  • I'd like to think Mother Gothel had some affection towards Repunzel. I mean she did trust her in the castle for 3 days, and went out of her way to get her soup? Was it? I think it was soup. Anyways, I think she loved Repunzel somewhat, even if it was for her hair. :)

  • "*gasp* THE PLAGUE."

    "NO!"

    "YES!"

  • anyone who can hit notes like that IS evil

  • Psssh.. Gothel uses the same guilt trip my mother uses..

  • @Sasorixx22 i think every mother in the world...

  • @Sasorixx22 identical. my mum has used every one of these tactics. and ever some identical phrases. especally. i'm just saying because i love you.

  • THE PLAGUE. XD

  • @PokeDigiSingingFan NO! YES!

  • Even though the reprise is darker and more villain-esque, this version's whimsical and funny theme represents Gothel's fake sweetness to rapunzel.

  • I like this song. It shows the different things (aside from kidnapping and attempted murder) that Mother Gothel does that makes her a villain (maybe not as cruel as Ursula, Maleficent, or Lady Tremaine, but a villain nevertheless). Vanity, subtle insults, guilt trips, and making Rapunzel believe that there is no good in the world and no one will love her shows how Gothel torments her.

  • The part with the rhino isnt in the movie : (

  • the audio is perfect

  • I do believe that Pink Floyds "mother" is Rapunzel's side of the story.

  • Is it sad that I just figured out that she meant vampires when she said men with pointy teeth? I've seen the movie several times. :) Yay for blonde moments!

  • I don't care what anyone else says, Mother Gothel is my favorite character in Tangled. Seriously, Donna Murphy went all out on this character.

  • Man, I love this song!!!

  • did mother call repunzel "PET"?!?!?!?!?!

  • @ComputerSmiles British people say that, it's slang for "love" or "dear"

  • @JermzzzyFTW OcO

  • @ComputerSmiles uh, yeah. i didn't realize that until just now 0.o

  • Mother Gothel was such an amazing villain. Unlike other villains (like Ursula, Maleficent, the dude from Princess&theFrog), she wasn't clearly evil. It even seems like she actually loves and cares for Rapunzel, beyond her ulterior motive for staying young.

    Beat that, Jafar!

  • @Olorin8790 True , they made her more human , really unfortunate that she died . But you have to agree that she was a little selfish wanting Repunzel all for herself , she doesn't realize repunzels dreams and wishes .

  • @Olorin8790 I'm pretty sure the only thing she loves about Rapunzel is her hair :/ Given how every time she says "I love you" she is always staring at her hair... She's manipulating her is all, though I admit staying young forever is not as evil as wanting to rule the world or something like that

  • If i were rapunzel...

    "wait... you didn't say birth!"

Gothel: "um well... *hits head with a frying pan*"

  • "I only bathed.... and changed... and nursed.... and kidnapped you...."

  • God I adore this song. If I'm ever a song, I'm locking my kids in a tower just to be able to sing this to them.

  • I like the uh...her Boston accent that pops out every now and then.

  • im sooo love this song the best move ever!! tooo!!!

  • haha she sounds like a jewish mom

  • I'm a guy and ill admit, this is one of my favorite movies.

  • MY SELF-ESTEEM ....JUST GONE

  • MY SELF-ESTEEM ....JUST GONE

  • would be awesome if they made this into a Broadway show! :D

  • ITUNES ANYONE?!!?!?!?

  • "Ma-a-a-a-AHHHHRG knows best!"

  • @fruitplus321 Best part xD!

  • I would do Rapunzel, I don't even care if she's a computer generated woman, I'd find a way

  • @ShutUpJim ...what

  • "get trampled by a rhino"

james and the giant peach anyone?

  • "gettin kinda chubby"...sounds exactly like my mom LMAO!

  • left for dead!!! xD

  • Comment removed

  • I've always wondered why Gothel didn't just take the plant to her place like the soldiers did when they found the flower.

  • @KaimanaHaru0 I guess the plant wound have died, the soldiers only took it to feed it to the Queen, after all. :)

  • @KaimanaHaru0 Well she has to keep it ALIVE so she can use it again and again.

  • @KaimanaHaru0 well if she did she'd risk of destroying the flower... and she'll die. better to be safe than sorry!

