  • He's the Godfather of 80sEmo.. just kidding..sorta! Great song though

  • come gatos

  • This makes me so melancholy in a way that I can't explain. I feel this sadness for the singer, because his voice is so haunting and he appears so withdrawn in the video. I really like it, but it has a habit of gripping my emotions.

  • Very talentuous band!!

  • Misterious song, Very evocative lyrics

  • this dude is hilarious. the hell is up with him?

  • Vampire-esque New Wave of the 80s

  • New wave music is awesome!

  • good song but that stare really annoys me

  • great song!

  • Extraordinaire chanson..rien à redire , un chef d'oeuvre de simplicité et de profondeur..

  • This song is just fantastic !!

  • i love the creepiness

  • This song sets off so many memory triggers in my head. Great Stuff

  • Does anyone know the lyrics? Love this song. Thank you for posting!

  • Gotta love the creepy/post punk side of the 80's

  • Love it!

  • Love them. Please blink though

  • farking amazing sounds (we missed a lot of the euro sounds then). its a crying shame musical creativity is almost non-existant these days m49

the question we must ask is music finite?

  • Come to think of it, I think it was 1980!

  • The year, 1981. I remember hearing it for the first time on the John Peel show. He didn't talk over it, and at the end said the name of the band, the song title, the record label(Factory) and the code number. I promptly ordered it from Andys Records the next day! Now that's what I call a DJ........

  • it's so hard to find this on you tube search because of "the name(s)" but yes!!! some of my old favorites, thanks so much for your contribution to this wonderful library of youtube.

  • when he is peaking around the corner of the wall he reminds me of a christmas stop motion cartoon like rudolph.

Oh and this song kicks ass.. fuck you who got shit to say about it. Just saying.

  • what year is this from?

  • maybe this is not for all young people.. go away if you don't like it. Go listen to your Justin Beiber or whatever his name is. this song is gold.

  • @lifepod2036 yes, this music is not for today's kids...i am raising my 3 year old listening to all this wonderful stuff. I wonder how he'll turn out :P

  • @amamuffin I get what you mean, but I'm 19 (going on 20 this year) and I love music like this. While it's true most of today's music is garbage, you have to make an effort to find gold like this. A lot of underground artists today are offering the same creativity and amazingness as bands like this. It's great.

  • Love the eyes, accent and music.

I never heard them before but

    I totally dig the music!

  • the director could ....make not look so gay the main singer.....

  • Does anyone get the feeling that The Cure may have borrowed their style from this band? I'm curious who influenced their sound?

  • Holy shit I love this! I can't believe I've never heard of them!

  • This must be a fucking joke

  • Comment removed

  • Lol this is the most retarted song I've ever heard.

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub You spelled "retarded" wrong, retard. And you need to get your ears checked.

  • Those eyes....

  • @DJMeowMixer

I have to agree with you on that one. They see all!

  • LTM reissued most of their material on CD in 2001. Great label. Still in print I believe.

  • Martin Hannett produced post punk track...

  • Shagaliscious !!!

  • Wow - Sarah Nixey (Black Box Recorder) covers this on her solo album. I had no idea that it was a cover. Great song!

  • Is amazing what one can find on youtube nowadays....

  • @magdamartala i buy ALL my cds now based on stuff i see on Utube :) m49 old stuff and new

thats why they should stop blocking content here. id buy a cd a week now ALL thanks to Utube clips m49

  • Fortunately, none of the really good stuff is blocked..but music corps should copy and paste your comment and make a huge banner out of it to look at in their corporate board room meetings.

  • Lol they look like douchebags!

    Especially the singer!

  • This is coldwave or post punk?

I need more bands like Chameleons , the cure, Xymox, siouxsie and the banshees,Dolores delirio, etc

    Not like PIL,etc

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub like chameleons try the comsat angels

  • @drake128 I've already known them ,but thanks to answer.

    Have you heared xymox?

  • @drake128

    Another band??!

  • Love this song !!!!

  • Classic.

  • I've been looking for this for 26 years...

  • Does anyone get the feeling that The Cure may have borrowed their style from this band? I'm curious who influenced their sound?

