One of my favorites of their first album. Neil is such a storyteller and I remember just soaking in the story of this song so vividly. I'll always be a CH and Neil Finn fan.
didn't even know that this song was a single or video...that image of Paul faking his suicide is just too eerie man! oh well,,great fkn song n video!@
I actually worked with the girl in the 80's. This is the story she told me, she did look a bit like the girl in the video but that's not her.
She was a huge Split Enz fan, she saved up to go to NZ on vacation to their home town (Te Awamutu). She went to a bar and Neil was there. They ended up becoming friends, she babysat his kids. We actually went to a concert in OC and she arranged for us to go backstage, i ended up getting there to late but we stayed for the show.
i love this video, Paul in his jammies doing yoga, Nick with his car saying "i love you!", and Neil playing with all the toys! LOL wonderful! thanks Tabstarkin!!
my question was just answered. i never noticed the alphabet "blocks" over their heads that spell out "introducing Liam" while Neil is playing with his toys! LOL
This song was the begining of a long long love affair with Crowded House for me. Back in 85. And nearly 25 years later I still love them to bits and mourn Paul nearly every day xxx
Can't help thinking about comedian Tony Martin when I hear this song: "The only thing truly sacred about Tia Mutu is the big furniture warehouse at the end of the road".
@crowdedhousemaniac SSS is catchy, but I wouldn't necessarily call it their best work. IMO there they have a lot in their song library that are better lyrically and melodically.
@kcdl Whilst it's not listed, I think you'll find this is counted as a "Funny Aneurysm" Moment
"A scene, joke, or offhand line that was originally meant to be funny or light-hearted but which, due to traumatic events in future episodes of a show or in real life, now makes the viewer cringe when it is seen in reruns."
They managed to market music so well that there are basically no talented singer/songwriter groups left in the charts. There's no more sons even. Just cynical exercises in marketing. Oh for the days of real, sincere music like Crowded House! I guess you just gotta search deeper these days...
Love Mean To Me, I really miss this era of Crowded House. I love the video, especially the intro, there's an warmth, humour and innocence that is rare these days!
It's because most people in America have no individual taste in music. They follow the masses of what is popular. I am American by the way. CH should have been big in here. People don't know music.
Your an imbisile. Don't catergorize everyone into the "tasteless class". I enjoy everything from Tool, to classical, to Reagae, to punk, to oldies. Crowded House is great, I remember when they came onto the airwaves in the mid 1980's. I had to say something because your grouping all Americans into the no-tatse arena is f'n stupid. Think about what you want to say before you post it. Try to be less ignorant, it will be good for you.
I am not. I am just saying that MOST people (not all) of Americans. There are the free thinking ones like you and me and many others that love all different kinds of music. I am just saying that it pisses me off that lip-syncers with no talent get so much attention here and real artists like this and many others...well no one has heard of them here because theu won't prostitute themselves to the media. Know the difference between ALL and MOST by the way.
Imbecile, moron, dope. It's all the same. I did not notice the word most (as opposed to all). Excuse me,, my apologies. And actually, now that I have had time to reflect more on your comment, I sort of agree with you. There seems to be a serious lack of decent music being put out anymore. I grew up in the 80's and 90's, with the 80's by far paling in comparison to the superior grunge movement of the early 90's. Long story short, I take back what I said.
No No theres good music out there, people! ..Its just changing colour a tad & twisting into a new form that our ears are yet to recognise! Probably cos its clouded by alot of white noise music ....You know the stuff thats a bit samee! If you get what i mean!
But I believe the really good stuff is yet to evolve! - We just have to keep ears tuned to whats quality & whats white noise & eventually it willshow its self, rising like the cream of the crop!
WHY were CH never bigger in America than they were?!? We loved CH albums in college, but we never saw these videos. Wow. We didn't know what we were missing! The prelude is priceless. XOXOX guys!
Paul didn't kill himself with a gun so that image doesn't bother me. To me it's more strange and foreshadowing that he's an angel on the first album cover.
this is my favourite song but seeing the fake gun bit really makes me upset, do you think he knew what was going to happen? love you paul. rip. best drummer ever, and i loved the prelude, so well, crowded house/ neil finn.
I love them, nobody knows how much, but seeing Paul point that faux gun at his noggin...too much. I always loved this song but seeing this hurts too much. Love you Paul.
god, it's almost frightening how good they are. i have loved crowded house since the first record, but now, twenty years later, i am listening to them as if for the first time... and i am duly stunned. boys, i love you. i love you.
Yeah I bought their first album on Vinyl in 1986 and took it back to my rented teraace hose in Chippendale, Sydney, Australia and played it over and over. I had to call in the neighbour to hear Don't dream its over. It was a seminal moment.
It was the mid 1980's... duh! It didn't suck... it's a forever snippet of Paul and how precious it is to have it now that he's gone. I love this. It's classic CH.
there are points in this video, primarily 3.16, where Neil Finn reminds me of Mal Reynolds from Firefly.

The prelude at the beginning of the song reminds me of theatrics of Split Enz, also the fun fair music is very Split Enz.
