hey I have a question I have about 2-3 inches of new growth I wanted to cut off the perm and get a texturizer (I plan on just getting this one) will it affect my hair as it continues to grow? And what are the affects of the terturizer?
Gorgeous hair and very interesting video! Do you know the Long Hair community?
I'm the complete opposite (straight hair 1a F iii), but I'm looking things up for a friend with 3c G iii curls.
I have it the other way around, I had to accept that my hair is really straight and won't even hold the sllightest wave. I've always been a bit jealous of african american women's hair and I'm glad that you are promoting natural hair, every hair type has its own beauty!
I have mixed hair. curly hair and heat damaged hair. it drives me crazy. Luckily, the heat damaged hair is on the bottom and the curly hair is more visible. I don't want to do the BC. I will just get my hair trimmed every two month as the new growth comes in. is that a good way to go?
Thank you for making this video straight to the point. Also for answering a bunch of questions, and for your suggestions. So many ppl on here babble about what they ate for breakfast and dumb random things. This was. Helpful.
how long have you been growing your hair? i have "mixed hair" and i had it relaxed and texturized when i had a pixie cut..its about shoulder length naturally now, but i want your length!! How did you do it?
Okay so I got a japanese relaxer in June , so now it's growing out . I know that's what a transition is but I'm stressing out on how it's going to look with my really tight curls and straight hair , I really don't know what to do . I also only wash my hair 2 -3 times a week, i don't use any heat products unless I'm going somewhere important , any help would be highly appreciated!! :) thank you :)
I have a question for you,LOVE your hair by the way..Like you said in another of your videos,I have a major hair crush LOL,your hair so pretty..my question is why is baking soda harmful????Because I'am a transitioner and I am thinking about using a baking soda recipe I found online and it calls for 2 tbsp of baking soda and 1-2 tsp of honey,thanks...
You are such an inspiration to me, REAL TALK. I always thought that females with your hair texture and mine are not able to grow hair that long but you have proved me wrong and I LOVE YOU FOR THAT LOL! Braidouts have been working so well for me and that is how i chose to wear my hair for some time now. I just watch your videos to stare at your hair! lol your advice is very helpful
Thank you for this video! I've learned so much. I've been transitioning since January(2011). And I was one of those trying to wait till my hair is all natural to co-wash. Iol I will utilize all this great advice. Thanks again.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!this helped soooo mch...imma 'big chop' and it helps to knw what u can already start doing berfore the cut THANKS again btw...ur hair is...FLY!!!!!
I've been transitioning for over a year and flat ironing my hair on a regular basis. I think my hair is heat damaged because it hasn't grown that much since I stopped relaxing it. So this summer, I plan to do the big chop and limit the use of flat irons to 3 times a year. Hopefully this will help my hair to start growing again.
When you oil your scalp 2-3 times a week do you wash on that exact day you oil it because doesn't it block you pores? BTW other transitioners and natural What is your agena what do you do on monday tues wed thurs and so on. How many times do you shampoo ever 1-3 months. I don't understand deep condition and condition?
@DreaCarmelKisses It's not two years - it's more like four or five. She started growing out her natural hair four years ago, but chopped off the relaxed ends two years ago.
I love your hair. It seems to have grown very fast in two years. Nice job. Okay I have a question. "Greasing" the scalp is not advised because it clogs the pores. How is oiling the scalp better? What type of oil do you use? How much oil do you use? Thanks
Hi your hair is beautiful. I've been natural now for 6 months now. I did not do the big chop. My question is how often do you wear your hair down? Do you protect your ends and if so how do you do this?
i dont detangle my hair when it is completly wet, becuz of my relaxed ends. becuz i hav mor relaxed ends than new growth. so i do it when damp. is dat gud r bad?
I tried transitioning but I got discouraged dealing with my edges.......... you mentioned you relaxed your edges while transitioning could you explain exactly how you did that please?
hey! I was just wondering what is your weekly diet like?! I assume that the way you eat (along with maintenance) has a lot to do with your hair growth, but it can possibly be hereditary as well!
I love your hair! I am four months into transitioning and I am so looking forward to seeing more of your videos. You are truely an inspiration. I was wondering... how do you feel about sulfate-free shampoos? I totally agree with you about shampoos but do you think it's okay to use the sulfate free ones regularly/weekly?
This video is great. I'm thinking about transitiong or getting a relaxer every 6months but not sure yet.Ok this might be a dumb ques. but I was wondering when it comes to moisturizing natural hair do you just moisturize with a leave in conditioner everyday or everyother day? Or would just a regular daily moisturizer be okay. It seems like allot of people also use shea butter too.
I have a hair crush! Your hair is gorgeous. I'm transitioning for the second time after relapsing for 8 weeks. After viewing your videos I am certain I will not be committing a relaxer infraction again.
I completely understand how many naturals feel about not using shampoo and how often, but i think Gurus should really tell viewers that it's more of a personal choice. Also I think you should be more detailed with what shampoos to use. Non SLS or shampoos without harsh detergents are fine for hair on a weekly or biweekly basis. For ME, I can not go more than 2 weeks without shampooing my hair. I've tried no-poo. It all depends on the products the person uses and their hair's preference.
I am sooooo glad I found your channel. I was planning to go natural but had no idea how to transition SMOOTHLY. I've gone 4 months without relaxer but still straighten it. so nowwww IM STOPPING. THANKYOU!!

