  • there are points in this video, primarily 3.16, where Neil Finn reminds me of Mal Reynolds from Firefly.

  • One of my favorites of their first album. Neil is such a storyteller and I remember just soaking in the story of this song so vividly. I'll always be a CH and Neil Finn fan.

  • I'm 15 and I love crowded house they are awsome

  • God, am i the only 13 year old Crowded House fan? i can't seem to find any fans my own age, and this is my fav song by them!!!

  • DiamondSkyLucy you echo my thoughts when i listen to the finn brothers nowadays i can still here paul there or there abouts .

  • Neil have so much toys! : D

    I want,I want!!! '-'

  • I'm seeing them on sunday :)

  • The baby next to Neil at the beginning of the second verse, is that Elroy?

  • @SuperRondalee nope, it's Liam. Elroy was born in 1989.

  • @SuperRondalee watch 2:28-2:31 , hahaha thats the only way i knew that it was forsure him.

  • didn't even know that this song was a single or video...that image of Paul faking his suicide is just too eerie man! oh well,,great fkn song n video!@

  • Nice. Cool song; excellent video. Never heard this on the radio in 'merka.

  • i was like wtf at all the random shit at the start. thought id been rick rolled

  • prohpetic

  • sorry bout repeating myself. my first post ever on youtube. also apologies for spelling where for were.

  • brilliant but bittersweet. neil asked me what aisle the cornflakes were in when i was 15 and working in the wonderful coles supermarket in prahran.

  • brilliant but bittersweet. Neil asked me where the cornflakes where when i was fifteen and working at coles in prahran. great song, great video!

  • crowded house are the best!

  • Love ya Paul!

  • who is the girl they are talking about at 1:47? was she just a fan?

  • @ramadarose41

I actually worked with the girl in the 80's. This is the story she told me, she did look a bit like the girl in the video but that's not her.

She was a huge Split Enz fan, she saved up to go to NZ on vacation to their home town (Te Awamutu). She went to a bar and Neil was there. They ended up becoming friends, she babysat his kids. We actually went to a concert in OC and she arranged for us to go backstage, i ended up getting there to late but we stayed for the show.

  • i love this video, Paul in his jammies doing yoga, Nick with his car saying "i love you!", and Neil playing with all the toys! LOL wonderful! thanks Tabstarkin!!

  • at 2:28, is that one of Neil's sons? if so, i'm guesing Liam?

  • Comment removed

  • my question was just answered. i never noticed the alphabet "blocks" over their heads that spell out "introducing Liam" while Neil is playing with his toys! LOL

  • This is very much one of the great ones. No one can cover this song. This is very much unique to this group.

    Love the haunted carnival music!

  • A great three man band making the best music.bought the CD back in the day in 87 LOVE IT

  • This song was the begining of a long long love affair with Crowded House for me. Back in 85. And nearly 25 years later I still love them to bits and mourn Paul nearly every day xxx

  • Can't help thinking about comedian Tony Martin when I hear this song: "The only thing truly sacred about Tia Mutu is the big furniture warehouse at the end of the road".

  • the song begins at 1:42 :) ( thelp get through the intro abit faster :) )

  • awesome and rip hester

  • fantastic song and video.rest in peace paul hester., the best crowded house song for sure

  • ONE of the best. Something so strong is most definitely the best

  • @crowdedhousemaniac SSS is catchy, but I wouldn't necessarily call it their best work. IMO there they have a lot in their song library that are better lyrically and melodically.

  • Kind of weird to see him faking sucide with a joke gun...if only he only faked it, poor guy. Such a funny guy too.

  • @kcdl Damn, didn't know he died. Too bad. Just like Stuart Adamson of Big Country. :/

  • @kcdl yeah it made me kindda sad, such an great artist coming to his end like that..

  • @kcdl yea... its like that whole lynyrd skynyrd street survivors cover thing...

  • @kcdl Whilst it's not listed, I think you'll find this is counted as a "Funny Aneurysm" Moment

"A scene, joke, or offhand line that was originally meant to be funny or light-hearted but which, due to traumatic events in future episodes of a show or in real life, now makes the viewer cringe when it is seen in reruns."

  • The prelude at the beginning of the song reminds me of theatrics of Split Enz, also the fun fair music is very Split Enz.

  • She came all the way from America, she had a blind date with destiny, and the sond of Te Awamutu had a truly sacred ring. Brilliant line Neil.

  • I agree completely. One of the best opening lines ever. Hilarious.

  • I love this song... by far my favorite CH song.

  • They managed to market music so well that there are basically no talented singer/songwriter groups left in the charts. There's no more sons even. Just cynical exercises in marketing. Oh for the days of real, sincere music like Crowded House! I guess you just gotta search deeper these days...

