUNDS high, but six meters just sounds like some high jump heighth

  • NO one can touch his shit!!! People are still having trouble getting to 6 meters he makes 6.14 no god damn prob!!!!

He is truly the greatest, and will be for a long long time....

  • hhoooooooly mooooooly

  • @HawtGlass hell yeah! :D

  • good-LORD he could stand on top of his pole and the cross bar would still be over his head. supper-commy! lol

  • That's defanitly a pacer

  • @baseballmaniac94 if ur talking about his pole then no, its a ucs.

  • how high is that in feet?

  • @Schmak1 try google before you ask

  • And what the fuck is so difficult about writing 20.5 inches?

  • @babicz because it's not measured in feet, it's officially measured in meters (much more accurate). What's so difficult about metric? -6P

  • Haha ask the fucking US government!!! :P

  • @babicz HA, the us military uses metric, i don't know why they don't teach it in schools {shrugs}

  • God damn government corruption...it's all a conspiracy! Haha...

  • Here are the conversions:

    6.14m= 20' 1.75"

    6.15m= 20' 2"

  • one word.......GOD

  • anyone know what brand of pole he used? by the label color it looks like a pacer

  • UCS Spirit

  • @catthtlndsonback ok when i first watched it the label looked blue almost like a 90's pacer

  • yeah its hard to see, i just know from the UCS site that he vaulted on them

  • it does look like a pacer

  • bubka has amazing push off strength. i mean when he's upside down and he pushes himself up with his triceps. its amazing.

  • its a combination of tricep and shoulder strength

  • one of the things that really helps him in his vault is the fact that he keeps his leg straight during the swing phase. He doesn't ball up his legs like renaud or hooker. (altho they're both great) that way he doesnt loose any momentum during the vault

  • he made the greatest sport exploit ever. and that is doubtless.

  • difficili da battere

  • The thing nobody else is doing but his is visible when he separates from his "stick" - he pushes away from it like he jumps more up, that gives him at least 20cm more

  • He could have jumped 6'20 if he just wanted, truly the greatest.

  • bubka would have jumped..maybe 6.30m if he hadnt used the one cm at a time strategy. but i understand his strategy..as it meant more money for him...and more world record attempts which is good for the crowd.

  • @Aeneiden It looks like he doesn't even invert fully on his outdoor WR

  • @tbenjaminkx42 you are partially correct. he could have extended his hips alot more but.....bubka could make these types of mistakes and still get world records because he was so fast and strong and his takeoff was so amazing

  • @Aeneiden I think he could of gone higher. He made that outdoor jump of 6.14m look easy!

  • @Aeneiden ya but he was probably doing many steriods.

  • he pushes over 1.5m off the end of his pole, absolutley superhuman....

  • Idk, man Steve Hooker might beat it? then all i gotta do is beat him

  • tha t will be the longest living WR ever

  • i am going to beat him

  • he is trully a great vaulter!!!! he has so much push off at the top end

  • Bubka takes 10 lefts and has amazing fundamentals. He was Mr. Consistency. When I vaulted I had the toughest time forcing myself to be patient enough to penetrate before swinging my leg to move the momentum upward. He does that amazingly. Watch his push off... it is just the final push in a series of seamless transfers of energy. Energy transfers from Vaulter to Pole to Vaulter. Too many Vaulters don't end with a final push off. I could watch this 1000 times.

  • wow. he keeps that left arm so straight

  • I hope you're not implying that he's pushing with his left arm...because both Bubka and his coach Petrov say not to do that.

  • first thing first no one can achieve 'max' speed from four or five lefts, dont care who you are (unless u just SLOW). olympic sprinters take about 60m to hit top speed. But on the topic of pole vault. If you hit your max speed at the instant of take off then your last step will be your largest and that is bad and you wont be able to jump up.

  • Some of it is getting speed but a lot of it is how you transger than speed into the pole when you plant. If you can't plant and drive the knee effectivly more speed won't do you anything.

  • He runs a 10 step. Do you think 6 step is enough to achieve max or should I go 7 or 8?

  • 6 is no where near enough to reach max speed. But it is probably good enough for a beginner to reach max controllable speed. It all depends on athlete, Duplantis went from 12 lefts and went 19' being only 5'6. The adverage for most high schoolers is 7 lefts

  • the best saying is

it takes a good plant to get high

  • fluke

  • in newyork we do maybe someguys 14ft

    is prettygood

  • wow he makes it look so easy, i have trouble clearing 9 feet and hes getting 20 and hes so graceful too

  • how many feet is that?!

  • 20 feet 2 1/4 inches

  • and 20ft 1.75 outdoor

  • Perfection

  • with a good plant you can get high

  • you need speed to get high

lol, i love that polevault saying

  • crackkkkkkkkkk

  • I <3 Pushy 4L! =) ∞×2

  • fake.

  • idiot

  • d'you fancy shushing?!?!?!

you'd do the same that dude is like imenseeeee!! and the best polevaulter ever to have lived for fecksake.

you jump bloody higher and people might actually care whta you think :@

  • d'you fancy shushing?!?!?!

you'd do the same that dude is like imenseeeee!! and the best polevaulter ever to have lived for fecksake.