  • @bluevidcam maybe... alot of the euro bands were unknown then as it was still the cold war and east /west germany.

i was lucky in 82 to be in west germany from australia. i was amazed at the bands i heard in the night clubs there

Spliff and Falco for example bought both ther albums and was really impressed, i worry about how many i NEVER heard m49

ps the cure were kicking around in the late 70s(first album79) so only a shakey maybe.

  • very nice!

  • I really really like this song.

  • The synth sound Hannett gets is something else. If only more people had had his ears!

  • Wow! What a great song - I have never come across this band or track before. Thanks for posting!

  • Wonderful. Thanks for posting.

  • This tune is meant for a new Bond movie a psychedelic one with Duckula as Bond

and Marilyn Manson as Bond girl. ( Hi hi hi )

  • This has been one of my favorite songs of all time for 25+ years. thanks for posting.

  • production is reminiscent of phil spector i think- wonderful sounding record

  • LOL the video too funny, song is good.

  • Excellant Hannett production.

  • great great great!

  • Awesome.

  • Anyone know the lyrics to this song?

  • Ditto on the eye comment, sort of eerie but I like it.

    new-wave & indie specialists

SAD LOVERS & GIANTS Live in Italy!!

    10th & 12th April

  • PURE Belgium early 80's sound with red zebra, siglo xx, neon judgement etc.. VERY good times

  • this band is amazing

  • You can hear the resemblance.....this sounds a bout joy divison-ish,but the singer sounds like bernard, from new order

    XD

    pretty voice.......and prettier melody....

  • I think the music really sounds like cocteau twins

  • brilliant song from Names. "Calcutta" and "Breathless" are their other two classics.

  • someone was on coke...big googly eyes

  • FAC 29.

  • This is great video, very strange. At this time band were signed to Factory (Manchester UK) and this track was produced by the legendary Martin Hannett at Strawberry Studios in Stockpot Manchester.

  • yeah sounds very joy division. Great song.

  • The song was produced by Joy Division's producer, Martin Hannnett, and imho is one of his finest moments as a producer.

  • This is probably the best production Hannett did. Sometimes his work with some Joy Division made tracks like Colony seemed toned down a bit but here it's just right, it's absolutely perfect. The most beautiful song I've ever heard

  • You should check for Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls album, John Cooper Clarke's early albums, and OMD's Electricity single B-side 'Almost'. In my opinion, those songs-albums are among the best works of Martin Hannett.

  • See you in a couple of weeks at bimfest!

  • Voice sounds a bit like Barney from New Order, sounds a little bit joy divs.

  • awesome!11

  • The Names - "Flesh Wounds"

New song(and video) from the album soon to come :)

  • ALTA BANDA Y ALTO TEMA!

  • real bad

  • Single produced by the producer from the future Martin Hannett rest in peace love this band this sound. Last single was "The Astronaut" which is brilliant.

  • From what album of THE NAMES is?Or its only a single???I have an album from this band where is in it CALCUTTA but this song is not there....

  • its from 3rd single... get the cds from LTM label: lots of stuff in em... enjoy!

  • Great song, but i think bulging the eyes out was unnecesary.

  • so I was not the only one to get scared by those eyes!

  • I love this song... But I didn't get the whole album to download...

  • phuckkk. great tune. brings me back so many memories when i used to dj!! :(

    Great post.

DjModernRoq from Los Angeles, California, USA!

  • Great example of that tense, nervous Benelux sound.

Love Michel's expressions - although he does get a bit carried away :-)

IMO this is streets ahead of the recent live version also available on this site.

  • incredible! i lost this single 18 years ago to a friend, and here it is. twas wirth the waiting to hear this again!

  • On the other side of the single is

'I wish I could speak your language' and is just as good.

  • This is great! Though, sorry, it does, in 2007, look a little like a "Fast Show" style pastiche sketch of a post-rock-gloom band! (sorry chaps!)

  • Wow, I can't believe I've found a Names video.

Thank you cityisburning! Thought it cool that you had crispy's presence, now this one. Life is good.

Post Punk madness with a dreamy-nightmarish feel.

  • i really don't know

  • This is the only video The Names did . It comes from a Factory VHS ;)