  • SKIP THE DRAMA STICK WITH MOTHER

  • Rhinos, thugs, being mugged and left for dead, the plague, all are not as scary as making Pascal mad. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • I love singing along to this

  • Although Mother Gothel is quite the selfish woman, I couldn't help admiring her singing voice while watching the movie. :)

  • Hehe, I love Mother Gothel! She is by far my favorite female Disney villain!

  • Disney villians have the best singing voices and get the best songs. Seriously.

  • @AkzulSaulie1993 lol so true.

  • I'm sorry but Gothel is the best Disney villain ever! She is so much fun to watch especially in this song! She also gets really evil as the movie goes on... Mother Knows Best (Reprise) was the best song in this movie! She's three dimensional unlike other villains who are just evil. She has more character and more likability in my opinion. She also has the best singing voice ever! <3 Donna Murphy!!!!!

  • @TheDjlstar Gothel literally made this movie for me- it's a brilliant movie but it would be unbearable to watch without her in it.

  • Comment removed

  • best soundtrack ever part I

  • favorite song in the movie!

  • Getting kinda chubby...

WELL YOU WON'T LET ME OUT OF THIS M%^&****((( tower!

  • I think she actually does love her though... Throughout the whole film I felt really sorry for her, till the end. Where she was really horrible D:

  • @Dyv4bkz I felt the same way :)

  • @Dyv4bkz Her life is kind of sad when you break it down- first the flower she'd been using to keep herself beautiful (and then alive) for centuries is stolen and essentially destroyed. And then, even though it's reborn as a little girl, she has to deal with the fact that when Rapunzel dies (unless she has children of her own who carry the power) she will too. Her life is a means to an end :(

  • "I only bathed, and changed, and nursed you..."

I love how she never once claims she gave birth to her. ALL of those things would have been done by a servant anyway if Rapunzel was still a princess.

  • @angelgurl2523 Im sorry but your comment offends me. People don't just "turn" gay, especially not just because their mother says they can't see someone of the opposite gender/ orientation. Please be respectful and just say "mothers dont always know best." that way everyone can relate.

  • @ricard0020 It's a joke, man. Telling a girl that men naturally disgusting, then amending that she's somehow supposed to find a "good one," and yet never really explaining how to find a good one is one of those "roll-your-eyes" things alot of mothers say. Japanese parents are ok with girls crushing on each other in middle school because it beats the American alternative: teen pregnancy happening younger and younger. XD

  • Why didn't this ALL go into the film? I love the bit about "Go on, get trampled by a rhino!"...

  • .....how exactly did you nurse her? you're how old?

  • The part about the plague always makes me laugh...the way she says 'YES!' is amazing.

  • she scares the hell out of me

  • like how disney has come up with a female villian who doesnt have any magical powers of her own, other than cruella of course. but the villians like gothel, frollo, and shan yu are infanently more creepy than fat squid ladies, evil magic mirror weilding queens, and green fire dragon wemon.

  • @SecretAgentKeara I agree completely, except evil magic mirror weilding queens are TERRIFYING. Haunted my childhood nightmares...

  • "Trust me PET" What?! I thought she was her "daughter" >.<

  • @goodman92220 It's just a type of a nickname :|

  • mother knows best........hm.....idk about that!!......EX: a girl likes a boy her mom tells you boys are bad for her!! wait a little longer!! they're disgusting!!

then 6 months later the girl turns gay, tellz her mom, and then her mom kicks her out!" ithought you knew best mummy!!!.....

  • "AND STOP! NO MORE! YOU'LL JUST UPSET ME!"

  • My mom sung this song to me when I told her I was moving out

  • Be careful how you treat your kids. They will choose your nursing home someday.

  • I'm blasting this song on Mother's Day, my over-controlling dominant mom would find it funny :]

  • story of my life...

  • Am I the only one imagining GLaDOS singing this?

  • @EvilLittleHarlequin Kidas fits Mother from Forbidden SIren 2.

  • Mother Gothel looks exactly like my drama teacher O.O

  • THE PLAGUE.

  • This is SO much fun to sing hahaha :D

  • At the risk of no one knowing what the hell I'm talking about....dose this remind anyone else of 'Mother' by Pink Floyd?