  • DUDE, his whole family lived in a single room. so i don't blame him for wanting to earn the family some money. and it was only $50k per record. and he was too good for steriods. if you want to talk about growth hormones, look at Joe Dial

  • Uh, he was a Sgt. in the Army (like most Solviet athletes). His family did not live in a single room, you are hoping for a good story that is not there.

  • Bubka wasn't a Sgt. in the army, his father was

  • Correct.. his father was a Sgt., but so was he. Many countries use government agencies to fund their athletes. In Italy for example, many of their track athletes are paid by the police dept and carry badges! Bubka clearly was not fighting in the Afghan conflict, but his Solviet funding came from his ceremonial military post. Clearly after the collapse of the USSR, he moved beyond that.

  • who told you about the steroids?

  • my coach. he said that dial still jumped like 19'7, clean, but near the end of his career, he was using. i don't know if it's true or not, but that's what i heard. dial's one of my idols, so i'd like to believe that it's not true

  • Your coach lied to you. He never jumped 19' 7" clean; those of us who know that era will all tell you the same thing.

  • wasn't clean?? {shrugs} still, he was what, 5'6??? and jumped 19'7 haha. that's incredible, regardless

  • I never said it was incredible! I've always admired how high Dial jumped given his small stature.

    I'm simply stating a fact.

  • That's a ridiculously long pole. lol

  • this guy is legendary, no one jumps like him

  • he cleared the bar by a mile. should have gone for a tougher record since he sure did have what it would have took.

  • that is record that never been broken

  • steve hooker is pretty damn close

  • Hooker is nowhere near. He han't jumped higher than 6.00m outdoors, that's 14cm off the outdoors world record.

  • Comment removed

  • that world record is from July 31, 1994!!!

  • whats amazing about bubka is that had he not increased the WR by once cm at a time he would have jumped 6.20-6.30. also he had some monster jumps that were well over the bar when he was jumping 6m+ jumps.

  • I've heard it said that the Pole Vaulter is probably the most athletic person on the entire track field, because of what it takes to compete at that event. Is that true?

  • It's true that top-level pole-vaulters need to be extremely fit in many aspects of athleticism. For example it's required to have a speed of a sprinter (almost), a torso with great control of the abdominal external and internal muscles (almost like a gymnast) as well as strong upper extremities.

  • With that said, one must consider that any athlete on the absolute top-level athlete (such as Bubka, Michael Johnson, Haile Gebrselassie, Ulf Timmermann, Javier Sotomayor among others) measure up to extreme requirements of fitness in many aspects. This is what's great about athletics/track and field -- The greater athleticism together with superior technique, the greater results. Not many humans can even compare themselves to the greatest track&field-athletes. /Swedish discusthrower

  • yeah, but decathletes are considered the best athletes. they gotta pole vault and do the other 9 events.

  • abitante5: Well, that's true, the decatchletes are the best all around athlete because they do all the events. But what single event in the decathlon (and all of track) requires the most athleticism? Bingo, back at the pole vault.

  • yep

  • i cant see how these poles dont break, but man thats amazing

  • they do sometimes... and i will tell you it is fucking painful.... it feels somewhat like getting hit with a baseball bat... but with more slap and more shock... plus a free-fall usually into the metal plant box or onto the track from fairly high heights... you can see why it takes a certain amount of craziness to do this sport...

  • Amazing power and great technique!

Will someone ever jump higher than this?...maybe in the far future...

  • bubka later on could have trie a 6.15 meter. look closely his body was about 3-4 inches from the bar.

  • It was 3.5 iches above. Just Amazing.

  • bubka the best ever

  • bubka never used his hands to stabalize the bar in 93', he use's the power of his push so he didnt come down on it. Plus if you look at how much power he puts into that push if he did use his hands he would have knocked the bar off

  • Did he use his hands in '93? Doesnt matter, still 13cm indoors/9cm outdoors better than the next man - pure class.

  • you mean to stabalize the bar? the answer is yes, it was leagal.... but no, he did not have to use his hands on either of those two jumps

  • I meant that he pushes himself, not the bar. Bubka never volzed in these WRs. I meant that the push he has is immense in that he thrusts himself even higher. Great athlete

  • how high is that in feet & inches?

  • I think it is something like 20ft

  • 20ft 2 1/4

  • That's insane! I went 15 feet in high school & almost shit myself. What a monster Bubka was.

  • how did you do that!!1 i want to jump 15ft man how did you do it

  • ...I was lucky & had a great, very technical coach in high school... also my teammate was the record holder for the league at 16' 8"... after seeing him do that, 15 feet didn't seem so daunting...

  • I love the way he uses his hands to force himself back when he has cleared the bar to ensure that he doesn't knock it off. A subtle move, but so important

  • if you look at how he cleared the outdooer WR though, you can see he had very little rotation going over the bar - he barely landed on his back - so while technically it's better to make an arch with your arms and keep your chest away from the bar, he needed to swing his arms a beet more to just get himself over it (in that case anyways)

  • lol... top end on the first jump = WTF!?!?

  • Eeexcellent! Damn...