@GwendolynRaine yeah, but either way isnt it beautiful that all of these natural women are starting to learn how to mantain and grow their hair with out the chemicals
I like your friend have gone "natural" a few times and I get frustrated because my middle is not the same texture as the edges. The nape is pretty baby curls and the middle is tight dry curls. So I can definitely try this because I definitely want to grow mine out.
Hi, your hair is gorgeous and I'm happy that you're making videos on youtube :) I wanted to know what products you used in your hair while you were transitioning? Also do you plan on making a video showing your hair regimen?
@SparkMyWorld it may not be if you're not comfortable working with two textures. I did though it and I'm getting the last of my relaxed ends clipped next month. You may get frustrated and want to clip it and that's okay. I chopped most of mine last spring. I wore/have been wearing mostly twists, braids, braid outs, and cornrows.
do u have any inspiring words for a person who is a hair product junkie lol i buy so many products that n sum work with my hair while others don't do u know how i can find a happy medium when it comes to finding hair products that'll work with my transitioning period
I came over from fgrogan is station. Look forward to more tutorials. I am 36 weeks post relaxer and thnking about doing big chop because of the difficult time with the 2 textures.
I have been transitioning for 7 months now and I have been wearing braids. My hair is realy thick at the scalp and thinner at the ends. I have been taking my braids out every 2-3 months and washing my hair and applting leave in conditioners. I usually sit under the dryer or blow dry. Is that heat damage? Also do you have any good product reccomendations like oils and leave in conditioners for transitioning hair? thanjs
I have been transitioning for 7 months now and i have thick roots and thin ends. I have been wearing braids for the whole seven months and when i take them out i usually wash and put in leave in conditioner and go under the dryer. Are the dryer and blow drying my hair bad and considered heat damage? Also are there any products that are good for transitioning? thanks
I am newly transitioning and I have some new growth and the ends are still relaxed. I find it difficult to style it so I leave it in braids most of the time. When I do take it out i wash and apply leave in conditioner sand sit under the dryer. by the time i get out my hair is really thick at the bottom and thinish at the ends due to releaxer. My question is, is sitting under the dryer or blow drying my hair damaging it? Also are there any good leave ins that work with transitioning hair? Thanks
what a fascinating idea for transitioners: relaxing edges! I agree with you that it is best to get rid of "relaxer mentality" as soon as possible, but if this keeps a transitioner on the path, then that's wonderful! you just confirmed that there isn't a "right/wrong" way to transition!
glad you have a youtube channel to showcase your beautiful hair :)
Would you say its ok to flat iron once out of the transition? How do you know for certain you are through the transition? I know that natural means different things to different people.
YOU ARE SO RIGHT. When i go to the salon they try to pull out my hair. They comb from the root not the bottom And my stylist is trasitioning since last jnuary and she just straightens it! It looks good but I know she has no curl. she said "just heat train it. it is easier to manage" lol
um lol there was a character limit so I had to pose another one, but uh your video is awesome! some women get on here and talk forever without giving any kind of good tips. You were straight to the point. Thank you so much!!!
Does the co-wash routine create a build up? I read that not shampooing will block the pores, preventing new hair growth...then I read that exercise prevents it. Seriously? It's like a cell phone commercial. What do you have to say about this? I commented on your other video and I'm just trying to get my hair to grow so please ADVICE? I notice you said "regularly" in your annotation and I'm not sure if the build up is why you mentioned it.
@BenniJonquil No, your pores will not be blocked if you wash your hair well. It takes more work in the shower but I am still able to get my hair clean. I do shampoo my hair every month to every month and a half. You can use baking soda on your scalp to get it clean on a regular basis. This is sure to get your scalp clean and it is not harsh like shampoo is. I think it is okay to use a sulfate and silicon free shampoo but just not on a regular basis; only use it every few washes.
hey Chime thanks for this video i notice my hair is straight at the ends and curly toward the roots and my last relaxer is 09. I honestly think I should transiton again cause at first i use to go to the salon when i transtion and they blow it out then flat iron. its sucks starting all over again but if thats what im going to do I have to i wish u had post this video when i decided to go natural thank you.
