This makes me so melancholy in a way that I can't explain. I feel this sadness for the singer, because his voice is so haunting and he appears so withdrawn in the video. I really like it, but it has a habit of gripping my emotions.
The year, 1981. I remember hearing it for the first time on the John Peel show. He didn't talk over it, and at the end said the name of the band, the song title, the record label(Factory) and the code number. I promptly ordered it from Andys Records the next day! Now that's what I call a DJ........
it's so hard to find this on you tube search because of "the name(s)" but yes!!! some of my old favorites, thanks so much for your contribution to this wonderful library of youtube.
@lifepod2036 yes, this music is not for today's kids...i am raising my 3 year old listening to all this wonderful stuff. I wonder how he'll turn out :P
@amamuffin I get what you mean, but I'm 19 (going on 20 this year) and I love music like this. While it's true most of today's music is garbage, you have to make an effort to find gold like this. A lot of underground artists today are offering the same creativity and amazingness as bands like this. It's great.
Fortunately, none of the really good stuff is blocked..but music corps should copy and paste your comment and make a huge banner out of it to look at in their corporate board room meetings.

This is great video, very strange. At this time band were signed to Factory (Manchester UK) and this track was produced by the legendary Martin Hannett at Strawberry Studios in Stockpot Manchester.
This is probably the best production Hannett did. Sometimes his work with some Joy Division made tracks like Colony seemed toned down a bit but here it's just right, it's absolutely perfect. The most beautiful song I've ever heard
You should check for Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls album, John Cooper Clarke's early albums, and OMD's Electricity single B-side 'Almost'. In my opinion, those songs-albums are among the best works of Martin Hannett.
Single produced by the producer from the future Martin Hannett rest in peace love this band this sound. Last single was "The Astronaut" which is brilliant.
ON STAGE IN BELGIUM !!!!! A Factory Night (once again) 15/12/2007 - Plan K / La Raffinerie - Bruxelles Section 25 (uk) The Names (b) Crispy Ambulance (uk) Kevin Hewick (uk) Afterparty & DJ sets: 30 years of Factory sound Peter Hook (New Order / Joy Division) Martin Moscrop (A Certain Ratio) Muffin (Club Terror), Gore (Cruise [Ctrl]), X-Pulsiv (Pilgrimage) Expositions: Philippe Carly, Katja Ruge, Factory Benelux Projections: Shadowplayers et documents d'époque

bluevidcam 1 year ago 5
@bluevidcam maybe... alot of the euro bands were unknown then as it was still the cold war and east /west germany.
i was lucky in 82 to be in west germany from australia. i was amazed at the bands i heard in the night clubs there
Spliff and Falco for example bought both ther albums and was really impressed, i worry about how many i NEVER heard m49
ps the cure were kicking around in the late 70s(first album79) so only a shakey maybe.
