  • nice video...=)

  • This is sooo politically incorrect

  • these are dumb. how can you graduate high school at not know what genes are made of?

  • @interestingstuff2011 Lack of knowledge isn't the same as being "dumb", you FUCKING IDIOT.

  • @interstingstuff2011 ... well theyre in the peoples republic of kalifornistan

  • @interestingstuff2011 LOL, you can't even spell, so shut up.

  • Could you create a few hundred monsters for a new sci-fi movie. We could take all the little mishaps and put them into the ultimate freak show for a great horror movie. Horses and humans, humans and goats, mice and humans, pig-cow-humans, I mean just go fucken wild in the laboratory and make me the most disgusting genetic monsters you are more than capable of producing. There will be millions for you in this and nothing could go wrong, the uglier the monster the bigger the block buster!

  • @bakikatana Genes code for proteins, only about 2% of human genome are genes. Every part of a genome is part of a network. Like people in society they have multiple functions ie. mother, wife, job etc. Changing one part of a genome changes all functions. A change that makes a better wife for example could also make a worse mother who kills her children.

  • basically a gene is an equivalent of command in a computer program, the command that says "this is for rock music(equilizer)"="this is for the eye color"

you change it "this for blues" equivalent of that is if you change "this is for the brown eye color"

  • wow...censorship by too many negative votes!!!

I can see free speech is alive and well in the USA.

there was no abuse, no swearing, no offensive language just a different opinion.

    like wow!!!!!

  • omg these guys know nothing. lol

  • This is an honors class? I find it interesting that they didn't even know what a gene was composed of. Also, the enthusiasm from the students in this "honors" class for something as important as the decoding of the Human Genome, and all the possibilities that the decoding entails, has much to be desired. JMHO,

  • fuck this teacher. he sounds like a fucking asshole. fuck him.

  • ok at the end there was the raight crestion is the sperm not just the half? ok it is split

but i really havent got the x y stuff. just amazing mendel is just a 100 years, an he was a priest not an athé.

  • ok at the end there was the raight crestion is the sperm not just the half? ok it is split

but i really havent got the x y. stuff just amazing mendel is just a 100 years

  • "he's so arrogant!"

It's not arrogant for an engineer to be skeptical at someone who brings a failing car to them claiming that goblins are in there meddling with it's innards. It's not arrogant for a parent to laugh when their child comes screaming to them telling them that there is a little brown monster in the toilet. It's not arrogant, to look at how rapidly we make progress now, to think it possible what we may do in the future.

  • He said synthetic organisms would be created in five years. Craig Venter did it a few months ago. Only a year after this lecture. This is called linear thinking as described by Ray Kurzweil, most people don't take the exponential growth of science and technology into account when making predictions. I think we should all study biotech or invest in biotech so that we can live forever. Talk about vampires...

  • @davoodq of course he s an atheist! he s a very smart scientists and professor. statisticly its very unlikely that he s religious

  • @arsjth atheism is linked to intelligent! look the statistics.. i m not saying all intelligent people are atheists... i m saying they re linked! get your info straight

  • omg.. this fucking exciting!!!! i m 17 years old now and i m seriously considering (because of this video) to study biology!!!

  • these guys are so lucky

  • @arsjth

Do you believe the Earth is a sphere? Do you believe that aeroplanes fly? What you see in the classroom is common throughout universities/colleges. It builds you up to stand up in front of the class being challanged by the professor to ask questions, if you're to feeble to go through that then college is not for you.

  • @arsjth wait i thought these were college kids? are they not? As a Freshman(college) i had no problem arguing with my teachers and when i was wrong it taught me to be better prepared. in high school not so sure.

  • @arsjth

    You like nitpicking I see...

People merely control the plane, they themselves do not fly.

Now this is bsides the point, which is....

It is not arrogant to chuckle when some say that the moon is made of cheese. It is not arrogant to chuckle when your child comes to you screaming that there's a little brown monster in the toilet. To you it may seem arrogant, but it is not. What you think is arrogance, is actually knowledge/experience. There's a reason why science is successful, study it.

  • @arsjth

Nice, not only do you like twisting what I say, you have drifted off the topic. I'm done wasting time with you.

To put it very simple: keep religion in church, and out of the science class. It's a simple request.

  • @TurboDally

"keep religion in church, and out of the science class."

and keep brainwashing and manipulation out of the science class. Its a simple request.

You have brought up religion in the class room when i never raised it. i simply raised the brainwashing manipulative techniques and the bully boy techniques of this teacher.

its simple isnt it. dont brainwash your students with your political views.

  • I like when he says "This mouse was ABSOLUTELY dead" at 07:40

  • excellent work!

  • lets bring back abe lincoln

  • @iamborghini1 same genes doesnt mean same though process or personality

  • i wonder if ethics classes are part of the coursework in this major.

  • I feel bad for womb girl haha

  • if you dont cross the line this type of pedagogy is effective.

  • stupid people have some god damn respect for the speaker!

  • Hey you egomaniacs, stop trying to fix something that isnt broken!

  • thats not fixing thats modifying , missunderstood

  • this man is very annoying, he puts EMPHASIS and RISES his voice EVERY other WORD; he needs to tone it down or else it becomes unbearable

  • Hey Ingrid... how YOU doin?? ;)

  • I'm a teacher and, from a pedagogical point of view (NOT A CIENTIFIC ONE) , it's a shame this professor is so arrogant and that a new PEDAGOGICAL experience is assigned to him.

  • ugh.. this guy is so arrogant. he's not as smart as he thinks he is.

  • are you smarter

    his credentials speak for him

your critical words speak for you

  • lol that's something he would probably say. but I'm not talking about credentials, it's my opinion that he's arrogant.

  • this prof is so condesending, I can't stand the way he talks. glad that's not my class.

  • Genetic engineering would be fine if done for good, but like all things its all about the money, control and power. GMO foods are the scourge of the earth. Most of europe has banned planting GM foods. It has been used for evil purposes. GM crops kill their own seeds. It has been used to sue organic farmers who crops happen to be downfield from GM crops and get pollenized by them. Glow in the dark cats..Clones. Killer viruses and bacteria. It will be used for evil, its inevitable if not already.

  • you might as well be saying that about any scientific discipline

  • honestly the students in this class a dumb

  • @pik4lif don't ever start ~35min because yeah...they sounded a 'lil ...yeah, you said it! hahaha

  • /watch?v=TRWfEBeyVdU&feature=channel_page

  • Wow, great. I'm writing bachelors work on this subject!

  • I have been looking for something like this online for a long time....It's Perfect! Just like out genes will be in the future! lol...

  • Wow, no university like UCLA. I would say best research institution in the World. They spent over 800,000,000 million in 2008 on research, more than any other university in the WORLD. Now with this awesome high tech class. wow!!!

  • thank you so much for posting these prestigious lectures on youtube!