  • My mom does the guilt trip thing like Gothel

  • man, I always thought she kinda loved Rapunzel. Guess I got proved wrong by the end of the film, though :(

  • ... This song explains my mom.

  • Gothel is the classic case of control through fear. She makes the world seem terrifying to Rapunzel to make her to afraid to leave her. In other words she uses manipulation to make Rapunzel believe and stay with her. She's the worst kind of villian because she uses mind games on her victims and since fear is in our minds she can twist them to her will.

  • SKIP THE DRAMA, STAY WITH MOMMA~

I love that part so much, lol.

  • My Mum's theme tune >_>

  • did she even love Rapunzel? It's very confusing.

  • @Bedender I'm pretty sure that she did, she could have easily turned repunzel into her slave but instead she chose to treat her as a daughter, so even though she was using Repunzel for selfish reasons, I'm pretty sure she felt some motherly attechment to her.

That was one of things I loved disney did wth Mother gothel she wasn't just your typical black and white villan, hey gave her some character depth.:D

  • @Bedender Well... She loved her hair... xD

  • 0:34

  • "Plus I believe You're getting kinda chubby I'm just saying cause I wuv you!"

  • Love this song!

  • "THE PLAGUE."

    "No!"

    "Yesss!"

  • @ekkm2013xftw Yayy!! My first top comment! :D

    Thanks guys. :DDDD

  • 2:34 "Don't ever ask to leave this tower, again."

  • Mum always pisses me off by singing, "Mother knows best, take it from your mother, it's a scary world out there, take it from your mother, something will go wrong, I swear!" Luckily, I learned; "Rapunzel knows best, Rapunzel's so mature now, Rapunzel knows best, Such a clever grown up miss!" X3
  • Mother does know best, but if she locked me in a tower for 18 years, I'd be like "Fuck this! I'm out!"

  • I LOVE THIS FILM SO MUCH! Makes me smile, laugh and happy, best disney film in a while :D

  • 1:57 take it from ya mumsie xD

  • So Mother Gothel won't let Rapunzel out because she's "getting kinda chubby"? (I know its read a bit between the lines) But seriously Disney, nothing you say or do is gonna make me feel good about myself :P So if I don't have a waist like Ariel's, hips like Megara's and hair like Rapunzel's, I'm doomed to be alone for forever? :P why thank you

  • @21karo12 Actually if I was Rapunzel,I would think to myself:"My own mother says I'm chubby.(insert animation of a hamster running in a wheel inside my head). She is not my real mom!!!"

  • @SnitchSeeker That's not true. My moms friend was telling her over the phone that she is tired of her mother telling her she's fat. My bestfriend use to cut herself because her mom would call her chubby.

There are some fucked up mothers out there =/

  • @bcount1 :0.That thing about the best friend sounds horrible.Maybe because I grew up in a loving home and I can never imagine a mother abusing her child in any way (physically, verbally or psychologically). But I'm slowly starting to realize there are some messed up people out there, who don't deserve to have children in the first place.

  • My mother 100%

  • when i watched this it creeped me out! shes soo scary i think.. but its the kind of song that sounds really nice!

  • Like this comment

if u love this movie and ur listening these songs in 2011!!!!!

  • "Take it from your mumsy"

This song. It is amazingly best and kicks butt because of this line. Oh lord.

  • I reallly love the violin part at 1:19 <3333 SAVE THE DRAMAAAA, STAY WITH MAMMA~

  • Holy crap, can you imagine what it would be like to have Gothel as your mother and Frollo as your father? O_____o

You wouldn't make it out of that household sane.

  • I've been listening to this for 3 hours..

    D:

  • @FusciaFalls Me too. Fantastic study music.

  • You know, technically Rapunzel can just leave because she just said not to ask to leave the castle..

  • I get chills when she says "Don't ever ask to leave this castle again."

  • i love the take it from your mumsy and getting kinda chubby and skip the drama stay with mama

  • Gothel = my mom.....this is repulsive and yet intriguing. i love how they explored the real evil in the worl for a villian instead of your typical 'ill rule the world' villian. it perhaps make the expereince more intense.

  • To me, Gothel is one of the creepiest Disney villains out there. Sure, others may be outwardly evil, "kill everything" kinda villains... But Gothel is subtle. She disguises her evil in a way that's actually very realistic - it rings of "abusive relationship," and it's something you see in the real world every day. "You're fat/stupid/etc. Oh, just kidding, don't get so upset!" and such. In my book, that makes her way creepier than if she had been outwardly cruel.