@pintofowl You don't have to start all over if your ends are just straight. You should just clip about a half an inch to an inch every month until the straight pieces are gone. Your ends have heat damage that is why they won't curl anymore. That is why I am sooo against heat. If you feel like your entire head may have been damaged then continue to grow it out until you feel like you have cut all the damaged hair out. So, you don't have to bc if you don't want to. Just clip a little every month:)
Wish I had you when I was transitioning!!! Now I'm natural and have a great routine. I can't wait to see your different hair styles! I followed you on fotki! Welcome to Youtube.
Wish I had you when I was transitioning!!! Now I have a great routine and I can't wait to see your different hair styles! I followed you on fotki! Welcome to Youtube.
your hair is BEAUTIFUL.. hair length aside, it looks really healthy. I'm 13 months post relaxer and the frustrations have begun. Any hairstyle recommendations? Can't wait to see more of your videos :)
It seems odd for u to be totally against heat, yet you were relaxing ur edges. So, would u say heat training/heat damaging ur edges would be equivalent to ur relaxing of ur edges?
@rwill117 If you are using heat on your new growth, you are damaging your natural hair. I used a relaxer on my edges only during my transition and grew it out before I did the big chop so my natural hair was never damamged. I got rid of my relaxed edges before I bc'd, but you can't get rid of heat damage when you have been flat ironing your new growth throughout your transition. All of your natural hair is permanently damaged. Your entire curl patttern and texture will be effected.
@HairCrush Heat does not always cause permanent damage, if used properly, though. I suffered heat damage from flat ironing through my 1yr transition and ended up cutting half of my progress off when I BCed. That made me wish I had just BCed at 6 months. Many of us naturals want a certain look, for example the look u hv in this vid, and it's very difficult to produce on some w/o the use of some form of heat.
@rwill117 I don't think all heat permanently damages hair but when the heat is too hot or used too frequently it will permanently damage it. When someone is trying to transition by flat ironing, they are going to be using it on a regular basis and that will lead to damage. I just want women to stay away from anything that can hurt the new natural hair growing in:) Once you're ALL natural, the occasional blow drying or flat ironing once or twice a year is cool. It should be done in moderation.
Can you use organic shampoo for your hair or will that strip the hair of oils?and can you still straighten your hair if you use products that have heat Protectant
hey, I know that you mentioned Baking Soda, I've never tried it but have you see the 'Structure of hair video part3' from Kimmaytube (she's a YouTuber)?
She has an entire series, that my be helpful to some of your viewers :)
My only issue with transitioning is i look at people like you and it seems as if yall have sooo much growth at a fast rate. i've been transitioning for 9 months and i dont have as much new growth as i think i should. any tips? oh yea i do use shampoo because it seems like co washes dont cleanse my hair well. how do i use the baking soda?
I have been natural for awhile and got heat damage from my sister flat-ironing my hair and will never use heat again and have not used it since. I found a lot of useful tips from this video and I am going to try them. I really like your videos - I wonder what you do for work, because you should be an inspirational speaker. I have loved you hair since your feature on I think curlynikki and I recently saw you on newly natural and you have been my haircrush. Thank-you!
I think it's funny you mentioned the relaxer addiction. I had a friend that won't talk to me to this day because I wouldn't relaxer her every 3 weeks lol.
Cool tips...i'd definitely say try some kind of Aloe vera el or Eco styler gel for edges 1st but like you said ya know whatever way is working for you stick to that :0) also I DESPERATELY want to clip my ends but have no idea how to do it without getting my hair straight..any suggestions? Annnnnd is that the Melania bracelet annnnd watch your wearing? LOL i recognize it from QVC! :0)
great tips if u could give recommendations for all natural conditioners that would b awesome. most products say all natural but there not so any tips on that would b great. thanks in advance.
can you do a video on how you detangle your natural hair? this is the only thing i havent mastered on my 4b hair..im thinking of starting finger combing..idk lol
@sweetestscooby Thanks. My hair is mainly 4A and 4B. Like most people, the hair at the nape of my neck is finer. Mine is around 3c. My hair just appears to be less kinky than it is sometimes like in this vid. I am going to do a video showing how my hair looks when I get out of the shower and when it dries completely because I get that question a lot.
do you have a tumblr?

