wow! i was really little but I remember so many details...the Burma pavilion, the monorail. Thanks so much for posting this. you've brought back a little bit from the best times of my childhood. I love youtube!
I was just in Montreal this weekend, saw this from afar :(, I was 1 year old, when my parents took my brother there. Love the whole old movie feel, brings back good memories, before DVD's, CD's Iphones, phone cameras... take me back,,, wayyyyyy back :(
This is great! Thanks for uploading! I was eight years old then! My dad took footage too! I have since transfered it to DVD. I remember it well! It was the first time I had pizza!
That's right! I remember it so well! It WAS basic and greasy! And sooo good! I guess that's why I feel a pizza isn't good unless it's greasy today lol! You must have gotten your's at the same place!
Thank you so much for posting this video! My husband and I visited it before we were married - we stayed with a host family there and ate the best Italian food we can remember at a place named Tony's. Does anyone know if it still exists? The EXPO is one of our life's highlights!!!!
It exists, and it doesn't. While Most of the site has become a nature parc, some elements survive. The American, French, & Quebec pavillions, most artworks, metro station, garbage cans (apparently), and the 'place des nations' survive, surrounded a forest park. It's still an interesting place to visit. it's pretty eerie, when you're in a forest, going down a dirt road, when suddenly, you''re surrounded by these abandoned overgrown concrete bleachers, that still have the expo logo. Like a ruin.
Thank you for posting this. I just visted the Biosphere on Saturday, and was explaining to my 10 year old about how this was considered the greatest of all World's Fair. Now I see why.....
Expo 67 m'a marqué à jamais. Aujourd'hui, quand je me promène sur ces îles, je ne peux faire autrement que de me rappeler cet été où j'ai vécu des jours merveilleux, à explorer le monde et me promener en minirail et dans l'Expo-Epress.
Thanks for posting this. I have such great memories working for the Burmese Pavillion restaurant as a bus boy and spending the full summer there. Will never forget the $17 cost for the season pass.
Excellent video, thanks for posting it! How did you convert the 8mm film to this video format? I have tons of old super 8mm films, but so far heven't been able to find an affordable way of converting to digital.
I remember seeing this when I was 8 years old. I still remember my dad griping about how lame the US pavillion was(the geodesic dome) compared to the Russian's elaborate pavillion. Thanks for sharing this.
Portugal was one of the European countries that did NOT have a pavilion at Expo 67.
These European countries did have a pavilion:
Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the USSR, and Yugoslavia
WOW! Thanks so much for sharing this... I was a wide-eyed 10-year-old boy when I saw this marvelous fair with my parents. Never DREAMED I would be able to "see" it again like this.
40 years ago... not just another time, an entirely different world.
Terrific video. It's the way it should be. People getting together to share the human spirit. You captured it. I was there. Thank you for bringing back some memories.
I can still remember going to this expo, (and I was only 2), but seeing this video is like unlocking images from the deep in my mind.. and I can still recall a terrifying lightning storm from our visit there too.
hahaha The statue (at 6:05) says USSR 1917-1967! Back in the good old days where a camera sounded just like a lawnmower :-) I love Montreal! Vive Montréal! (Brilliant! 5 stars)
What a great film. Thanks for posting it. The film sometimes shows how big the site was. And now whenever I go to the islands where it was held and see so much emptiness, just a few bits remain, it is difficult to picture all this and all the excitement once there. It would be great if more people could post their old movies of events like Expo.
you've brought a tear of joy to this old canadian's eye, best gift I could have ever wanted for the holidays. THANK YOU!! Now if the Habs can just bring home the CUP!!
I was 10 years old and we used to go with my mother and sister.
We used to have a passeport " Expo 67 " and when we enter a Pavillon
they used to stamp us. I was collecting so many of them, we went there so many times.
Those are the best memories of my life in Montreal, I remember visiting the Great Britain Pavillon and we used to hear the Beatles..
Thank you for posting this...

It majorly sucks(!!!) that most of these pavillons got destroyed. What a shame. I would have loved to visit them at this time.

joeyauskanada 3 years ago 2
I'm only guessing, but by the soundtrack it appears that the 8mm was projected and recorded with a digital camera.
BTW thanks for posting this lootlite, it does bring back memories.
rsensorat3 3 years ago 2
You're right. I used a camcorder connected directly to a computer to video the projected film -very fiddly.

Great to see a pedestrian-eye view of
the fair. Most of the time you just
see aerial shots in books and such.