  • @bloodredeyes666 Dang that's really true!

  • @bloodredeyes666 Yeah, to me Frollo and Gothel are the creepiest villains. I mean you don't see fat octopus ladies walking around everyday. But you do see corrupt priests and abusive mothers. Anyone else thing Frollo and Gothel would be a match made in heaven?

  • @bloodredeyes666 I agree, yet your name seems just as creepy...

  • @bloodredeyes666 yeah.. totally agreed D=

  • Why does the bad guys always get the best songs?

  • When your mum says you're "getting kinda chubby" you know she isn't your real mum :P

  • @RainbowGymShoes thats actually not true, i know a lot of moms who say that, but if you were rapunzel's "mom" and said that, considering that she is a freaking twig, then yeah, you're crazy

  • @RainbowGymShoes ..Then my mom isn't my mom at all >>

  • it's like listening to a 1940s musical movie

  • The plague!

    NO!!

    YESSS!!!!!!

    xD

  • I like this song, it's one of the best disney villain songs I've heard in a while :D

  • Does anyone else imagine the clip that goes with the song when they listen to this?

  • @sonnychoifan101 It's just a freaking pet-name, sheesh, relax...

  • If only the full version was in the film.

  • I just LOVE the little bit of humour that laces this whole song. Stuff like "they'll eat you up aLIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!". Hahahaha!!!

  • This is what my mother is going to sing me when I move out .___.

  • I think Mother Gothel And Judge Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame are really similar. Both saying the world is a cruel place and keeping them inside, just something I noticed and thought was interesting

  • THE PLAUGE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Mageneated *plague

    sorry its my pet peeve

  • lyrics totally describe my momma :/

  • The world is cruel

    The world is wicked

It's I alone whom you can trust in this whole city

    I am your only friend

I who keep you, teach you, feed you, dress you

I who look upon you without fear

How can I protect you, boy, unless you

    Always stay in here

    Away in here......

  • @MiniMixDevil thank you for making me not the only one who thinks of that movie

  • @MiniMixDevil i always thought Rapunzel and Quasimodo would get along .___. XD

  • @MiniMixDevil wow dude that is by far the coolest connection i have ever seen. props X)

  • @MiniMixDevil ???

  • why does 2:20 sound exactly like my aunt O.o

  • Comment removed

  • i adore the men with pointy teeth line :D

  • @MinionOfHades Unless Gothel never mentioned him at all. Becuase Repunzel learned everything from Gothel. In the original story that the Grimm Brothers wrote, Repunzel had never seen a man, until the Prince came. So she might not have even known that there had to be a father to make a child. o_O

  • In-universe, I really do wonder how many times Gothel's given lectures in two counts and with a full orchestral accompaniment.

  • She's what you would get if you smashed Frollo and Scar together

  • Gothel reminds me of my old drama teacher, Miss Smart.

  • Men with pointy teeth - hilarious !

  • "STOP NO MORE, YOU'LL JUST UPSET ME!"

  • >.<

  • I swear this is the most happiest Disney villain song I've ever heard. My mom rented this DVD the night before I left for college. Can you say ultimate guilt trip? lol

  • @hopefaith2 My mom kept playing Fiddler on the Roof before I left for college, I know the feeling lol

  • @hopefaith2 the reprise is the evil part of the song.

  • @hopefaith2 LOLLL omg i can only imagine XD

  • @hopefaith2 honestly, the reprise of this scared the ever livin out of me....after which I immediately said "Best. Villain. Song. EVER"

  • @hopefaith2 I know right? That's why its so awesome. So happy yet it has this underline..... sinister edge to it. And the reprise.... WOW

  • The villain reminds me of huntchback of notre dame...Still enjoyed the movie and since it's been a while since Disney has come out with a movie this good, I'll forgive them but yeah...not terribly original.

  • @SweetChestnut07 Thats because some of Frollo was use for Gothel.

  • That picture confuses me..... HOW DID MAX NOT SINK TH BOAT!

And wheres the rest o fhim! O.O

  • this song is different from the film...

  • @Bluewaterflii There's an extended part in the song that was cut out in the film.
