It's not that Al-Jazeera is less biased, it's just that they provide more detailed information from the source, rather than relying on meaningless narration from reporters who sit safely in the greenzone and have absolutely no clue what they are talking about, as CNN, NBC, and Fox do. Al-Jazeera is a refreshing dose of information, but I disagree when people say that American media is overtly more biased.

I agree. The criticisms of Al-Jazeera by other media are baseless. Some say they are too anti-US, with an Islamic agenda, which is TOTALLY untrue. In fact, people who could be described as anti-US consider Al Jazeera to be an American puppet. But I also find it funny when westerners who WANT it to be anti-US claim it is as a postive, neverminding the fact that the pro-US stance is given 50% coverage as well. the reason so many Westerners see Al Jazeera as inherently anti-US is because all major US media, and even BBC to a somewhat lesser extent, assumes that US intentions are always for the good of others and that US foreign policy should be assumed legitimate before examination. the criticism is then limited to how ineffective a policy is. in these conditions, someone against the policy is criticized and not taken seriously; while someone who agrees is immediately accepted.

I haven't hear American media refer to insurgents in Iraq as "terrorists" other than when specifically referencing foreign fighters, i.e. Al Qaeda. When referencing Mahdi Army they will say "Mahdi Army Militants" or "militants loyal to Radical Cleric Moqtada Al Sadr". They make a distinction because although they act like terrorists, the Sadrists have just a wee bit of legitimacy considering it is their country. American media DOES make the distinction