  • Love Mean To Me, I really miss this era of Crowded House. I love the video, especially the intro, there's an warmth, humour and innocence that is rare these days!

  • the song was about a sheila that liked em in enz days listen to the song

  • Yeah, based on a true story of Neil being cornered by a fanatical fan.

  • Hey Aaron, do you know what's with Nick Seymour always mouthing "I Love You"?

  • r.I.P. PAUL HESTER such a man such a waste of life

  • These guys were so huge in Canada, I lost count of how many hits they had here, saw them last month here, great show, as always.

  • P.S. But theres only ever gunna be 1 Crowded House!! ;)

And arent we all blessed to have shared in their magic!

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time, but seeing that image of Paul with a gun to his head made me cry. Yikes!

  • Oh by the way it's imbecile, not imbisile.

  • How come that other fella from CH isn't in the vid?

  • He didn't join until the 90's

  • He didn't join until the 90's.

  • It's because most people in America have no individual taste in music. They follow the masses of what is popular. I am American by the way. CH should have been big in here. People don't know music.

  • Your an imbisile. Don't catergorize everyone into the "tasteless class". I enjoy everything from Tool, to classical, to Reagae, to punk, to oldies. Crowded House is great, I remember when they came onto the airwaves in the mid 1980's. I had to say something because your grouping all Americans into the no-tatse arena is f'n stupid. Think about what you want to say before you post it. Try to be less ignorant, it will be good for you.

  • I am not. I am just saying that MOST people (not all) of Americans. There are the free thinking ones like you and me and many others that love all different kinds of music. I am just saying that it pisses me off that lip-syncers with no talent get so much attention here and real artists like this and many others...well no one has heard of them here because theu won't prostitute themselves to the media. Know the difference between ALL and MOST by the way.

  • Imbecile, moron, dope. It's all the same. I did not notice the word most (as opposed to all). Excuse me,, my apologies. And actually, now that I have had time to reflect more on your comment, I sort of agree with you. There seems to be a serious lack of decent music being put out anymore. I grew up in the 80's and 90's, with the 80's by far paling in comparison to the superior grunge movement of the early 90's. Long story short, I take back what I said.

  • No No theres good music out there, people! ..Its just changing colour a tad & twisting into a new form that our ears are yet to recognise! Probably cos its clouded by alot of white noise music ....You know the stuff thats a bit samee! If you get what i mean!

But I believe the really good stuff is yet to evolve! - We just have to keep ears tuned to whats quality & whats white noise & eventually it willshow its self, rising like the cream of the crop!

    Trust & be open. :)

  • WHY were CH never bigger in America than they were?!? We loved CH albums in college, but we never saw these videos. Wow. We didn't know what we were missing! The prelude is priceless. XOXOX guys!

  • best video clip EVER

  • rip hester

  • Oh. I love you, too, Nick!

  • Ha Ha "I love you :)" One of my favourite vid! ;D It's so funny, but the part with Paul and fake gun is a bit sad...

  • Yea, it is. Has a totally new meaning now. :(

  • Paul didn't kill himself with a gun so that image doesn't bother me. To me it's more strange and foreshadowing that he's an angel on the first album cover.

  • this is my favourite song but seeing the fake gun bit really makes me upset, do you think he knew what was going to happen? love you paul. rip. best drummer ever, and i loved the prelude, so well, crowded house/ neil finn.

  • very weird seeing the image of hester with the fake gun. very disurbing for all crowded house lovers.

  • But it was made 19 years before his death, and WAY before his depression era...

  • "And into the dog strech, WOOHOO!"

  • very cool!

  • I love this song! The fake gun to the head part is extreamly sad though.

  • I love them, nobody knows how much, but seeing Paul point that faux gun at his noggin...too much. I always loved this song but seeing this hurts too much. Love you Paul.

  • god, it's almost frightening how good they are. i have loved crowded house since the first record, but now, twenty years later, i am listening to them as if for the first time... and i am duly stunned. boys, i love you. i love you.

  • Yeah I bought their first album on Vinyl in 1986 and took it back to my rented teraace hose in Chippendale, Sydney, Australia and played it over and over. I had to call in the neighbour to hear Don't dream its over. It was a seminal moment.

  • give them a statue :D

  • Aww, little Liam!

  • Great video made up for the prelude. Fun.

  • It was the mid 1980's... duh! It didn't suck... it's a forever snippet of Paul and how precious it is to have it now that he's gone. I love this. It's classic CH.

  • Thank you! Yes RIP Paul! Love it!

  • Come on Neil. Things have never been the same since. You need a band. I will drum! (RIP Paul).