hey I have a question I have about 2-3 inches of new growth I wanted to cut off the perm and get a texturizer (I plan on just getting this one) will it affect my hair as it continues to grow? And what are the affects of the terturizer?
Thanks so much!
Sakiera423 2 months ago
@Sakiera423 A texturizer is simply a milder version of a perm, so it is suppose to loosen your curls/coils, but not completely straighten your hair.
No it will not affect your future hair growth.

Thanks

Do you think Aloe + Elasta QP Mango Butter + S-Curl will help the edges at week 20 post-relaxer? I'm trying to avoid relaxing edges/kitchen area?

What type of products did you use or do you use on your hair?
jj9286jj 1 year ago
hey chime!
what a fascinating idea for transitioners: relaxing edges!

I know that natural means different things to different people.
yogawaga 1 year ago
YOU ARE SO RIGHT. When i go to the salon they try to pull out my hair. They comb from the root not the bottom And my stylist is trasitioning since last jnuary and she just straightens it! It looks good but I know she has no curl. she said "just heat train it. it is easier to manage" lol

BenniJonquil 1 year ago

I honestly think I should transiton again cause at first i use to go to the salon when i transtion and they blow it out then flat iron. its sucks starting all over again but if thats what im going to do I have to i wish u had post this video when i decided to go natural thank you.
pintofowl 1 year ago
@pintofowl You don't have to start all over if your ends are just straight. You should just clip about a half an inch to an inch every month until the straight pieces are gone. Your ends have heat damage that is why they won't curl anymore. That is why I am sooo against heat. If you feel like your entire head may have been damaged then continue to grow it out until you feel like you have cut all the damaged hair out. So, you don't have to bc if you don't want to. Just clip a little every month:)

It seems odd for u to be totally against heat, yet you were relaxing ur edges. So, would u say heat training/heat damaging ur edges would be equivalent to ur relaxing of ur edges?
rwill117 1 year ago
@rwill117 If you are using heat on your new growth, you are damaging your natural hair. I used a relaxer on my edges only during my transition and grew it out before I did the big chop so my natural hair was never damamged. I got rid of my relaxed edges before I bc'd, but you can't get rid of heat damage when you have been flat ironing your new growth throughout your transition. All of your natural hair is permanently damaged. Your entire curl patttern and texture will be effected.
HairCrush 1 year ago
@HairCrush Heat does not always cause permanent damage, if used properly, though. I suffered heat damage from flat ironing through my 1yr transition and ended up cutting half of my progress off when I BCed. That made me wish I had just BCed at 6 months. Many of us naturals want a certain look, for example the look u hv in this vid, and it's very difficult to produce on some w/o the use of some form of heat.
rwill117 1 year ago
@rwill117 I don't think all heat permanently damages hair but when the heat is too hot or used too frequently it will permanently damage it. When someone is trying to transition by flat ironing, they are going to be using it on a regular basis and that will lead to damage. I just want women to stay away from anything that can hurt the new natural hair growing in:) Once you're ALL natural, the occasional blow drying or flat ironing once or twice a year is cool. It should be done in moderation.

@soepdelsoep Yes, I wore twists as a protective style. I wore twists 70% of the time the year after I big chopped.

Thanks for the tips. They were really helpful. I was wondering what hair type are u? A 4 or a 3?
sweetestscooby 1 year ago
@sweetestscooby Thanks. My hair is mainly 4A and 4B. Like most people, the hair at the nape of my neck is finer. Mine is around 3c. My hair just appears to be less kinky than it is sometimes like in this vid. I am going to do a video showing how my hair looks when I get out of the shower and when it dries completely because I get that question a lot.
