I am actually considering buying a P-bass body, J-bass neck, custom finishing them, and salvaging parts from my existing P-bass (not that what's on here now is Fender parts, except the tuning pegs) and creating a one-off. I wonder how much that would cost me :P
Did you paint it with flat paint first? I heard that if you paint it with gloss and clear coat it, it will crack the finish, so i was curious. If i used clear could I sand it down or something before the clear?
@mudshovel508 hi! we used a grey primer, then black paint, then airbrush and in the end severall layers of clear coat that was wet-sanded down before each new layer. hope that helps
thanks man by the way thats a hell of a guitar you got there... im thinking on working on a strat my self got me a seymour duncan jb but i don't really know what to expect from it... i'm thinking lake placid blue for a finish do you think mighty mite does that?
I have a jeff beck in single coil format that I'm selling right now. you could expect a good classic or modern rock sound from it I'd say. it can handle a lot of gain and will maintain clear.
don't know if mighty mite has that but I know that a german company calles rockinger does that. LPB is a great color!!!
@somaAndi thanks for the offer but i'm kinda going for the fat strat look and i personally don't like single coil format humbuckers... by the way what do you suggest for neck and middle pickups? i was thinking of putting an ssl-2 in the neck with the reverse polarity ssl-2 in the middle position
wow good question. it really depends on the kind of stratsound you are looking for. for me the 69' Fender set is the best choice so far. I have the duncan SSLs in my other strat. a good sound too but there is something about the 69's that does it for me. I'd know how if they go along with the JB though..
drop me a line when you finished you guitar! greetz andi
i made my own guitar too, but i dont know how im gonna get plastic on the outside... i have used tome tiki lacquer and im gonna paint it with white lacquer :) but i still dont know what to buy for the plastic outside, please mail me or send message back (good if both) at chrizziboy9@hotmail.com or @csk6767 :)
I like the neck so far! it plays great, I don't think that fender makes better necks (nottalking about custom shop products of course). Mighty Mite is really a good pick I'd say! let me know how you liked yours. Where are you gonna put on to?
I appreciate the effort, but man... it looks awful.

@mudshovel508 I know you weren't asking me, but gun paint isn't like can paint, it all dries flat. You get gloss by using gloss clear coats.
